Kobayashi would not have thrown a grand slam to Iguchi.  Kobayashi in fact throws 5 MPH harder than Bobby Jenks, his curve runs in the 60 MPH range, and he has better control.  According to my own calculations, we would sweep them and Matt Franco would be our MVP, with Benny Agbayani a close second.

Jenks has topped out at, what, 102 mph? So this guy from Japan throws at 107 mph? Steinbrenner would kidnap him and bring to NY. Where the hell is Sid Finch when we need him?

It's unfortunate that some of you seem to be lumping this "simulation" into all the other great work BP does. If you read the tone of the preview article BP wrote for the series, you get the feeling that the series is meant to be a mostly tongue-in-cheeck response to Valentine's crazy blather about how his team is better.

Everyone is the sabermetric community admits that is extremely difficult to compare leagues. Nobody over at BP is going, "this is exactly how it would really happen". It's the middle of winter, instead of staring out the window and waiting for spring, they decided to have some fun.

Please don't reject Bill James and sabermetrics just because of this.

BP doesn't do great work, they do the opposite of that.

Japan has had exactly 3 players that I can think of that did/could have made a major impact in the MLB: Ichiro, Matsui, and Sadaharu Oh. Outside of that they aren't that impressive. All you have to do is look at the stats for all of the washed up scrubs or MLB journeyman that go over there and dominate. I can't remember who, but some MLB reject broke/would have broken their homerun record if they would have pitched to him.

I think you are being generous by saying Matsui did have a major impact, but then again I'm assuming that you are saying it in a postive fashion. He certainly had a major impact for the Yanks against the Halos this year.

I think it's generally assumed that Japan is the AAAA of baseball. Some have compared it to AAA+, meaning only slightly better than AAA.

I have to agree with the more conservative estimate that Japan is just slightly above AAA. One reason more Japanese players don't come over is of course because the Japanese have estabilished the service rule and "bidding price" clause which discourages player movement.

Another horrible outing by our starting pitching, but the bullpen and offense comes through. We're still undefeated on the road this postseason. Crede 4 MVP!!

Has anyone ever fouled off NINE consecutive pitches before? I just found that tidbit hilarious:

Serafini's final undoing was a menacing at-bat by Juan Uribe. Uribe took ball one, fouled off the next nine pitches, took ball two, then drilled the 12th offering to the wall in left-center.

God our starting pitching sucks in this simuluation.

Garland last only 1.2 innings and gives up a 5 spot.

Hermanson and his bad back are running out of the pen, while Uncle Cliff is riding the pine.
