Cal Scolari RHP Oregon

Scolari spent two seasons at San Diego and tacked on considerable weight and muscle in his time there. Draft-eligible in 2025, he went unselected despite overtures in the first five rounds. Scouts were worried they would be unable to sway the second-year hurler away from his commitment to Oregon.

This is as prototypical a starting pitcher prospect as you can find. He boasts well-above average extension from a simple, repeatable, effortless delivery. Scolari throws strikes and has two pitches that can miss bats.

Scolari boasts a fastball that's been up to 96 mph with carry and cutting action. At his best, Scolari can boast fastball shapes few in the sport can. His ability to miss bats with the fastball stands out.

Scolari pairs the fastball with a sweeping slider in the mid-80s with more lateral tilt than depth. It plays nicely off his fastball when he's cutting the heater as mentioned. Scolari struggles to repeat his breaking ball shape, but the hope would be he polishes that part of his craft up in professional baseball. There's a mid-to-upper 80s changeup, though it's largely below-to-fringe average at this stage.

Where he fits in this Draft will largely depend on how much further teams believe he could blossom with professional development.

I'm guessing this is straight up? If so maybe one or 2 hit in this draft. He obviously has arm talent.

College pitcher in 5 is disappointing to me. Despite huge pool, Sox playing it chalk

Likely? Being a draft eligible sophomore creates some leverage though. I can't imagine he breaks the bank.

Yea. Not a bunch of high value preps being snapped up yet. Probably need to ensure they get the guy they like here with Scolari.

Hopefully Bannister starts getting results. So far it's severely underwhelming in my opinion. If they can't develop pitching this rebuild will fail.

People were so pumped about him and nervous about Fuller and it’s been the complete opposite results.

This is a very good explanation. Thanks for posting that. Given that Getz is into pitching and defense alot it seemed a bit weird with all these bats but yes the scarcity issue in trades is a great point that i forgot about (looking back on it, we were very fortunate to get Teel, Braden and Meidroth all in a single trade) and certainly I would never complain about another LH savage in Santarelli.

It's kind of why I'm not/won't be torn up about them not leaning into the high school pitching demographic. It's a fun demographic to me, but it's risky and I don't necessarily trust our development in that area. They've shown some propensity to turn college arms into value so keep on keeping on. Pitching needs to come from somewhere for sure.

We should start highlighting college pitchers that are 6’4 220 as targets

My favorite guy by far so far, other than Roch, is Prosek. I can't wait to see what he can do in the org.
