Getz mediocre deadline acquisitions particularly Castillo, should preclude him from winning any front office awards.

He is going to be exec of the year and Will is winning manager. No way they both don’t.

Braves Phillies exactly 50/50

Just don’t feel that overwhelming home field advantage in ATL

White Sox running at 40% for G1 G2

Venable overseeing +18 wins then + 24 wins in two straight years has to be best start by a manager ever right?

Second guessing the managers decisions thru out the season is so easy but big picture,Will has improved this club both years as manager.

They are hired to be fired but this buys will venable several years as Sox manager..maybe more.

Congrats to the whole team!!!

agreed. and nearly ALL of the angst people had about this team is solved in the playoffs, when you have better advanced scouting...players are utilized for the moment (not longevity of the 162 game grind) and more analytical decisions than gut feelings. The Sox DOMINATED the astros both on the field and in the dugout this series. First team in baseball history to have the lead in every inning in a multiple game series just shows what Will can actually do with proper prep.

From The Athletic:

In Venable’s first season with the White Sox, the club lost 102 games, which represented a 19-game improvement from the year before. This season, they again improved their win total by 24. Only two other managers in history — Miller Huggins of the 1925-27 New York Yankees and John McGraw of the 1902-04 New York Giants — have come off full seasons and improved teams by at least 19 wins in back-to-back years.

22 and 19 game improvements for Huggins (though he had been managing for a while already), 36 and 22 for McGraw to start his managerial career.

The '27 Yanks won the series and the Giants won in 1905 (and made the 1904 WS, but it wasn't played), so make of that omen what you will...

Prediction markets need to be fired into the sun.

I have to laugh at all these cut/pasted percentage figures all season long that just give the conventional wisdom of the masses the illusion of hard, objective data. Conventional wisdom is that conventional wisdom is conventional---but put a decimal point in there somewhere

Why block him? He's a troll sometimes sure, but still a Sox die hard like the rest of us.

I think of this forum as a giant dysfunctional family. There are a ton of characters, and there will always be fireworks at Thanksgiving but we all have 1 common love in the Sox.

Put me down for being on Team @ron883 . Great dude who makes this place a lot more fun. I hope he makes the last gamethread of the season for us.

100% agreed, but I’m still going to post this just because the Meidroth/cuck chair meme got too old and far too close to being real with his most recent 3-run jizzy. @ron883’s perverted ass will appreciate it as well…

Will have to disagree on Getz. Just finished reading ESPN piece on playoff teams chances to advance. On the Sox side the main obstacle is pitching, and that Getz did not do the job obtaining a reliable starter at the trade deadline. They also wrote that Castillo signing was a disaster with an 8.62 ERA with the Sox. In summary, they place the blame on Getz if the Sox do not advance. This is my opinion also. I find it hard for Getz to get any award with Castillo albatross around his neck.

But. If the Sox do advance, who does ESPN get to blame ?

All of the major awards are voted on before the playoffs.

Google tells me it's criteria are:

  1. Peer vote by all 30 clubs before the postseason.

  2. Recognition for exceptional executive performance in roster building, player development, and team success.

  3. Emphasis on measurable results (records, titles, playoff runs) and strategic leadership in a competitive MLB environment

The White Sox are pretty much the story of this season. The quick rebuild of the entire organization says a lot more than a bad trade.

2 1/2 years is hardly quick...ENTIRE is also a stretch.

The starting pitching is hardly a finished product.

There's no defined closer.

Colson and Mune aren't guaranteed to be around by the end of next season.

Bonemer and Cholowsky are the only two significant hitting prospects remaining in the system relatively close to impacting the major league roster.

In the next 3-5 years, will the Sox mirror 2020-21 White Sox, Tigers, Mariners, Blue Jays, Royals, Orioles...

Or Brewers Braves Rays Guards Padres???

Erik Neander. His team blew away the competition in the toughest division in baseball with some of the biggest spending teams, while having a low payroll.

Getz should be runner-up. His Castillo trade was awful and the team played poorly after the trade deadline (25-26 record) and lost the division to an 85 win team.

The third place team in the AL East finished with a better record than both the Guardians and White Sox.

And made the second best DDL pitching addition in Peralta...after Mahle to ATL.

Exactly. The Rays had a 34-19 record after the trade deadline and Peralta earned 5 wins.

The only reason that the Sox are “the story of the season” is because they have been so awful historically and recently. That shouldn’t automatically win any awards.

Meanwhile, the Rays are competitive almost every year in the toughest division in baseball with a lower payroll. Consistent success should be applauded with awards, not tanking for 3 years and finally building a WC winner.

The response will be:

limited payroll

high first round picks every other season

competitive balance picks or lack thereof

intl operations at best in a transition period

To me, you need something like a 5/7 run of making the playoffs, or let's say 3/4 or no worse than 3/5.

White Sox have never accomplished that in 126 years.

Sustaining success vs. just making the postseason.

Even one series win already feels like a massive success compared to how bad things were 2-3 seasons ago.
