I’d like to see $ spent via an “eating a contract” trade that also nets prospects. Who’s a player that can actually start and be a useful piece while also getting prospect value back? I don’t WANT him…but what kind of prospect(s) do you think we could get back from the Phillies if we took on Castellanos and his full $20M? Casty could easily hit 30 HR’s in our stadium and get traded again at the deadline too. Other names?

The other good news is if he is what we all hope, his contract is up 2 years from the end of the Reinsdorf regime of terror, and Ishbias voice should be even louder. Hopefully White Sox fans being conditioned to believe we can't have nice things is coming to an end. Even though they would deny it, it's hard to believe Ishbia had nothing to do with this.

Also worth noting that while the Sox are putting out 40m total for this signing, I bet a sizable chunk of this comes back to them in the form of Japanese ad sales. Wouldn't be surprised at all see Japanese ads in the park for opening day, plus some specialty media deals.

Win-Win. I understand folks wanting more than 2 years. If he comes here and tears it up, there is reason to believe Ishbia will see the value in keeping him around. The cultural impact alone can move merch. If he comes here, and struggles to establish himself, well...its 2 years.

Venable hinted at a bunch of moves. Rumors are nonexistent. They still need a SP, veteran OF, trade Robert, a back-of-the-bullpen arm, and then the group of extraneous bullpen fodder. I can't imagine that Murakami was holding up any market.

I’m not against trading Robert, but it’s got to be for a solid return and there has to be a plan for the OF. I actually kind of think Baldwin could handle CF and that idea is highly intriguing to me. Small sample sizes last year, but per Statcast he really struggled in the corner OF spots (primarily on lateral movement) and was overall solid in CF. He may be a guy who struggles with reading the angles in LF or RF due to limited experience there, but can get by in CF due to his sneaky speed and the easier reads of the position. But that would leave a massive hole in RF and force us to play Benintendi in LF without a decent addition.

Even if we paired Robert with Quero we aren't getting that package.

At least we are trying to somewhat compete which is good to see.

Not if you trade for the Houston CF in another move. Maybe move Cannon and something else.

Free agent after two years. Does that mean they agreed to no qualifying offer? Wish they could have had a option year or two though don't know how that figures into posting fee or 15% if exercised?

They might buy low on Chase Petty since they liked him previously. He had a rough start to his career but Bannister can work with him. If they pay some of Robert's money they could get it done since CIN is cash poor.

This is so unexpected, I'm hardly sure how to act honestly. Just not a move that happens, IMO, without the current secondary (to be primary) ownership in place. Maybe I'm wrong, but history says I'm not. I love it!

Disagree. Pointless to keep a guy who won't stay healthy and has a s%*# work ethic on this team. Cut ties and let him be someone else's problem even if that means Hill in CF. Re-allocate his salary into something more useful.
