  2. stumbled across this post. I hope you are doing well and got started. Some good points were expressed. I am not a financial pro by any means. As a older dude, here are some points and reiterations: 1) Get started. If you have an option through work (401k etc) that has a match get all of the match. That 2 or 4 percent doesn't sound like a lot but on your contribution that is an immediate 100% return. 2) Eliminate credit card debt. Interest rates are often 25% range which is crazy. Pay them off every month. If you have cc debt cut your spending. No eating out or fast food, trips, etc 3) Get started if this is money for retirement or that you don't need for 5-10 years. At the begining there is a lot of apprehension and thoughts of not knowing enough. Vanguard was mentioned. They are an investor owned low cost broker (good for low cost and fees). Index 500 mentioned which is the 500 largest companies in the market. You are buying a little bit of them which provides some diversification. (diversified spreads risk). If all 500 bust, we have bigger problems lol. A reassuring phrase I learned was "it is time in the market not timing the market". No one can predict the highs and lows to the day/hour but over time you will be a lot better off than doing nothing. Check the link. The person who invested on the worst possible day every year did just fine over time. https://www.schwab.com/learn/story/does-market-timing-work 4). Continue to educate yourself. No one will care about your money more than you. There is nothing wrong with steady consistent returns. People often brag about their investments that did great. Those same people don't tend to tell others when they lost their ass. Mutual funds/ETFs are a great way to get going and be diversified. For most people they are all they will need . If you do not work in the field remember it is unlikely in whatever time you spend on investing that it will make you better than professionals. If you are that great in 15 minutes a day you are in the wrong profession but it doesn't hurt to understand how your money is invested. I have done my own accounts but researched the fund managers and tried to understand the concepts behind what they did. Good luck and hang in there.
  3. Yeah, he can't give him credit. Against his whole brand.
  4. Think the ASB will do these guys real good.
  5. I too am relatively uninformed. Much of what I know about the top guys I read here. I still think the Sox will take Roch and deal with the logjam in the middle infield when the time comes. It's a good problem to have, and if they're serious about contending, they could deal one of the MI guys for a controllable pitcher. HS picks at number one make me nervous. Granted I don't know much about Emerson, but I feel picking him has more bust potential.
  6. Not a well-played game at all, but we'll take the win. The announcers (including Steve Stone doing a national game) were talking about the pitchers being affected by the delay, fake start time, and second delay, but it seemed like the defenders were affected more. Sloppy play, brain farts, etc. But, these are the type of games they need to win. And they did. When I saw Hicks warming up, I was like "oh s%*#." Luckily they kept Newcomb in, and he threw like 8 pitches and shut the door.
  7. Woah. New Keith Law mock. Emerson at the top, but also the first time we are hearing that the front office likes Lackey? I have hope! Says the front office has Roch 3rd on their list. Sharing the top 10 picks. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7424299/2026/07/06/mlb-draft-mock-2026-grady-emerson-vahn-lackey/
  8. They just told you, he is represented by Epitome Sports Management. He is represented by the agency, not specific to someone like Boras
  9. What were the ratings for England at Mexico? That was a big time match.
  10. I vote Roch . I am totally uninformed so will trust Sox scouts whichever direction they go. I hope they load up on pitching after round one.
  11. Today
  12. How about Junior Perez reintroduce himself to the A's, "Remember me?
  13. The week ahead has the hot( 8 wins in last ten) Red Sox and the cool (3-7 in last 10) A's coming to Sox park. Right now Sox will face 4 lefty starters ,one righty, one tba this week. Would be nice if Sox could get their right handed outfielder( Pereira) back. Big week for Grichuk and Acuna. Red Sox are bad at home but 23-21 on road. Meanwhile, guardians go to twins so someone( hopefully guards) is going to lose ground. Finish 1st half strong,Sox!
  14. I would say that the 2026 season will be career changing for Vargas in many ways. He does have a unique family situation with his parents taking him at age 15 and defecting Cuba to USA (Miami). I don't assume he will stay in Chicago in F/A if Miami comes a knocking. I doubt he will find a better group of guys or coaches than the WS.
  15. Martin definitely has this problem.

  17. Weird perspective for a baseball fan to have considering soccer is a much more action-packed sport. Basketball without a shot clock is hockey, also low-scoring but incredibly fast-paced. Soccer and basketball have very little in common. Also kinda weird to neg the kids for having fun playing a game and not being professionals. Also not true, the kids sitting down picking the grass definitely do not blend in.
  18. The video does exist. It was quite telling. Link: https://www.facebook.com/WhiteSox/videos/tim-anderson-named-al-all-star-starter/1989677341228017/
  19. Door Number 1. Most likely. Sox will not need any more LH bats once Murakami comes back. (LH bats: Colson, Murakami, Teel, Antonacci, Braden, Benintendi) Need a RH bat so Perez stays for the time being. There is no evidence that Gonzalez can play second base at the major league level. There is defensive value in a set infield including positioning, range adjustments, covering second and double plays. '69 Cubs: Santo, Kessinger, Beckert and Banks..2005 White Sox: Crede, Uribe,Iguchi Konerko 2006 White Sox: Vargas, Montgomery, Chase and Murakami. All worked together hand and glove. - Need Acuna more than Gonzo for infield defense, speed on the bases, and his slightly improved RH bat. Sure, if Benintendi were to be traded Gonzo could platoon at DH. That's not going to happen now though, so back to Door #1. Edited to add that it may be more likely that Gonzo gets traded than Benintendi (age, Benintendi's existing contract). I guess we will wait to see if there is interest in either one of them in exchange for pitching.
  20. this is horrifying 😬😆
  21. Of course Boston comes in playing their best baseball all year
  22. It shows the resiliency of this clubhouse. A bad team would fold after 2 gut-splitting, heart-wrenching walk-off losses. This team fought back.
  23. I don't know if Venable is a "good" manager, and he has his dumbass moments, but I don't think it can be put into words his contributions to changing the culture of this organization so quickly.
