  1. Past hour

  2. Other than Roch going to W-S, have any other picks been assigned to minor league teams?
  3. I’m kind of shocked they are sticking with Schultz in the rotation today. Hoping for the best though…glad they are using an opener.
  4. Higher than Landon Gonzalez's? 😉
  5. We about to find out if Getz is a madman as a buyer or just kind of chill
  6. Boy that really hurt your feelings, didn't it. I was talking about people like you, not the MLB.
  7. He had some injury last year too right? Edit: nvm thought he did for some reason in the minors
  8. For some reason I thought Rutschman was way younger and had way more years left before free agency. I can’t believe he’s 28, going on his 5th season of pro ball, and will be a free agent after next season. Just wild.
  9. They probably had a deal in theory with Thome before they even made the trade. They had to get that pick because the Yankees were rumored to want him at 35. They wanted him AND his discount they already knew he'd give.
  10. Absolute best case? Probably like a LH version of Vargas. Middle case? Probably a backup utility guy. Half the time he never makes MLB, floor with any HS guy is obviously just org filler. Like Vargas as a prospect, he needs to add weight and get more athletic.
  11. 🤷 I would say part of the deal here is that the ceiling for these kids is high in part because we're not even as good at knowing their ceilings. I look at Jacob Thome and I see a kid. I don't know what the man version of him will be like. Might be worse at baseball than the kid version for all I know. And then to be ticky tack about this, I think this question should probably be about Cole Prosek even though we took him with the other pick. He got paid more and I wonder whether the Sox were thinking they might not have the pool money for him if they hadn't gotten Thome under slot at 34. And then you can look at the numerous other over-slot players who may have been chosen in part due to the financial flexibility afforded by the extra pick at #34.
  12. But some dork on this site said he wasn’t as highly thought of as a trade target as Dieters is because of his race. When will the woke brainwashing nonsense end?
  13. I'm sure some of them do and for a subset of them, it basically works. I've heard numerous comments to the effect of most major leaguers are guess hitters. If you're gonna guess, you better know the scouting report inside out and backwards. I think the truth is probably a little more complicated, e.g. sometimes guessing, sometimes not, plus the guess isn't 100% selling out for one exact pitch in one exact spot.
  14. Hagen Smith and Wolkow. The Sox won't regret it cause the Angels will absolutely not develop them.
  15. f*** it, now I want Detmers again.
  16. Teel might be back this season. And his latest injury was a complete fluke. You are jumping to conclusions here. What was his injury history prior to this year?
  17. Pivoting back to this. Anyone heard anything?
  18. One thought about the general philosophy around trading a young MLB-ready player for a draft pick/draft slot $. I think executives (rightly) see the ceiling for high schoolers taken in the first ~60 picks to be extremely high. Floor is most often extremely low and that's why they aren't just snatched 1-1. So if you look at Jacob Gonzalez and say even though his ceiling includes being a valuable player, it doesn't include being a star player, that informs your decision to get a pick instead. If you lose a deal like that 4 out of 5 times, but the 1 time you win it's by 10x, then it's a good gamble. Of course if I was a big fan of Gonzo I might want to say that he's a lefty shortstop flashing power so the ceiling might be rather high for him. I had a nice interaction with Jacob at spring training when he was signing autographs (notably, he was a minor leaguer who was often NOT asked for autographs because fans didn't know who he was or perhaps didn't care) so I basically root for him. At the same time, I also root for the White Sox to not make stupid decisions so it won't break my heart if he's an unexceptional player.
