This team is so much fun. The offense has been great all year, but the pitching has been hit or miss. The offense continued being awesome this series, and the pitching was nails. Big credit to Venable with the management of the pitching, too. I think if they take one in Cleveland, they win the ALDS. The atmosphere at The Rate will be incredible. The Sox should have the first home game be a blackout game again and wear their Southside jerseys.

I am trying to wrap my head around the Sox strategy for pitching. Is it that they lack arms that can go 6+ innings from the start that they get creative with openers, then a guy who goes for several innings and then lock down the later innings? Or is it that they are unpredictable with who will pitch, making other teams have to scout every pitcher and have hitters adjust to the pitcher coming out of the pen?

Well, my initial comments that you are responding to was that they had a better trade deadline than the Sox.

My argument isn’t the Sox had a good trade deadline. It’s that the Cubs didn’t have as good as one as you were drooling over all second half.

By that argument, sports message boards and talk radio and podcasts will always be completely worthless...yet how would Chicago survive without Bears/Cubs-related criticism? The actual ratio of media talk about the Bears to elapsed game time of those 17 on the schedule plus pre and postseason must like be 100-150 to 1. And that grace period Ozzie got for brilliant managing from 2005-2008 had totally worn out its welcome by 2009-11. Just when you start to think someone doesn't belong they prove that they do. At various points in the season Kay, Fedde , Acuna, Hagen , Schultz ,Colson, Braden, Murakami and on and on have taken their lumps from this board. Yet we're still in it and the Red Sox, Cubs and Astros aren't. Just have fun and stop worrying about who sucks and who doesn't. Unless they win the World Series all of us are going to end up a bit disappointed sooner or later.
