I believe that Romero is wrong. The Sox DFA'd Romo this past winter because they wanted him off the 40 man. You cannot option in January. He cleared waivers, and was outrighted. He does have 2 options remaining. If/when he is DFA'd next, he will have the option to reject the outright and become a FA (which basically everyone that isn't on a guaranteed MLB contract does).

It is. There was a 40-man crunch before spring training, coinciding with the Hicks/Sandlin trade. Romo and Iriarte were cut to make room.

I really like this Bart trade. Given he’s under control next year, I think you go to camp with a battle for the backup spot but consider Bart the favorite. Honestly, given Quero is only 23 years old, I’d be ok with him opening next year in AAA and trying to regain some form & value. I’m also open to trading Quero, but I think he’s a guy who could improve quite a bit with a focused offseason plan.

That “theory” is reality and you’re right on the money IMO.

Quero has 3 extra base hits in 170 at bats and a worse OPS+ than Romo, are his handful of singles in the past week really making up for the chasm in their defensive abilities? Quero is very possibly the worst catcher in the sport and affects the pitch calling because he can't be trusted to block a slider in the dirt. Until he can prove in AAA that he can do that, I never want to see him again.

Gonna he honest I don’t see a chasm between the two of them. I see two bad catchers and I like Quero better

I also see two bad catchers, but all the metrics say Romo is superior at defense. Quero is ranked 66/71 of qualified catchers in blocks above average per statcast at -6, Romo is 28/71 at zero BAA.

I'll add that if you pay attention Quero gets shaken off probably a dozen plus times a game, I'm pretty sure he has zero clue wtf he's doing back there.

I mean, I don’t expect either of their numbers to be good. When I watch the games I don’t feel confident that either of them know what they are doing to be honest, there is nothing either does that gives me the feeling that one is the better defender than the other. Quero has won a few games with his bat and that’s about all the good things I can say about him. Romo had a mild hot streak when he came up and that’s the best thing I can say about him. Every game I watch Romo seems to burn a challenge in the dumbest way possible. Picking between Romo and Quero to me feels like picking which pile of s%*# smells worse, you are welcome to believing in Romo if you wish.

Romo has to be on about life #5 of his 9 lives in the big leagues.

I have no idea why this is even a discussion, like I get people have to find something to still nitpick when the team is good, but come on. Both Quero and Romo suck really, really bad. Quero is only better because he's still really young and maybe has potential, so the Sox want Quero to play every day and work on stuff in a lower pressure environment to see if he can still be anything. Romo is gone once Teel comes back, and is likely barely going to play because Bart isn't good either but he's light years better than the 4th worst catching tandem in the history of baseball.
