Next 2 series will be really tough. After Boston, Cleveland is lining up Griffin, Williams, and Messick as their starters V schultz, Kay, and Castillo. On paper, Cleveland has a big advantage with the pitching matchup's.

What made you choose September 1 as the beginning of the time period showing him as the worst outfielder?

Derek Hill with the Phillies: 36gms, 1.6 bWAR, 837 OPS, 5 homers. Another guy we gave away for free, only to turn around and pay for Doyle to replace him. Unbelievable.

Let me get this straight. The Sox acquire Bart for offense then keep Romo on the roster. Got it, oh wait, huh? Just because they didn't want to DFA Romo? Seriously? Who would pick him up off waivers? Cleveland or Minni for intel? I guess Romo will eventually be DFA'd when Teel is ready anyway then we'll see who claims him. Hopefully Bart has a much better feel for the strike zone than any of our catchers for ABS.

Quero seems to need work on all parts of his game, whereas it could be assumed that Doyle's defense will play. I don't know how catching defense affects fWAR, but I've always found that fWAR and bWAR were pretty useless when including catching defense. Does Baseball Prospectus still have the best catcher ranking system?

Romo has to be on about life #5 of his 9 lives in the big leagues.

I mean, I don’t expect either of their numbers to be good. When I watch the games I don’t feel confident that either of them know what they are doing to be honest, there is nothing either does that gives me the feeling that one is the better defender than the other. Quero has won a few games with his bat and that’s about all the good things I can say about him. Romo had a mild hot streak when he came up and that’s the best thing I can say about him. Every game I watch Romo seems to burn a challenge in the dumbest way possible. Picking between Romo and Quero to me feels like picking which pile of s%*# smells worse, you are welcome to believing in Romo if you wish.

Maybe we will see El Duque 2.0 (Huascar Brazobán) in a replay of the 2005 ALCS. It feels like the Sox need to hold the BoSox scoreless to win .

It's clear he has a great relationship with the staff. He's a solid defender. Quero's bat isn't good enough to compensate for the difference in defense between he and Romo. Catcher is one of those positions where teams are fine sacrificing defense for offense, which is clearly what the Sox are doing by grabbing Bart. Catcher is a hell of a lot more than just a bat, catching the ball, and throwing out baserunners. Pitch calling, feel for situational baseball, inspiring confidence in the pitching staff, ABS challenges, etc. By those measures, Romo is a much better catcher than Quero. Teel is an exception because his bat does (errr did) exceed the cost of his defensive deficiencies.

With the three pitchers we have going and as tough as the opponent will be, this feels like a playoff series.

I take myself too seriously but you're running around calling me an idiot because I post facts (worst outfielder in baseball since September 1st) about a players performance. I just find it hilarious that Soxtalk couldn't wait to demote and move on from Edgar Quero because he was "so bad" yet he has the same fWAR as Brenton Doyle since September 1st of last year and Quero has played more games, so Doyle has been even worse.

So September of last year wasn't in the second half and doesn't count? One of my favorite Soxtalk exercises is the removal of all bad periods and the emphasis on good periods only. And he's nothing like Vargas. Vargas always had great strike zone command and an elite approach. Doyle has bad strike zone command and a poor approach. The White Sox acquired one of the worst players in baseball over the last 1 1/2 years but you've painted this giant rose. Very fascinating.

Ray Ray the Robot doesn't have time for injuries and personal problems. It's easy to be skeptical. Hope is seeing light in darkness and letting the light heal. Human beings understand that life and baseball reflect growing from failures.
