Meh. 26 of 26 balls hit with that EV and launch angle averaged 420 feet this year. It is pretty wild.

117 BIP between 105-107mph EV and 30-32 LA in the regular season

Pham's 366ft would be the shortest distance of all of them

1 triple, 9 outs (almost all to deep CF), and 107 home runs

Wind clearly played a bigger factor than everyone first thought. A lot of those fly ball today went way shorter than the fielder first thought off the bat.

That makes the Mune homer going 440 even more impressive.

What are the odds that statcast is wrong on the exit velo? We see it get distances wrong sometimes, but if it was somehow 5 or 10 MPH off on the exit velo? Because 96 EV at 31 degrees averages about 365 feet, which is almost exactly how far that ball went today.

Was amazed Martinez actually caught it with how bad he's been this year...wind picked the exact wrong time to turn, but close game forced Venable to stick with Taylor.

It's 5-0, no idea what happens with Newcomb Schultz Davis etc., in there.

Martinez has been pretty good in the outfield on defense this year.

It ended up not really mattering and maybe it affects how much Taylor can pitch on Monday. I expect him to be available in a shorter outing. 40 pitches isn't some crazy workload for him.

Pitch speeds and EVs are pretty precise, I've never seen either be off after the fact. They are raw measurements.

You see distances be wrong sometimes because if Statcast can't fully track the flight path then they fill the gap with a projection based on those raw measurements that make assumptions about the environment that can end up not reflecting the real world (wind, temperature, humidity, etc.).

People are ripping him on reddit but I get it, maybe it had some bad spin but that ball was crushed. Cooler temps didn't help.

All may be true, and still he looks like he’s butthurt focusing on himself more than the team win.

Smith, Hudson, Hicks and Kay were all just openers for Taylor.

The interview must not have included this portion, “we won but that would have given us a blow out and changed how we use our pitchers so it mattered.”

Their offense is nothing special. Cleveland is fucking cooked.

Cleveland offense is worse than the Sox’s. We hit more homers which is important in the post season, and we saw that with Mune today.

MLB might be heading that way. Hell, none of our starters can give us 4 innings.

Then they should not be called starters. They are long relievers.

The pitching model where teams use an Opener for 2 or 3 innings and then bullpen the rest, can work for a few games, even in the playoffs. So Venable has used mid-rotation starters as bulk relievers to bridge the gap and turn the ball over to the higher leverage relievers in late innings. There are some disadvantages such as overworking the bullpen, but there are some advantages like playing match-ups and giving hitters different looks from different pitchers throughout a game. Also, taking a starter out after two times through the order can avoid hitters get dialed in on them

such a great game. Was there in left field — Mune’s homer really took the air out of the crowd and it never returned. The vibes weren’t great in general for the home team. Didn’t help that we just ground them into dust the whole game of course ;)

This is the key point. Every pitcher who went to the mound Saturday for the Guardians had an amazing ERA. They just can’t hit.
