maybe i should have explained it better, his agent already filed a grievance, so we should wait until a decision is handed down to see how that decision goes, which i am sure should be answered before the new season.

He should have been up opening day 2014. The cub sucked and if Russell was ready this year Bryant was ready day 1 2014. The money saved with this move was given to Heyward in a serious overpay

It's a pretty interesting situation, for sure. Does anyone know how player grievances are usually settled? If found culpable, does the team pay a settlement? Does it factor into the players arbitration earnings? Do they secure some kind of language that promises the issue will be addressed in the next CBA? Inquiring minds want to know.

Oh and the Heyward deal is a substantial underpay and a major coup by the Cubs. He even took less money to sign with them.

No he shouldn't have. The Cubs handled the situation the only logical way to handle it within the Collectively bargained rules. The Cubs now have Bryant for 6 more seasons including the upcoming one. It's a no brainer. You definitely want him locked up for a prime season 6 years from now rather than 9 games to start this year.

Except that he is getting a $20 million signing bonus up front, plus two opt outs, which means he took the offer with the most money up front ($26 AAV over the first three years with bonus included) AND he has the ability to leave early and get another big deal at age 29. He might have not "taken the biggest offer", but he took the best offer.

At the end of the day, he got a 3/$78M deal plus a fat-ass insurance policy in the event his production goes south. Kudos to Theo for coming up with a creative deal and landing his guy, but for the love of God stop selling it as something it's not.

something happen like this last season with harper of wash, but the org made some kind of agreement with his agent and all. i really can't remember what the language of that agreement was.

 

but if the player and his agent wins, i think it will have to do with him not loosing time but gain those few weeks that he missed, meaning they maybe will treat it as he was with the team from the beginning.

 

this is going to get really messy, but if this supersede the cba, a precedent will be made and any thing that the cba governs will be deem useless. now this may in actuality affect the new cba and its teeth with ref to dealing with rules.
