self fulfilling prophesy

Just an astounding team. The sharks started to circle. The fans were starting to accept the fade (not me), and this team just punches right back.

Time to start dreaming of October baseball

An under .500 team holds the 3rd wild card spot. We're kind of at the point where it would need to be an epic Sox collapse + an epic run by 1 or 2 other AL teams.

Ive seen more epic Sox collapses in my life than Id like to remember. Still, I agree its very likely.

Just need STL to hang on for a perfect day of Chicago sports.

This team has fought and responded almost every single time ( some could argue EVERY TIME ) they’ve been on the ropes.

If anyone didn’t expect them to do so here, they were foolish.

Don't jinx it for us!

They've been doing it all year. I don't understand why people think they won't keep getting off the mat.

Only team in long mlb history with a hitter with 20+ hbp in Antonacci and pitcher with 20+ hbp in Kay.

And just like that, your first place Chicago White Sox are 64-58 with a 4.5 game lead in the division.

AL-best 22-13 division record, with a lead in the season series vs. every AL Central opponent.

Also now just one game back of the Red Sox who conveniently aren't an unbeatable menace any more.

Melton came in on a 9 start streak of throwing 5+ innings with 5 hits or fewer, and left with a season low 4.1 IP and career high 9 hits allowed.

Reminds me of them also ending Gavin William's streak of 10+ K's and 1 walk or fewer last week.

Keep taking care of business against the division and they'll be well positioned.

Also everyone falling in love with every hot team just as they start to cool

Another ā€œthis team feels different than all other Sox teamā€ things - that we are a good hr hitting offense that isn’t hr dependent. 4 today, 8 on Thursday with no homers. They are such an interesting group.

And everybody who declared that the White Sox would lose 100 four years in a row can start explaining how they were so colossally wrong. It's an all-you-can-eat crow buffet. I expect at least 2 full plates each.

There will always be ultra negative people based on anything they can find wrong. And there is always something to find wrong in every game and in Sox history. Some just are wired to be meatballs because they hurt deeply inside. Poor babies.

It's very hard for us long time Sox fans to not expect the worst. But this team has shown amazing resiliency so far. Going to be a stressful and exciting last 40 games.

Melton was an obvious regression candidate. I just didn't know when the law of averages would finally hit.

Just when you think they are going to go in a tailspin they turn it around, they are very resilient and don’t let tough losses like Thursday bother them. Might as well get the sweep tomorrow since the Cubs are on deck.

Pretty well positioned to owning all the tiebreakers with division foes just need to finish them off.

Need 1 against Cle with 3 games left

Need 2 against Det with 5 games left (4 at home)

Need 3 against Min with 6 games left

man, I'm looking at the lineup that venable puts out there during the final game of a series that the Sox sweep

holy f***, it's like he's trying to lose on purpose, he intentionally handicaps the lineup almost every time

1) Venable most probably doesn't make the lineups.
2) If a bench player can't do 6 innings and 2-3 PAs against an opposite handed pitcher and not look lost, they don't belong on a major league team.
