Castillo to Sox for Dominguez, Boston Smith, Nolan Jones per Passan

Basically Boston Smith for Castillo. The other two do not matter. I liked Boston Smith but unless Castillo's stuff has severely declined, I don't mind this.

This is pretty much where I’ve landed so far.

How is castillo worth anything at his full contract. Guys got negative value. Just weird. He's washed

If you took out Boston Smith, maybe the trade would make some sense. I can’t fathom how taking on a worse contract than the one we gave up required us to give up a legitimate prospect. I don’t even

Choose your fighter!

  • Player A: 33 yrs old | 7.77 K/9 | 2.89 BB/9 | 1.44 HR/9 | 5.06 ERA | 4.82 xERA

  • Player B: 33 yrs old | 6.51 K/9 | 3.17 BB/9 | 1.76 HR/9 | 4.13 ERA | 4.61 xERA

Castillo is basically Fedde that throws harder away from Seattle.

The overreactions both on here and Twitter are insane and I am the king of overreactions here.

The Sox gave up nothing in this trade besides Smith. The vast majority of this fanbase wanted Dominguez gone for awhile now. Castillo isn’t what he once was, but he clearly fills a need here and sending Dominguez’s contact the other way evens out the money a bit.

They still need another starter. But I think the people saying the Sox got fleeced are crazy.

6. The White Sox

They are trying to become the first team ever to make the postseason after three straight 100-loss seasons. Chicago has a dynamic offensive team, but by now it’s obvious the Sox need pitching and experience. I would target a veteran catcher, even after they are taking a flier on Eric Haase. The White Sox’ offense and ABS decision making from behind the plate have been awful.

Ishbia ...fvk that guy. Sick of hearing his name.

Yeah, much better to hear JR for the last 45+ years, minus an aberration. Am I right?

Hasn't Schweitzer been good lately...replacing him with Smith seems odd to me.

Schweitzer is striking out less than 4.5 batters per nine. The results have been good, but they aren’t going to last without a material increase in his K rate.

Seriously doubt this.

My concern is Castillo is 33 and the Sox are now on the hook for additional years. Maybe it won't matter if Ishbia takes over sooner rather than later.

It's my understanding that when there's a new agreement, the White Sox will be significantly under the salary cap floor. Along with many current players getting raises, Castillo $ might be needed as well at least in the short term. Just sayin...

no.

I wonder if this sets us up to include Shultz in a trade for a big fish of the Logan Webb, Mason Miller, or Hunter Goodman mold.

Moving Schultz would be insanely bad.

I'm going to be honest here and say I have no clue who Nolan Jones is.

Because he was drafted by the Braves ( I think ) a few years ago… if I recall correctly.

I do know there was chatter about Castillo being increasingly uncomfortable with his changing role/routine in Seattle as they played around with a 6 man rotation and throwing him out of the pen, so maybe there's a change of scenery benefit from that perspective at least.

And yet he's made it work all season.

It's honestly crazy that 5 of the past 7 years Fedde has had a FIP over 5.15 and he's still around. The pitching leprechaun has blessed him and it's been beautiful to watch.

I wish we could trade for the pitching leprechaun....that sounds like fun.

If he was a rental, it would be low risk.

But again, the "risk" is that Jerry or the org as a whole has to pay him next year too. That's it. We aren't giving up top projected talent.

And he's had a consistent career of being aces with this year being a decided down year. There are countless players that have down year in the middle of a strong career. Hell, we tried to run Konerko out of town at one point.

I would rather take on the risk of this year and next year's contract if it only means money. Yes, I'm assuming Ishbia is making more financial decisions here and it isn't all how Jerry has always worked, but one of these moves has to signal the transition to taking a risk on contracts rather than selling all of our prospects.

He will be the next owner. Yeah fu-k the guy you probably don’t even know.

I think this ends up more like the Freddy Garcia trade than the James Shields.

Sure fucking hope so

Seattle had to be ecstatic as they needed to clear room as they have two elite arms knocking and they figured he'd be the hardest one to move.

100% agree. How the f*** did Seattle have the leverage to demand a prospect in this deal? Like I said earlier, I could see Castillo for Dominguez straight up maybe, but adding any prospect of value is non sensical from any objective valuation standpoint. The Mariners were literally leaking out Hancock & Kirby as being available to help improve their team and then found a sucker for Castillo and got an actual return no less.

Great we had money spend…just mind boggling this is what we decided to blow our load on.

If they are worried about the extra 12.5 million to next year’s extremely low payroll they are screwed anyways if they add a salary floor with their extremely low payroll as it already sits

He has been so consistent his whole career until this year. I wonder why that is

But how many guys would Smith walk per 9 innings in MLB right now?

Probably was the key word there...

Jones was drafted by Cleveland then traded to Colorado where he had a pretty good breakout but then regressed and was traded back to Cleveland where he was not great. He’s roster filler

no.

Look what private equity/Jared Kushner almost did to the World Cup ... not to mention the B10 media rights package!!!
