Yeah well, being in first place instead of last place does help a lot.

Getz dumped two outfielders that could actually be more productive than the outfielder he acquired and paid for with a 15 to 20 ranked prospect in the system, along with a lottery ticket kid. Not that big of a cost, but when said outfielder has a career line like the one below, it looks like a potential waste of resources, and I understand that he has an excellent glove. .234 .285 .385 .670

They have a history. They hired Cora and promptly won a world series after Cora was involved in the Astros sign stealing scandal. They have no honor. Didn't they get Giolito's signs a few years ago? If he is tipping its not cheating tho is it?

Since COVID, Pereira's never played more than 102 games in a season. I don't know if that's from platooning, or what. He was a top 70 prospect, so the Yankees must have prioritized him for a couple seasons. Teel doesn't really enter the conversation. They have a bunch of RHH outfielders. They're not going to cut Kyle Teel to make room for Joey Bart. Grichuk does what Hays should have been doing. The front office seems to think Doyle's a better upside play than Pereira.

Speaking of nicknames, did anybody catch Plesac mention golfing with Craig "Little Hurt" Grebeck yesterday and Schriffen clearly having no idea who he is? I need my next Sox announcer to know things like this.

Yeah he would really sell the dig in every pitch, the Bronze Titan was fun to watch when he had his good stuff for sure.

I’m usually far from a homer/everything is great type of fan…but I really don’t understand what the complaints are in this thread? Is it supposed to be a bad thing that Antonacci and Montgomery locked down the OF corners way earlier (or at all for Sam) than expected? Am I supposed to be mad that Peters has been an extremely pleasant success story? Hays got hurt and the young kids stepped up making him irrelevant to roster. Who cares? And who cares about Everson Pereria while I’m at. His a fringe big leaguer that has no spot on a playoff roster.

Skubal to Dodgers
They also reportedly prioritized getting an OF piece

Pereira had a very good Sunday with a double a homer and 4 rbis and gets DFA the next day. Yeah he was hurt but Teel’s been hurt the just about the whole year. Hays has a pretty good track record and we throw 6 million out the window and DFA him. None of this makes sense.

I keep reading that there's a dearth of RHH OFs, but somehow nobody would give us anything for Hays of Periera, oh well.

Remember with Contreras they just made it look like every pitch was gonna be the splitter. Good luck, it’s either falling off the table or it’s gonna be 96 on the hands- White Sox DFA Austin Hays
Kay makes like $6 million a year so .8 fWAR ain't too bad. He's either neutral or a successful signing. The rest of the guys (minus Dominguez) were cheap, and the Car Jerker was here for like a month. The most expensive was Hays at $6 mil/-.4 fWAR. I'll give you Dominguez as a failed signing, but you've got an outfield of BMont at 0.9 fWAR (in 45 games), Peters at 2.4 fWAR, and Antonacci at 1.4 fWAR. They didn't really end up needing Hays in the way they thought they would, so I have a hard time calling that a failed signing. Murakami and Murphy alone have combined for 3.9 fWAR. I don't think any GM is 100% successful at free agent signings. In fact I'd bet the success rate is pretty low, especially where the Sox usually play. I'm pretty content with what the Sox did with their free agent signings, especially given where the team is right now.- White Sox DFA Austin Hays
Fair enough. I do think there's a good chance he turns it around because of the track record you cite, I'm just dubious a contender would be interested in rostering him.- 8/5 GT - White Sox @ Red Sox (6:10pm CT)
I read that LAD just made Roki Sasaki use a bigger glove so it's more difficult to pick up on a tip. Let's send Davis out looking like this next start. - 8/5 GT - White Sox @ Red Sox (6:10pm CT)
