He just gets up there and hacks away. With RISP he’s first-pitch hacking damn near every time. He looks like a very immature hitter with his approach. That average is slowly walking down toward .200 and his OPS working its way down to sub-.750. Might be time for him to pretend he’s not here to swing out of his shoes every AB.

EIGHT factoids today: July 25, 1925 - Sox catcher and future Hall of Famer Ray “Cracker” Schalk played in his 1,576th game behind the plate…at that time it was the Major League record. He played his entire career except for five games with the Sox between 1912 and 1928. July 25, 1954 - In the first game of a twin bill at Boston, Sox pitcher Jack Harshman set the franchise record, later tied, by striking out 16 Red Sox. Harshman, a converted first baseman, was taught a slip pitch, a variation of a palm ball by manager Paul Richards. He’d get the win 5-2. At the time it was two off the Major League record. 13 of his strikeouts were swinging on the day. The Sox would then sweep the double header taking the second game, 4-2. July 25, 1955 – As part of the class of 1955 White Sox pitcher Ted Lyons entered the Hall of Fame on this day. Lyons spent his entire 21-year career with the White Sox winning a total of 260 games. 17 times he won at least 10 games in a season and in three of those years he won over 20. He saved 25 games and had a staggering 356 complete games! July 25, 1955 –On the same day former White Sox pitcher Ted Lyons entered the Hall of Fame, former White Sox catcher Ray Schalk garnered the same honor. The two were actually teammates for a little over five seasons on the South Side. Schalk caught over 17-hundred games in his career which was the Major League record at the time. He led the league in fielding, putouts, assists and chances for a single season and caught four no-hitters including a perfect game with the team thrown by Charlie Robertson. He was the best defensive catcher in baseball in the early part of the 20th century. July 25, 1959 - Marathon game #2 of the 1959 season took place again against the Orioles and again at Comiskey Park. This one was another 17-inning affair that saw the Sox tie the game in the ninth and then win it thanks to Harry “Suitcase” Simpson’s single, scoring Sammy Esposito. The final was 3-2. Bob Shaw started and went 11 innings, Omar “Turk” Lown then went the last six innings and got the win. July 25, 1967 – Only one time in franchise history have the White Sox had two walk-off home runs on the same day. It was a twi-night double-header at Comiskey Park against the Indians both won in dramatic fashion. In the first game the Sox rallied from down a run in the eighth inning then got the game winner when J.C. Martin slugged a two-run shot off of “Sudden” Sam McDowell scoring Tommie Agee ahead of him and winning the game 3-1. The nightcap went into the 16th inning after the Sox again rallied with two runs in the eighth inning and then trailed 5-4 before Ken Berry stepped up in the last half of that frame and belted a two-run blast, off of Steve Bailey scoring Kenny Boyer ahead of him to win it 6-5. July 25, 2003 – In the fifth inning of an eventual 7-2 Sox win over Tampa Bay at U.S. Cellular Field, “The Big Hurt” Frank Thomas blasted his 400th career home run. It was a solo shot off Jorge Sosa. Thomas would finish his Sox career with 448 home runs. July 25, 2020 – Some afternoons you just can’t miss. Such was the case for Sox utility player Leury Garcia. In a game against the Twins at Guaranteed Rate Field, Leury homered from both sides of the plate in a 10-3 pasting of Minnesota. His first home run came hitting left-handed off of Zach Littell. The other long ball came hitting right-handed off of Devin Smeltzer. On the day he’d go 3 for 4 with two runs scored and four RBI’s. He became the eighth White Sox player to pull off this feat.

I wouldn’t view any of these as long-term decisions except for Taylor, who they feel from a bio-metrics standpoint is better suited for relief. At this point, there is no real reason to waste time ramping-up McDougal when he can help the major league bullpen this year and has already gotten up to 113 innings just a year ago. I think he can easily revert back to starting next year and not miss a beat. We saw Crochet make a much bigger leap in 2024. Hagen is a different matter. I’d be trying to stretch him out and seeing if he can show more consistency command & stuff-wise as a SP. I’m a little concerned that he can’t handle starting based on what we’ve seen this year, but I’d prefer giving it more time before settling on a bullpen role. He flashed big time in the AFL and it’s a shame that Bannister hasn’t figured out how to reign him in. He can still be valuable in a bullpen role, but that would be a huge miss based on where we took him in the draft and who we passed on.

Arizona Complex League is finished for the Sox. 19-41 is second worst record by 1/2 game and they had the worst run differential at -135. Hopefully this years draft and some additions from the DSL make it better next year.

Of course AI was used. LOL.It was fantastic for those of us who remember Comiskey. The color enhanced images of the original Comiskey (based on actual b/w photos) were stunning. I only remember Comiskey after Veeck foolishly painted the brick white. Hard to believe Veeck had the great idea to put vines in Wrigley, but he and his son Mike tried to make Comiskey a clown show.

3 of their top 4 SP prospects have now all been moved to the bullpen. (taylor, McDougal, smith)

I'd love the Sox to go after Hunter Greene if he's made available. I'd trade a haul for that.

McDougal. It occurs to me watching them prioritize moving their top pitching prospects to the pen, are they going to do a Rays type move where they trade a veteran bullpen arm like Newcomb or Hicks or Hudson or please God Seranthony to get a starter. I simply don’t believe Getz is ready to mortgage the future to gain a couple of wins this year.

I think Hancock will have a good bit more value, but I was thinking something like this as well. Throw in Pereira and probably 1 of Adams/McDougal. Successful prearb SP’s don’t exactly hit the trade market often, I imagine the Mariners will have plenty of offers. I think it would make total sense for the future of the Sox given the MIF talent we have coming up and Hancock’s cheap controllable contract.

It's not like Hagen has a ton to work on or anything! Don't worry, they super duper promise this is temporary. Sox love taking their starters and turning them into two pitch bullpen arms. At least he doesnt have command issues which rear their head horribly out of the pen. Ill say i think he's a reliever anyway.

The Sox have been pretty resilient after tough losses but this one will be a tough one to forget blowing a 5 run lead especially when we could have gone 2.5 games up on Cleveland.

Might have to juggle the lineup, time for Colson to be moved out of the cleanup spot. Alternate between Ant Man and Meidroth at leadoff and the second spot depending on the pitcher.

The injuries to Teel and the regression of Quero shows how important it is to draft and develop. Before the WBC the Sox catching was one of their strengths but that has quickly evaporated.
