And looking at some of these fledgling "dynasties" (Baltimore, Detroit, Minnesota, Boston) and how quickly the wheels can fall off and the window slam shut, Getz should be planning on that happening to us. Vargas, C & B Monty, Meidroth, Ant-man, Peters, Teel, Schultz, and Martin, everybody looks great, but some of these guys are going to prove to be smoke and mirrors. Some are going to sustain that career-altering injury. Offensively, everybody noteworthy graduated. Now, all you have at the upper levels is Quero, Bonemer, then it starts to thin out with Shelton and DiPino. All of the pitching that was close ran into injuries or setbacks, and we're talking about trading the only promising arm in AA (Gabe Davis). As somebody higher up in this thread said, they're a year early. Ride it out, supplement with fixer-uppers, let the next wave percolate to the upper levels.

A rarity for today, just one factoid: June 29, 1995 – With a 22-hit barrage, the White Sox ran their winning streak to seven games in a 17-13 slugfest at County Stadium over the Brewers. After Ray Durham hit a three-run homer in the top of the sixth to put the White Sox up, 13-6, Bill Wegman drilled Ron Karkovice in the ribs with a 3-0 pitch. Wegman was ejected immediately, and Garner got the boot for whining about it, as the benches emptied. But it only got weirder from there. In the bottom of the ninth, up 17-10, Bevington inserted absolutely wild (two walks per inning) Rob Dibble into the game in garbage time. Dibble whistled his first pitch right under pinch-hitter Pat Listach’s chin, igniting an all-out brawl and the ejections of both Dibble and Listach.

It seems like since the Yankee series the Sox have been getting hurt by a lot of bloop hits. Pitchers making good pitches but the hitters are just getting enough of a piece to put the ball in play and they are falling in.

Fair enough. For me Fauske > Carlson. I like the profile better. His hit tool looks better, plus, if they draft Roch, Carlson already redundant somewhat. Different strokes. But I likely wouldn’t trade either of them or Bonemer. Especially for a rental in a year that the Sox are very unlikely to make the WS.

FWIW, yesterday Braden dove for a bloop off the bat of Isaac Collins and came up just short. Some folks thought he might have misplayed it since the ball hung up in the air for a long time. Statcast data is in: 5% catch probability, the first time Statcast has classified a ball hit to him as potentially catchable without him catching it. That's basically at the "only PCA can catch it" tier. So ultimately I'm fairly impressed that he was only a step from catching it and his ability to run down fly balls continues to impress, especially when you consider the scouting reports usually suggested that he didn't know what he was doing out there and would have to develop in order to be a good overall outfield defender. I think going "all in" this year would be ill advised. Stay the course and let some of these guys grow. Try to get as many bites at the apple as possible. They finally have depth throughout the system with positional players, don't go back to nothing. Then we'd have no pitching or hitting in the pipeline and we are right back to where we were.

Michael Lorenzen is a very good name to keep an eye on. Had a good start for the Rockies against the Twins. However, I don't know how much upside you'll get.

Sorry individually I'd trade them. I don't think in a package together I would do that. As much as I'm skeptical of Billy Carlson's future for the White Sox I wouldn't trade him absolutely. Not for two rentals where you have to eat money. I mean that's the crux of it. All depends on the type of deal. For rentals it shouldn't cost too much. But that doesn't mean that the trade team will recieve something with no upside.

Somebody seems to keep leaking that the Sox won't be trading important prospects this season, so my guess is they'll take on big money, or pick off a guy like Adrian Houser who just got moved to the bullpen. Taking on money for Gray or Robbie Ray is probably attractive, and maybe only the Cards and Guards are in the similar position to take on that money. They've kicked the tires a couple of times on Michael Lorenzen. I don't think they go big.

You said you were willing to trade Fauske to get basically anyone and then also added Gonzalez. Maybe I misinterpreted. Is there anyone you would make untouchable?

That's not all in at all. Don't be ridiculous. Jacob is not going to play 1st base for the White Sox in their competitive years. He's not going to play 3rd base. Vargas is. He's about as blocked as a player can be. You missed the second part of that post which is the Red Sox will allow a team to eat salary. They will. But they won't recieve junk in return.

So you're going all in on this year, burning any and all future assets to compete this year? Fair enough. I would not be that aggressive in the first year of a competitive window, but I respect the passion.

Sox are 2 years ahead of where they should be. And they are still not one of the best contending teams in the league. I hope Getz doesn't mortgage the future just yet. Get solid guys that won't cost alot and stay the course.

Yes to all. Jacob Gonzalez too should be used as a trade chip. Once Mune is back he's not going to be playing meaningful baseball for the White Sox. That being said the Red Sox will absolutely welcome a team taking on more salary. Their desire is to shed as much money as possible.

Who are you willing to trade him to get? I could understand a younger guy with control like Detmers. You willing to trade him for a rental? For Chapman? For the very highly-paid Sonny Gray? For Michael Wacha?

On broadcast yesterday they said TBD whether he needs one more start in Charlotte. He is lined up to pitch 7/1 which would have been Sandlin's next start, so my guess is he's called up for the finale in Balt.
