White Sox acquired RHPs Jordan Hicks and David Sandlin from BOS
T R U replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You need to take last years improvement with a grain of salt, they were coming off the worst season in baseball history. This season is where you will actually see what kind of improvement is happening. -

5) I don't think they'll "pre-plan" what to do with Antonacci. He's not even on the 40-man. Meidroth would have to stumble for Ant to get a shot. Or maybe, I don't know, Benintendi OPS's about .520 in the first 2 months. Ant will have to really force the issue. 7) I believe Getz is just waiting for somebody to drop mid ST. Martin Perez just signed a minor league deal. These guys are going to see their markets aren't developing. 9) Gilbert and Hudson start out with the inside track, and roster spots are theirs to lose. Getz kept Hudson over many when the 40-man got tight. They want to see what he has in spring. Newcomb could break camp in the rotation for a few cycles, and if Hudson struggles (and Newcomb looks weak 2nd time through the lineup), that's the move to the pen for New. 10) The closer we get to pitchers & catchers, Paez looks like a PTBNL. Maybe the other is Alberto, and the Red Sox send somebody to the Rays to facilitate that.

The term victory lap was applied to the people praising Getz so it was the anti Getz doing the poking at the opposite side. We can have our opinions without denigrading opposite opinions .No GM is perfect and many things are out of his control. Hes tried to build an infrastuture to carty the team foward into the next owner based on empowering everyone with information. Sdems rather noble to me. Theres a kind of harmony throughout the organization now that has a lot to do the purity of being genuinely positive and caring about building something. A lot of people are starting to see that and they feel good about it. It isnt just the Rick and Kenny Show. A similar improvement to last year will get the Sox within spitting distance of .500. Step by step rebuild ,still without much of a player payroll.

Im not accusing anybody of wanting Getz to be the GM, I am just generally speaking that when you have a failed rebuild it is incredible rare that you hire from within to lead the next rebuild. -

Nobody's arguing that they shouldn't have done that. Everybody couches their arguments with "I didn't want Getz" or "Getz shouldn't have been hired in the first place". Part of the illogical part for me is that while they should have cleaned house, Getz wasn't glaringly responsible for what he inherited. They developed the top prospects. The Sox didn't have the coaching or trainers in place to keep them on the field in top shape. That Getz didn't get fired along with Hahn and KW isn't an argument that he should have been fired. Some like to frame it as Getz snitching and blaming, but he most probably laid out a plan for what needed to happen going forward, and he seems to be clicking off a list. I don't get this obsession with portraying him as a painfully stupid failure. Nothing worked in 2024. processes started working in 2025. -

The point is, this organization had cratered and the proper thing to do at that point was clean house and do an actual search to bring in the right people to get the ship headed in the right direction. I really don't think that's unfair at all. It's unfair to the fanbase more than anything. - Today

OD 26 Man Roster Projection
Chicago White Sox replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Couple of questions / thoughts as I look at the roster above: DFA’ing Romo makes me feel we’re carrying three catchers to start the season, which leaves only three bench spots to cover everything else. With Lee on the bench, Teel & Quero should get plenty of time at DH. It also feels like Benintendi will get some time at DH as well. The primary OF should be Acuna in CF and some combo of Hayes & Baldwin in the corners. Pereira replaces Baldwin against LHP and Benintendi fills in against RHP with Baldwin shifted over to CF when Acuna needs a day off. Based on the above, two of the three bench spots are going toward OFs, which means the last one should go to an IF. Given other SS coverage options, it feels like Sosa is a shoe-in for the role of they keep him. How does Antonacci their impact decision-making? If Getz feels he could be ready by July, do they proactively trade Sosa and give Mead the reserve IF spot? I still believe that’s a very real possibility if a market is there for Sosa. The top three of the rotation appears to be set, leaving two roles open for competition. I think Burke is the heavy favorite for the #4 spot as he got better as last year progressed and could easily be our best SP if he can get his slider back in form (which was an offseason priority for him). The final rotation spot is wide open and reflects a fairly big hole at the moment. Will they add one more SP in free agency or go with what they have? My gut tells me this is what they are going with and the #5 spot will likely come down to Newcomb vs. Cannon (and maybe Vasil). That being said, I think this spot will quickly go to Thorpe, Sandlin, or McDougal. The right side of the bullpen is mostly locked in and will occupy at least five spots and likely six. Dominguez, Hicks, Leasure, Taylor, & Vasil will all make the Opening Day roster. My guess is one of the Rule 5 guys will be that sixth guy, but Gonzalez will certainly challenge them for that last spot. The left side of the pen is a big question mark and I think anything is possible there assuming Newcomb starts the year in the rotation. Gilbert is out of options and was ok last year which should give him an edge. Hudson is also out of options, but was bad last year. However, he has survived multiple rounds of roster shuffle and I think they want to give him a legit shot to make the OD roster. I could see those being your two lefties early on with Eisert & Murphy in AAA to start the season. Borucki is also probably in the mix. Unless Paez is one of the PTBNL in the Hicks trade, there is zero chance we are able to keep both him and Alberto. Paez remains the favorite for that last spot as they obviously liked him better at the time of the Rule 5 draft and he can provide some bulk garbage innings. IMO, Alberto will have to be an absolute monster this spring to make the team given recent additions. -
I’m willing to bet most teams already have bidets haha

Bowden will also be handing out Participation Trophies.

The Cubs getting an A is insane to me. They let Kyle Tucker go. They're going to take a step back this season i predict.

Yes, and a huge part of the leadership roles Getz sat in is influence and having influence. Its a failure on him to have failures and simply blame those above him. Now his job is to influence ownership into investing in the roster and hes been a disaster there too. I said what I said though and dont want to derail the thread.
-
If he gets off to another bad start, I think that is what will happen.
-
The graphic is wrong for whatever reason, they actually have a B- in the piece.
-
Exactly this. Everyone’s performance is impacted by the budget and resource they are given. The player development function was certainly bad under Getz, but is that because he had no idea what to do or is it because KW & Hahn wouldn’t let him modernize the infrastructure? Just fascinating that as soon as he took over the org, he invested in data and technology. Also interesting that despite bad outcomes in his previous area, he was able to convince Jerry he had a plan for figuring out the org. Sure feels like a dude who was held back by his leadership team. Not justifying that means Getz should have been promoted to GM, but I think it’s unfair to assume he should have been fired based on outcomes alone when we know this org was rotten to its core under KW & Hahn.

This is the only thing I’ll say about it (again), but if you were in “charge” of something but then change the entire process and how resources work when you are ACTUALLY in charge of it, then you probably weren’t really in charge the first time. -

No, he should have been fired. When you’re responsible for player development and no one develops, you shouldn’t keep your job much less get promoted when they decide to clean house. We’re not talking about a good scout who the GM ignored here. -
It's a lot more than his arm. His jumps are below average as well. I'm sure much of that can very well be attributed to his nagging injuries the past few years, but he's essentially useless in the field at this point in his career. We're honestly lucky he's been able to hit 20 HR's the last two years, or I'm not entirely sure he'd have any value on either side of the ball.

Sox swing and a miss with black history month graphic
Chisoxfn replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He was first player in MLB history for have 7 straight seasons of .300, 20hr, 100 rbi, and 100 walks. I also believe he was first with 400 home runs (and all time leader) and 1st two time MVP in franchise history! He has a million firsts - this was not a fluke - this was done on purpose. -

The f*** up here is that they cite Minoso breaking the color barrier, Al Smith as the first Black All-Star, but then use African American throughout. So it creates intense confusion. -

Frank Thomas got snubbed. I am so mad over this. He has to be everybody's favorite Sox player of all time. I mean, yeah some of the old, old old timer pitchers were amazing but Frank Thomas??? He IS the White Sox. The Sox should fix the graphic now and add him for one. For two, they should fire anybody and everybody who had anything to do with that graphic. And I'm furious about Bo. My gosh ... the most electric player (arm, speed) in Sox history. Bo fricking Jackson got the snub. What in the heck is this organization doing?? If you are gonna do a graphic mentioning so many people, double and triple proofread it for heaven sake. Thanks for your service Big Hurt!!! You are my favorite hitter of all time; pitcher Gary Peters.
