On one hand we get a veteran whose stats are no better than Fedde currently but has playoff experience, on the other hand we gave up Boston Smith who looks like he could be promising regardless of his position (c or LF) but we also got rid of DominguezYeah that’s where I’m at. Is there a path where we only trade Nolan Jones and like, Sprinkle for Castillo and his full salary?
11 hours ago11 hr Boston Smith = Tatis, Jr.?Dominguez really was pitching well in recent days from outside of the closer's role.At least Castillo should give them innings.

11 hours ago11 hr I wonder if McDougal comes up now. Would be a weird time to remove Fedde from the rotation. He’s won his last 5 starts.

He has legitimate value and we just took on a bad context in return for him.Boston is a catcher in name only, and is now in organization 3, in his first season. Something HAD to be offered besides money, and like others said, up until 2026, Castillo has been pretty damn good. We get rid of 10 mil from Seranthony in 2027 (if there is even a season), so 14 mil net and a 'maybe' catcher, for a guy with Castillo's history sans 2026 is well worth it.

The stuff is still really good and he's had a rough year. But they must think they can turn him around.Seranthony just started to turn it around, but in case he doesn't, we also dump his $10 million owed next year.I do wonder how much money we get back in cash on this.No guarantee Smith pans out or even has a position

It still doesnt make sense to give him up. Castillo is a 33 year old on the decline who is now the highest paid Sox player in history and will take up 25% our payroll. I dont think I would have taken on this contract for 0 prospectsDidn’t know you guys wrote the checks.
11 hours ago11 hr I've got a group of Seattle friends who are all convinced that Castillo is going to be better in Chicago. And they don't care about no stinkin Boston Smith

11 hours ago11 hr Are people seriously comparing Boston Smith to Fernando Tatis Jr? How??? Because he is someone the Sox traded away? When Mead was tearing it up, if WestEddy posted “Don’t worry, Boston Smith is like Fernando Tatis Jr” these same people would have had a field day.
11 hours ago11 hr Just now, fathom said:I’m more annoyed about how it impacts payroll for next year than this year.Exactly. Super deep SP free agent class next year and we just cock blocked ourselves with the corpse of Luis Castillo. I’m very much an optimist but even I can’t find the rationale for this move. Even if you believe Luis can be “fixed” this is a massive overpay in terms of both financial & prospect cost.
