QUOTE (whitesoxmanager @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 08:53 PM)
A diehard Whitesox fan and good friend of mine passed away a couple of months ago from Joliet. He was early 40s. He will somehow make this team do incredible things this year. I guarantee it! He lived his last 10 years in pain. The only enjoyment he had was talking about and watching HIS Chicago White Sox. Correction: Ralph Murray's Chicago White Sox! Sucks that we wont be going to the games together anymore... And how couldnt you like this team? So many young talented bustass charismatic guys. GO SOX :gosoxretro:

I'm glad that he got to see 2005. RIP.

Olney's latest has some stuff from scouts the first being why we can't take spring training results too seriously especially this year from an NL scout:

No. 1: The length of spring this year has affected play. It's only been in the last week, since the WBC ended, that you've actually seen the everyday players start to go hard. This has been good for young players trying to make teams, but for the veteran guys, it's not been a good time to get work in. It's the most non-descript spring training I've ever seen."

From an AL scout on the White Sox :

No. 3: I love the way the White Sox play. Does any other organization have as consistent of an attitude from ownership through the general manager, to the manager and field personnel?"

Nice to see about the Sox, though I wish they'd "play" better on the basepaths.

I'd love to be more optimistic, but I'm going to say 83 wins. Big question marks at CF, 2B, and 3B, and I don't see Paulie, Thome, Linebrink, or Contreras being healthy all year. I also see MacDougal and Dotel being wildly-inconsistent. Too bad, because 89 wins would probably lead to a division title.

I predict greg775 and elrockinMT gloat about how foolish the sox were for ''letting'' crede go when he gets his first hit for the twins.

I know the saying is there is no such thing as a sure bet... but...

why dont you predict that the sun will rise tomorrow.

dbaho....i like your standings alot, i think thats a good prediction of what could happen with one exception, and thats the houston astros....i was shocked when i heard on the radio the other day that they won 86 games last year. Thats only 3 fewer than we won! (whcih really tells you how BAD the NL was last year). I think they are likely to regress a bit, but i dont expect them to be 20 games worse

I don't think CLE's second half was a fluke last season. When healthy, they are the best team in the division. I predict Carmona, Hafner and Garko bounce back, Lee remains strong, bullpen holds up and De Rosa rakes, leaving flub fans spittin mad.

CLE 92-70

MIN 89-73

CWS 87-75

KC 79-83

DET 77-85

NL EAST:

Braves

NL CENTRAL:

Cubs

NL WEST:

Giants

NL WC:

Phillies

AL EAST:

Rays

AL WEST:

A's

AL WC:

Red Sox

World Series:

Cubs vs. Red Sox in the highest rated world series in decades, Sox win in 5 (cubs get one step closer, only to f*ck it up again)

I think the Sox will surprise people and finish 1st in a division full of teams with differring weaknesses, except the Sox will be able to overcome their own weaknesses.

Other predictions:

*Ozzie will periodically give Contreras and Colon rest by having Richard/Marquez/Broadway/whoever make spot starts throughout the season.

*Kansas City will not finish 5th place and will shock a lot of people.

Approximate predictions on randon Sox players assuming they got a full season of at-bats or starts:

*Pierzynski: 60 runs, 12 homers, 55 rbi's, 1 stolen base, .274 avg.

*Alexei: 89 runs, 26 homers, 86 rbi's, 21 stolen bases, .287 avg.

*Konerko: 82 runs, 29 homers, 91 rbi's, 1 stolen base, .258 avg.

*Dye: 92 runs, 30 homers, 98 rbi's, 4 stolen bases, .293 avg.

*Fields: 82 runs, 31 homers, 93 rbi's, 11 stolen bases, .259 avg.

*Getz: 80 runs, 10 homers, 69 rbi's, 20 stolen bases, .280 avg.

*Buehrle: 13 wins, 135 k's, 4.20 era, 1.33 whip.

*Danks: 15 wins, 169 k's, 3.42 era, 1.25 whip.

*Linebrink: 2 wins, 2 saves, 51 k's, 3.90 era, 1.10 whip.

*Brian Anderson will fizzle and people will give up on him except those who has the biggest mancrushes on him.

I'm actually liking the Sox chances alot this year. I think it's a solid team and don't understand the naysayers at all. No one in this division got better in the offseason. No one. If anything the Sox changing core dynamics by becoming a younger sleeker team will make them able to stand up to the rest of the midgets and prevail... As the tallest midget.

In a playoff series, I love being able to throw Buehrle, Floyd, Danks.

I think everything is gonna be ok

White Sox 89-73

Twins 84-78

Indians 76- 86

Royals 76-86

Tigers 5-157
