Agree to disagree. To me, anything out of the zone high at 101 is high enough. He popped it up. Can’t believe he even got a bat on it, but he popped it up. Sucks that the previous batter moved the runners, because if it’s man on first and second, Sam camps under that and catches it easily.

Yeah the pitch was fine, got weak contact. That ball has to be caught

This loss was on Will. Starting Murphy instead of Davis and gifting 3 runs to the Guardians in the 1st inning.

  • I don’t think anyone is mad at him. Rather he shouldn’t have been put in that position.

If Doyle had not been pinch hit for by Braden, Peters could have been in left instead of Antonacci. The game ends on Rochios's at bat when Peters catches that ball. Doyle had 2 hits already and Braden

If it’s a bullpen game it better be a good one.

Castillo will ensure it's not

And get their best pitcher in All-Star Messick

which should have been a meaningless game

He almost got the 0-1 pitch which was 101 up and out but was just under it. The funny part is Stone called for the next pitch to he face high fastball. Spoiler alert: it was not face high.

I am pretty sure it was 2 off speed to go up 0-2 in the count

Stop saying Castillo is pitching. It’s Kay

Huge game, he decides to start Murphy, who struggled last time he opened vs Cleveland, and spots them 3 runs. The Sox almost won in spite of their manager, he is trash as an in game manager.

I am betting the opener is Getz's idea.

Yep. I read that it was a .060 expected BA on that hit. Ridiculous.

Who was it that was arguing that defensive subs don't make a difference? This is first hand experience that it absolutely does.

Grichuk would have gotten to that cause he wouldn't have taken the wrong route to it. Any experienced outfielder would never take that many steps in on a ball hit like that.

Any normal outfielder makes that play. But when you have a 2B out there, that's what happens. You didn't need a defensive sub to make that out, you just needed ...an actual outfielder.

Venable is a fucking idiot.

Still steaming about this one. Absolutely should have been a win.

James Fegan must be scared to death his new Sun-Times job/career/health insurance are all now on the line due to the incompetence/inexperience of Venable/GEtz.

I'm not sure he was really sitting fastball on that last pitch. He put up a very defensive swing.

Yeah but it's much harder to make contact on an off speed pitch in the dirt than a chest high fastball when a batter is in protection mode, what was the count? 0-2 or 1-2? Gotta try to get him to chase way low and out of the zone. He already crushed a fastball for a walk off last time.

Same stupid idiot who wouldn’t pinch run for a catcher in a tie game, but takes out our best defensive outfielder for a non-upgrade bat when leading late.

They’re starting Kay. 😬🤦🏻‍♂️

2008 Jenks losing the Carlos Gomez game against Twins is the last time

I even specifically went out walking with Gameday on phone instead of watching it live.

This might be the worst loss since one of those 2008 Twins games. The Ramirez-Ruiz homer was bad, but Sox were still in the playoffs

Yup I'm all for a waste pitch on 0-2 to see if you get lucky.

Stone even said throw head high. Didn’t quite seem that high and maybe just need to go up a little more.

That hasn't gone all that well recently...

Especially because Ramirez Adell Bazzana tonight are really hard on lhp

So, will Sam recover from this? Eventually he will, but not anytime soon. He can’t be allowed to think that getting knocked out of first place tomorrow and ultimately missing the playoffs is all his fault.

Now instead of playing with house money tomorrow it's a must win going against their best starter.

I don’t need to see any more two inning saves from Taylor. His command sucked in that inning and they never should have even been in a spot where a pop up to the outfield in the wrong spot would win it for Cleveland.

Which would mean making a defensive sub…which we didn’t have because of hitting for Doyle.

Exactly. They had him 0-2. Whatever pitch was thrown should have been IMPOSSIBLE to get to.

I don’t want to hear, “it was a perfect pitch” or “Rochio got to it somehow.”

When you have an 0-2 could with a BASE OPEN and THREE pitches to burn…. WHATEVER YOI THROW IN THAT SITUATION SHOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE TO HIT.

Jenks was a master of this.

I really think wild card is the most likely option.

Yeah I would have left Braden on the bench until the bottom 9th for defense. Move Peters to LF
