You asked if they ever play on the road. I answered you.

8/30 White Sox @ Twins - Hicquidy vs. Matthews (1 PM)
So far. Division hasn't been won yet though and that doesn't change the fact that long term for the Sox, a franchise that has had a history of pitching going back to their roots can't find five serviceable starters to me is telling. And by long term I don't just mean the last month but also next year, assuming their is a season.

They may as have played the Bananas.

They just came off a road trip to Colorado and the Angels where they won every game last week.

Yet they keep winning series.

Castillo to Sox for Dominguez, Boston Smith, Nolan Jones per Passan
I guess it depends on your definition of 'serviceable' doesn't it? 🙂 Shields 5.31 ERA ranks second only to Jaime Navarro for highest in team history among pitchers allowed to throw at least 400 innings for the club."

Today is why starting pitching gets even more important down the stretch. That the Sox don't have five guys they can rely on to work in the last five weeks says a lot. As far as the hitting, especially since the break, 'the big three' has had their issues overall. Another important series starts Monday, four games in Houston. Would love to see a split.

Also looks like the Sox need to send just a few more scouts to Curacao. Jurdrick Profar ... not so good.

I would be more interested in August, as it seems that's when he really fell off...

https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/shielja02.shtml Total Sox bWAR -0.3 Well Tatis Jr. and Sosa were cheaters anyway so those two trades don't count and Chicago baseball history can just be rewound/rewritten And ofc Hahn's kid Jacob (Rice Univ) is now working as an intern in analytics (baseball ops analyst) for the Cubs of all teams. Looks like it turned into a permanent gig.

He would become the guy that pulls a hammy and never shows up or communicates with the team again

It is an awful comparison. The Sox acquired Vargas because they weren’t vying for a playoff spot, Vargas had multiple years of control remaining, and they had time to try to fix him. Castillo was acquired to improve the rotation right now in a playoff run, as well as improve it for next season, because he’s gone after next season. He doesn’t have much time to figure it out. And thus far, he has been awful through 5 starts with 1 good start. There is no guarantee that the Sox are in this same position next season, so Castillo’s starts right now are even more vital to the team since next year is not guaranteed. It isn’t a good comparison of trades at all.

no way I even consider extending him until next year, not unless he takes a massive discount which I doubt his agent would do that nor should he

Ladies and gentlemen, this has to be the first defense of the Shields trade in history with the benefit of hindsight. Good lord…

Colson hasn't been so great in the L7/15/30 at all, minus the occasional HR: Mune hasn't been any better:

Watching the Astros Mets game and I have a question...what the hell does it mean when they get on base and the player sticks out his hand and with the other wiggles his fingers towards their team's dugout?

And James Shields pulled it back to become a serviceable innings-eater. "The dog ate my homework" is an excuse. "He stopped throwing his change-up and keeps changing arm angles" is a reason.

**Movies that we Watch** Thread
Loved the newest spiderman. I have a hard time getting myself to watch odyssey, even though Nolan has been in my top 3 filmmaker list for over 20 years, since seeing Memento in theaters. One movie that everyone needs to see is GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, DON’T DIE.

They also turn the double play if Hicks doesn't take forever to throw the ball to Colson. Then when he did, it was in a bad spot. Not making excuses for Colson, but they both share some blame on that play.

Can I claim him and have a local beer league softball team play the rest of his salary to cover the entire outfield and hit cleanup for the rest of our season???

I happened to watch a recap of the ALCS and World Series last year. Dominguez was in for 2 blow ups. Shoulda known that he sucked then, but I somehow forgot about them even though I watched pretty much every game during the ALCS and WS.

Wonder if SD would go for LRJ to reinforce their OF depth?

On the radio feed, DJ put that on Hicks not getting it out of his glove and disrupting the flow of the play. But I was listening and not watching so do not have my own opinion. And yes, that was a big play which could have led to Hicks going another inning and with a closer game things might have been different.
