I saw that quote and I wonder why the people giving an employee $500mil don’t make that expectation crystal clear. In most other careers, Vlad is totally right, you get paid based on your level of experience and qualifications and not necessarily your anticipated production. Not so in sports. Maybe Vlad should know better or maybe competent management should relay that directive to their employees.

What's stunning is that they weren't alarmed by the power decline of last year. This was all there for them to see in plain daylight.

One thing with Venable, all year long he didn’t believe in going with the hot hand, he relied too much on analytics and lefty/righty matchups.

Yep, 2 of his 8 starts are where he gave up the majority of his runs (13 ER) with the Guardians that have made his overall numbers look bad with them. But I can’t imagine he would have been worse than Castillo if the Sox had traded for him instead.
