There's always going to be one selection of the American people that thinks any efforts to improve safety is "pussification" of the league. That will probably keep things somewhat balanced. The thing that may really force changes is that the players are realizing pretty quickly that the last generation isn't doing so well, and they've got a negotiation opportunity right now. Their stats are very close. The Steelers have the worst secondary in the NFL without Troy. The difference he makes in games is tremendous. I agree 100%. That defense is so much worse without him, he could be considered for MVP on both sides of the ball. I know spending money on defense should be our first priority but I do want to see one more playmaker on offense. I think Benn can be a good number 2 WR but that is still a year or two away from happening, especially after the knee injury. An offense with with Freeman/Mike Williams/Moss/Winslow would probably make us a top third NFC offense. The fact that Tim Brown and Cris Carter didn't get in on their first try is also BS. They were both top 5 in major receiving categories when they retired. Both were better numbers wise than Michael Irvin, but they didn't win a Super Bowl so they get shafted. They have since been passed by the likes of Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, Isaac Bruce, and Marvin Harrison.
