Looks like Castillo last pitched 7/28 vs the Dodgers gave up 11 Hits 5 Runs over 5 Innings pitched.

I don't understand why Hagan Smith would be brought up in a playoff push for the bullpen until he shows that he will not walk people at such a high rate.

I don't much care about what the Sox gave up - Boston Smith I would've rather used for someone better but its not a huge deal. Getting rid of Dominguez makes Castillo more like 12 mil next year. He was a mistake and I'm glad they got rid of him. Nolan Jones is whatever.

What's alarming is Castillo has been BAD. As I posted earlier, the Baseball Savant pitch values reflect his poor performance so it's not fluky either. He's also leaving a pitcher's paradise and a team that knows how to handle pitchers. Feel like this isn't going to work out too well for us. Sure hope I'm wrong and the Sox can get him back to even a 4 ERA guy.

Didn't Castillo have a top tier changeup? What the hell happened to that? He still has good fastball velocity.

I wonder if this sets us up to include Shultz in a trade for a big fish of the Logan Webb, Mason Miller, or Hunter Goodman mold.

It's honestly crazy that 5 of the past 7 years Fedde has had a FIP over 5.15 and he's still around. The pitching leprechaun has blessed him and it's been beautiful to watch.

1. It's not our money. I don't care if it costs a little bit more - we have so much more revenue this year from being good, Ishbia is writing checks now, and I don't care if Jerry loses money if it doesn't work out

2. Someone else can be fooled into thinking Seranthony has figured it out. He's due way too much money to walk the first batter of every single relief appearance.

This is a low risk move for us. Yes, Boston is a fun prospect to watch but that's the risk of trying to get better now. I like this move up and down.

I must say that I have to respect Dominguez a bit because he seemed to accept his demotion and he worked his way back and seemed to be becoming a valuable member of the bullpen again. Contrast him with that little b**** Kimbrel who didn't want to pitch in the 8th inning....I hated that friggin guy.

If he was a rental, it would be low risk.

Seriously doubt this.

My concern is Castillo is 33 and the Sox are now on the hook for additional years. Maybe it won't matter if Ishbia takes over sooner rather than later.

Castillo is 33 years old and all metrics are going backwards but velocity. Even if he’s somehow “fixed”, this is one of our big SP additions for next year. Getting rid of Dominguez’s $10M contract doesn’t make that worth it. Boston is simply the cherry on top of a perplexing trade. I hope I’m wrong, but this reeks of a GM first time buying and being raked over the coals.

I am not a fan of this move. Nothing do with what the Sox gave up, I just hate the idea of trading for a guy who isn't all that much better than Fedde or Kay, and yet makes way more not only for this year, but next year and possibly 2028. Plus, 33 yr old pitchers rarely get better. Getz better not be done...

This year because of Seattle’s starting pitches riches. In his previous 7 years prior he has always been an innings eater with a sub 4 ERA and the metrics on his fastball have been improving in the last month.

I’ll hold back judgement to see what other moves they make. If they get a legit 1 or 2 and Castillo becomes our 4 or 5 starter depending on where you rank him and Kay with Fedde being your long reliever then I’ll be fine with it
