Chicago White Sox's Offseason FA Signings Trades Megathread
Bob Sacamano replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah no way players union would allow that. -
White Sox sign Jarred Kelenic, non-roster invite
Chicago White Sox replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I’m all for the signing too, but let’s not treat it more than it is. Minor league lottery ticket at a position of weakness. He’s got to show he is not 30% worse of a hitter than Dominic Fletcher before I start considering him for the majors. -

That would likely require a battle in the CBA, and the players would probably not allow it. -
Chicago White Sox's Offseason FA Signings Trades Megathread

MLB needs to do something to get their offseason going, some sort of incentive to signing free agents in the 1st week of FA, with lesser incentives as every week goes by and install a deadline for the players to sign by. I remember tuning into the winter meetings being so excited but has just been a big letdown for awhile now. MLB needs to do something to get the fans tuned in for the offseason. - Yesterday

White Sox win draft lottery, will pick #1 in 2026
GreenSox replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The only overslot picked in first10 rounds since 2020 to reach the majors are Burke and Cannon, 2 college pitchers. In 2023, they decided to go underslot early instead of mid-rounds and ended up with Keener and Gonzalez from picks 3 and 1. The one they played straight? Grant Taylor pick #2. Hopefully Oppr and Wolkow end up like early round picks. -
White Sox sign Jarred Kelenic, non-roster invite
Dick Allen replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He’ll probably play a month or two in Charlotte and get released, and we will never hear from him again. But I really don’t mind the signing, just expecting zero. -
Is “The 78” Dead? Or even more alive? Fire announce plans for SSS
Lip Man 1 replied to soxfan18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Good let them talk. "You are looking live" at the Hammond Bears. 😉 The politicians have made it pretty clear until the Bears pay off the renovation debt from 2002 they aren't getting any cooperation. Let them go to Indiana, they'll still be the Chicago Bears. -

I read where the Bears are meeting with the Indiana officials next Tuesday. ( January 6) It will be interesting to see if there is any movement on a new Bears stadium. -
White Sox win draft lottery, will pick #1 in 2026
Y2Jimmy0 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
They haven’t really been “punting” but in order to go overslot without comp picks, the money has to come from somewhere. It doesn’t really but teams like having agreements in place so that they know how much they can spend throughout rest of draft. -
White Sox sign Jarred Kelenic, non-roster invite

Kelenic stinks. I doubt the Sox are guaranteeing him anything, and if they are they're stupid. Don't mind taking the shot to see if they can "fix" him to be a positive contributor but I expect he'll either be in AAA or released to go play overseas by the start of the season. -

Sox choose cheapness over that BS no matter what they say. -

How about Vasil in rotation? Of course taylor too, although I guess Bannister & Co. have injury concerns (so I've read). Maybe try Cannon in pen? -

Yeah, that's what I don't get. If Sox draft him and want to give him $10 million, what difference does it make if Tampa Bay offers him $12 million? I understand if its a high schooler or something. -

GreenSox replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My preference in 2024 was "anybody but Smith." I am more of a "do not draft" guy. I still don't quite get why Sox need to honor other teams' promises to him: He was a 3-year college player, so he had no leverage to not sign. Overslot obligation seems like another reason to pick someone else. Given that Sox philosophy is to overslot and punt, a comp pick would be particularly beneficial this year. -

One thing I don't understand in this thread is people talking like "give Kelenic a chance," as if he hasn't gotten 1500 PA's over the past 4+ years. Why should he be treated differently than any other minor league add? A starters job? Guy should be lucky to be a 4th outfielder at this point. Fuller will fix him is becoming a pretty fun MEME though. -
I’ll have preview out this weekend for FutureSox. They have some monster classes coming if the rules stay the same.
