I would be very pleased with this were the pick, you can have catch but if the bat is really something he can go to the OF or 1B

while the potential is enticing, the sox will need this pick, regardless if it is a pitcher or positional player to step up in a 1 1/2 yrs.

Funkhouser has not pitched like a top 10 guy this year.

for some of these posters, i really don't think it matters.

however, i can see, if the team who draft them are going on that potential. Funkhouser and several more will do ok come draft day.

I would disagree, they would just need this pick to develop. If you’re counting on a draft pick to save your team then your team probably isn't good. Especially if its a high school kid, expecting a HS kid to make ot to the majors in 18 months is ridiculous.

The Sox just need to add value and talent to the farm, that should be the main goal of any draft.

well it is kind of obvious that i was not referring to a hs'er. i was trying to be subtle in my choice of words.

i am looking at the salary # this yr, who will the sox be able to sign, who are getting raises and arb money. so with all this, unexpected and uncounted money being spent, before the season open spring training. they will be needing the young prospects to develop and be on the heals of the starters.

the system is still not there where it can support this type of players movement thru attrition. so the team needs prospects who are good, esp in a weak draft as this upcoming one, to move thru the system to make it to the majors.

so in essence if the choice is between college being decent, and hs'er being a little better, i am thinking the sox will go the college rt. hs'ers may be really good in the lower draft picks, like after the 6 round.

this is my opinion.

The more I read about Funkhouser, I am not a fan.

Funkhouser, has a nice set of tools, pitching wise. but i don't know. maybe, for me a 3 round pick.

i was going to write up some other draft rpts, but i just realized, i already mention most in the 2 nd rpt and the sox don't have a 2 and a 3 round, so why mention anything on the 2 tier prospects that i like.

either way this is going to be an interesting draft. i still wish the sox had a couple more comp picks.

peace

Kiley McDaniel @kileymcd · May 16

Borderline unbelievable amount of scouts here for Arkansas CF Andrew Benintendi's BP. 15-20 crosschecker/director/VPs, many in top 15 picks.

I'd love to see the Sox go after him

Obviously you always take BPA, but if it's close I'd really like to see the Sox take a position player.

I'd go the other way, even with the added risk of injury that pitchers bring. Sox strength is in scouting and developing arms, and keeping them relatively healthy. Why steer away from that?

Totally. And as we have seen, when you have arms, you can deals to get major league hitters. See also Santiago, Hector and Peavy, Jake.
