How is castillo worth anything at his full contract. Guys got negative value. Just weird. He's washed

If you took out Boston Smith, maybe the trade would make some sense. I can’t fathom how taking on a worse contract than the one we gave up required us to give up a legitimate prospect. I don’t even

nope, were acting like Castillo blows and will be worse at the the rate

10 years in the MLB and only 2 seasons with an ERA above 4. 25 war career. not sure what world that “blows” in.

Who takes Seranthony's spot in the pen? Fedde to opener role and long reliever? Schultz earned another start today?

Could give extra day rest across the rotation for the rest of the season.

I think theres more coming

I’m more annoyed about how it impacts payroll for next year than this year.

Smith or McDougal

Kinda meh on this trade. On one hand we get a veteran whose stats are no better than Fedde currently but has playoff experience, on the other hand we gave up Boston Smith who looks like he could be promising regardless of his position (c or LF) but we also got rid of Dominguez

Yeah that’s where I’m at. Is there a path where we only trade Nolan Jones and like, Sprinkle for Castillo and his full salary?

Morosi confirming the Sox taking on all his money

Boston Smith = Tatis, Jr.?

Dominguez really was pitching well in recent days from outside of the closer's role.

At least Castillo should give them innings.

Gonna guess a Mets reliever and then a catcher like Stephenson

I wonder if McDougal comes up now. Would be a weird time to remove Fedde from the rotation. He’s won his last 5 starts.

Didn’t give up anything? Boston Smith isn’t a stud, but he’s still a top 15ish org prospect. He has legitimate value and we just took on a bad context in return for him.

Boston is a catcher in name only, and is now in organization 3, in his first season. Something HAD to be offered besides money, and like others said, up until 2026, Castillo has been pretty damn good. We get rid of 10 mil from Seranthony in 2027 (if there is even a season), so 14 mil net and a 'maybe' catcher, for a guy with Castillo's history sans 2026 is well worth it.

Probably not...JR loves his savings.

He’s replacing Schultz

Still have the same # of pitchers, would have to send someone down for that.

I'm whelmed by this deal.

5 ERA this year, 4.57 FIP.

Not crazy about it, but seen a couple mentions there might be more to it. Hope so.

Don't like giving up Smith, but Castillo is controllable and has a good track record, even if he has been on a downward trajectory. The stuff is still really good and he's had a rough year. But they must think they can turn him around.

Seranthony just started to turn it around, but in case he doesn't, we also dump his $10 million owed next year.

I do wonder how much money we get back in cash on this.

No guarantee Smith pans out or even has a position

I havent seen much a mention of him. It still doesnt make sense to give him up. Castillo is a 33 year old on the decline who is now the highest paid Sox player in history and will take up 25% our payroll. I dont think I would have taken on this contract for 0 prospects

Didn’t know you guys wrote the checks.

I've got a group of Seattle friends who are all convinced that Castillo is going to be better in Chicago. And they don't care about no stinkin Boston Smith

People acting like Boston Smith is the next Carlton Fisk.

The problem is luis castillo is the next james shields.

Are people seriously comparing Boston Smith to Fernando Tatis Jr? How??? Because he is someone the Sox traded away?

When Mead was tearing it up, if WestEddy posted “Don’t worry, Boston Smith is like Fernando Tatis Jr” these same people would have had a field day.

Exactly. Super deep SP free agent class next year and we just cock blocked ourselves with the corpse of Luis Castillo. I’m very much an optimist but even I can’t find the rationale for this move. Even if you believe Luis can be “fixed” this is a massive overpay in terms of both financial & prospect cost.

McDougal & Hagen will replace Dominguez & Schweitzer is my guess.
