My only complaint about this deal is that it wasn't done sooner. We go on the road for the entire week. Had this trade been made right after the Cubs series, we get Youk for at least 2 games at home. That would have been a nice attendance boost, even though we drew alright the past two games.

KW tried for Youk weeks ago but he wasn't gonna trade quality and $ was a factor.

So were medicals.

Rongey is loves him some Thornton. Like to a weird degree.

No I don't. I am not sure what they hell you guys are talking about. To compete this year I think the white sox need a better lefty in the pen. I propose they trade for one. At that point you DFA Ohman.

 

 

Also, if john danks remains injured, the white sox need to acquire a proven starter via trade to compete as well.

Why is that so complicated?

Axelrod would go back to the bullpen if both pitchers came back.

Ohman is fine if he's actually used as a lefty specialist. Another reliever wouldn't hurt though if we don't have to give up anything.

Whether or not the move works out, it's the right move to make right now.

It would be nice to have someone with more value than that in his roster spot, especially since robin doesn't seem to want to use him that way.

I'd figure Bruney would be gone first, and then I'm not sure what happens beyond that.

Once again, KW suggests attendance needs to improve to add payroll, and a week later, albiet fairly small, adds payroll. Pardon me while I roll my eyes next time the attendance issue is mentioned. I will give him credit today, he did say when asked about the financial part of this trade, after the proverbial"I don't wan't to talk about it because you will bury me" , "It made sense to us from a player standpoint. It made sense to us from a financial standpoint". I wish that is what he would say everytime.

It's nice that KW was willing to see the writing on the wall with Stewart and not stubbornly force him on Ventura when it was pretty clear that he was struggling in his role and was going to be hard-pressed not to be passed by other starting candidates like Axelrod, Castro, Molina (crosses fingers) and possibly Santiago.

 

Would love to see Beck from GSU lose some of that weight/muscle and get his mid 90's stuff back. Still believe he'll be better than the four guys listed as well as Pedro Hernandez (who could move into a lefty set-up role with another move or two with the major league roster).

 

With Quintana continuing to be one of the most amazing unknown stories in baseball this year, it's pretty amazing we've lost our last 4 or 5 consecutive Peavy/Sale starts and are still in first place.

 

That's without Danks and/or Humber figuring in...

 

The big (perhaps biggest) concern right now would have to be how hard can Sale and Quintana be pushed in August and September. Danks coming back solves one of those two issues, but not both. That would still leave you starting Humber/Axelrod.

i know he hasnt been good this year, but we just added a guy with a .388 career OBP into our lineup for hudson/morel

There's not really that much to dislike about this... I mean no, this isn't 2008 Youkilis, but they didn't really give up much.

It ends up being about a million dollars added for a guy with a bad back.

 

 

If he can leg out a triple (you could see him turning at least into a 2nd gear round 1B on the replay), then maybe he'll be okay.

 

If nothing else, you have Hudson and Escobar behind him still. Not ideal, but it would be pretty amazing for him to come to a new team (and an easier division) and put up less than a 500 OPS.

I don't think the division or his mental state has anything to do with his performance. If he's healthy he's going to find a groove quickly. If his body just isn't strong enough or is too broken down, then he'll continue to be Brent Morel bad as he has been the last couple weeks.

I agree. I don't think extra motivation is going to make him better. I think he's been plenty motivated. Its all about health.

With how many mid-season moves haven't exactly worked out and how many post-2008 moves have gone bust, it's time for a reasonable gamble other than DeAza, Humber, Viciedo, Santos and Quintana to pay dividends.

 

Actually feel pretty good about the new vibe it will bring to the team and around the clubhouse.

 

Always good to have those guys with so much playoff and World Series experience around a team that's essentially mostly comprised of either veterans or 1st/2nd/3rd year players.
