“The 78” + "The Railyard" = the future of the Sox and Fire
Just write to your 'ole pal JR. He's got you covered. Might not be the GM job you wanted, but it's close enough.

I know they weren’t supposed to be good, but the Bulls are awful. Probably better for their future, but their coach will be axed when they need to win. He was a bad hire.

This is going to do wonders for Sweat and Booker and possibly even Shemar. Sweat is a good DE who is off to a slow start but he has faced all the attention and he isn’t good enough for that.

Looking back at it, JR really messed up with the present stadium design. The original design didn't have the miserable upper deck. He changed the design because he wanted another level of suites. The upper deck ruined the stadium. I hope they don't make the same mistake with the new stadium.

Has anybody on this site been invited to the focus group? I'm going to call my ticket rep Monday and hopefully get an invite. I would really like to go.

St. Charles North doesn’t deserve to be on the same field as this Brother Rice team. 28-0 with 7 minutes left in the 2nd quarter.

regardless of the details I like the event, it's certainly something JR wouldn't have bothered with and it's forward focused beyond just the immediate season.

James Fegan article about the invitations to these focus groups. It explains why this invite came for the Sox, but the focus groups will actually be hosted by Ishbia's group. Chicago Sun-TimesFocus group invites sent to White Sox fans as part of Jus...Despite the appearance of the invites, the focus groups seeking fan feedback will be hosted by Ishbia's City River Holdings venture, rather than the team itself.

White Sox hiring Matt Roffe as Scouting Director
First time that has been said in a positive context 😂 Definitely gives this guy a pay bump. But also likely has shinier tools at his disposal as well as more resources. Also sets him up down the line for a GM job with either the Sox or a rebuilding.

An ominous future...
Rich that the Dodgers care so much about small market competitiveness when they got spanked 4-0 by the Brewers. In fact, four of the final 8 teams were from smaller markets, with White Sox also a bottom 3 payroll and coming off 324 losses in three years.

An ominous future...
And this is why ownership saying this needs to be done because of "competition" is outright lying, as Ken Rosenthal reported months ago this is about making even more money for those in charge of teams.

This Day In Sox History 10/31...
Two factoids today: October 31, 2005 - Happy Halloween! As the White Sox were winning their first championship in 88 years, Sports Illustrated put Scott Podsednik and his winning home run from the second game on the cover. The long caption read, “World Series. In a Match Up of Two Title Hungry Teams, The White Sox Struck First, Dramatically Downing the Astros in Games 1 And 2.” Sports Illustrated then basically ignored the White Sox winning the series by only putting a small circle shot of the team celebrating in the corner of the following week’s cover, breaking a long-standing tradition. The cover that week was Peyton Manning and Tom Brady as the magazine previewed a regular season NFL game….not a Super Bowl matchup, not a playoff contest…but a regular season meeting. October 31, 2024 - The White Sox officially announced the hiring of Will Venable as the 44th field manager in franchise history. Venable came from the Rangers organization where he was the associate manager and helped win a World Series. He also coached in the Red Sox and Cubs organizations after an almost 10-year playing career as an outfielder. He was considered an up-and-comer in the baseball world and many reviews were positive regarding his hiring. He stepped into what many were also considering the most difficult job in the Major Leagues, working with an organization that lost a record 121 games in the 2024 season, had an owner who was at an advanced age, with speculation regarding a new stadium or potentially selling and moving the club and a fan base that, if it wasn’t angry, had simply become apathetic given the state of the club.

Going from 1 to likely 23 in the span of just one year is pretty wild.

And a higher floor doesn’t necessarily equate to better players. It could just lead to the “friends and family plan” players the Sox sign when going after their big free agent target getting paid even more than they are worth.

Then they should opt out of their $8.3 billion RSN deal that they're talking about extending through 2039, too. No more deferred $$$ contracts. Go under the ESPN.com/Disney+ banner, like Rob Manfred wants all of mlb teams in one collective package, within the next 2-3 years.

Impossible to speculate on any of this until the new CBA is dry. The owners initial proposal had the floor around $170MM.
