Different set of circumstances with tax payers up in arms, the country in (pick an adjective that applies) and politicians no longer willing to stick their necks out rightly or wrongly to support billionaire owners, at least in Illinois. Just my opinion but the Bears, like JR (with his desire for a new stadium) if they would make an offer to help in this debt they'd probably get political will to start gravitating to their side. One of two things I think will happen. Politicians will cave or politicians and citizens will tell the Bears to in essence 'kiss their ass' and feel free to move to Indiana, Timbuktu, Sydney, Moscow, Greenland or Mars. - Today

Interesting that you think the state should be able to totally change the original agged upon deal for the stadium. -

As well they should in my opinion until the Bears come up with the money to pay for the first renovation of Soldier Field. To my knowledge they haven't even offered anything to help pay some of the debt down. -
Respect the hell out of MJ for that stance.

We know the politicians are delaying the project for the Bears. -

Yeah, and Cashman canceled all handshake agreements with future international prospects? Including the #1 kid in the 2030 class whom now the Whitesox are in agreement with for $6 million. Very strange. -
And Blake Larson is a little low for me on this list. A left handed starter who was looking really good at instructs before TJ. Landon Hodge should be higher. I'm tired of seeing Ky Bush on these lists too. A 26 year old reliever at best. And he wasn't even looking that good before TJ.

Griffin is a no doubt shortstop. Does anyone else in their Top 10 stay at the position? Maybe Miller, Bonemer, and Rainer. But doubtful. Otherwise, definitely not.

2026 International signings thread

According to my sources, the Mets have committed more money than their 2026 international signing bonus pool allows. The rumor in the industry is that Wandy Asigen will likely not sign on January 15th and that the Mets will try to reduce his bonus. Here is the list of their signings. -
January 13, 1995 - Baseball’s executive council voted to allow replacement players in upcoming spring training and regular season games, given the ongoing labor impasse with the MLBPA. The more prominent individuals who briefly would become White Sox were shortstop Kent Anderson, outfielder Shawn Buchanan, starting pitcher Dennis “Oil Can” Boyd, outfielder Al Chambers, reliever John Davis, catcher Bill Lindsey, catcher Adalberto “Junior” Ortiz and third baseman Pete Rose Jr. This is the decision that would eventually drive aspiring Major Leaguer Michael Jordan from his baseball career as he was told he would have to participate in the replacement games. Jordan said he would never, under any circumstances, be known as a strike-breaker.

The Bears may be asking for conditions which haven't been made public yet to which the politicians are refusing to allow. -
Best .240 hitter I ever saw. Nobody advanced on the catcher with a pitch in the dirt like he did.

I wouldn’t sweat him taking a 1 one year deal. Think they’d be happy to have him back

The Bears are not asking the State of Illinois to build them a stadium. The Bears are going to build and pay for the stadium. They want money for the infrastructure. -

Sure, if you believe those WARs. I’m not paying that kind of money for c. .730 OPS, and what must be elite 2nd base defense (if one believes those WARs). Realistically, I think Meidroth can be a Hoerner level player. I look forward to his 6 WAR.

Gov. JB Pritzker and legislative leaders in Springfield have signaled a willingness to chip in on infrastructure, but they’ve urged the team to identify a mechanism to pay off more than half a billion dollars still owed on Soldier Field’s 2003 renovation as a condition to getting any legislative help. “Building a stadium is, from my perspective, about doing what’s best for the taxpayers,” Pritzker said Tuesday. “This is a private business. We help private businesses all the time in the state, and I want to help if it’s with infrastructure, as we do with other private businesses — that’s absolutely a way we could do that. But as I’ve said, and the Bears have heard this, that we’re not going to build a stadium for the Chicago Bears.” https://chicago.suntimes.com/bears-stadium/2026/01/13/bears-survey-season-ticket-holders-northwest-indiana-stadium-arlington-heights -

Unsure of how true or not this may be, just seems like the Mets need to trade for some $ to have him fit in the class. -
Yep, guys like this aren't the sexy name by any means but teams obviously see value in keeping them rostered. Third team Dean's been apart of this offseason. They just need to be played correctly and not relied on as a starter.

Cubs get their version of Derek Hill. Cubs claimed OF Justin Dean off waivers from the Giants. Dean served as a late-game defensive replacement for the World Series champion Dodgers last postseason before being claimed off waivers by the division-rival Giants in early November. The speedy 29-year-old center fielder makes a ton of sense as a bench outfielder for the Cubs since he’s capable of handling all three spots in a pinch.

If Jerry had to be convinced just to sign Murakami, there is zero chance he will take on more salary just to get a random prospect. A bad salary swap involving Benintendi would be nice, but that’s easier said than done.
