The interesting thing about that number is that you'd assume Boras was absolutely trying to get them into "forfeit the pick" territory, which would have been a fascinating (and terrible) precedent to set.

I don't even think a ruthless guy like Boras would be pushing for them to forfeit a future pick. That is nuts, no team would ever do that. I am frankly shocked we offered that much. My guess is that Montes De Oca indicated he wasn't signable and we needed to get Rodon into the fold and create some goodwill with Boras.

Seems like a win for all parties...

 

Boras got his guy the most money possible, Rodon and his family are set for life and the Sox got a very exciting young player in the mix.

Turn it into gold coins, fill a swimming pool, and swim in it like Scrooge McDuck.

If a club exceeds its SBP in a given Rule 4 Draft, a tax will be assessed and future Rule 4 Draft picks could be forfeited, depending on how much the club exceeded its SBP. (The club’s 1st Round draft pick in the next Rule 4 Draft is forfeited if the club exceeds its SBP by 5-10%, its 1st & 2nd round draft picks in the next Rule 4 Draft are forfeited if the club exceeds its SBP by 10-15%, and the club’s 1st Round picks in the next two Rule 4 Drafts are forfeited if the club exceeds its SBP by more than 15%).

 

So basically they can go over by 4.999999% and not get punished, but anything after that and not happening. No club is going to forfeit a 1st round pick, unless there is a compelling reason.

Well I saw 6.582 from BA, not 6.82. I would be BA's number is correct, because 6.82 puts them into pick-losing territory. Bruce must have mistyped.

It is pretty unfair, but they did nail someone last year for having an "advisor" get a little too involved when he returned to college. I think he got a suspension. And an article I read said the White Sox turned someone in for the same thing a few years ago.

 

If Rodon didn't sign and Boras was significantly involved, I would imagine there would have been some sort of issue. But that means nothing now.
