I'll be the first to argue that voting is a utilitarian exercise in harm reduction rather than an opportunity to pat yourself on the back for staying pure and clean with a 'principled' vote who brought us to this point? who failed spectacularly at every level for a long period of time? who got outplayed by the GOP over and over and over again? who has had an economic platform that's helped to perpetuate our large and growing economic gaps, entrenching wealth and power in the hands of a few? who had no response to an increasingly unhinged GOP throughout the Bush years, culminating in Trump, the logical end-game of decades of GOP politics, not a bastardization? why should the establishment be trusted? why are they the safer option in the wake of their catastrophic failures in 2016? where have they shown that they've changed and learned? what, exactly, is inspiring and trust-building so far in Schumer's leadership? e: until you stop ranting about "Bering and his followers" and actually engage in what others are saying, which is broader and goes back farther than Sanders, I think I'm done with this convo.

What if I want better than what establishment Dems have offered on abortion, environmental protections, climate change, and especially health care? Why is it always up to the progressives to compromise their views and stances in service of the centrists?

That isn't mutually exclusive though, and Dems can get the message across to both suburbanites and rural blue collar people. They have forgotten how to campaign. When you go to urban areas, you talk about how your policies appeal to urban people, and when you go to rural areas, you talk about the things that benefit those people there. The huge issue is people who might vote Dem but are bigots. Those people are hard to win over and will lean GOP more often than not. I laugh at this, because you hear from GOP supporters all of the time that they don't play identity politics but they do. Their identity politics is I'm white and the riff raff is taking over the country. I don't want any riff raff! Also, there is a special place in hell for Libertarians. We should give them the area between San Bernadino, CA and Phoenix, AZ and bordered on the south by Mexico and the north by Lake Mead as their own little country and let them go play Hunger Games there. I haven't been able to figure out how to gain understanding and support through individuals, so I took it to the political arena. Politics isn't a spectator sport and there isn't a damn thing in the world that isn't political in some way or another. Unfortunately, I'm an outlier when it comes to autistic people as I am a natural extrovert, despite the disability pushing most who have it to introvertedness. I'm not shy about being autistic, and I want to be an activist to the best of my ability. I don't have a large group of supporters, because most don't care about fighting for their rights. The community likes to b**** about things, but they don't want to really do anything about it. I don't care. Even if I don't have the support of the community, I'm still going to fight on their behalf to make their lives better in any way I can.

Who cares what garbage candidate Republicans will go for? Stop chasing their votes! Get all your Democrats voting, and go after the people who are currently non-voters. That's another source of frustration among the left with the Democratic leadership.

I have personally spoken with the Democratic nominee for Kane County Sheriff on a training program to help police officers better understand how to deal with an autistic person they may encounter when on the job, so I'm hoping to somewhat help that issue here in Kane county.

How do you propose to control candidates in other states? You act like its simple to just tell everyone to vote like robots. You also seem to be forgetting the rules of the game that is being played. Even if every Democrat voted no, the bill still would have passed. Look at the states where the "Yes" votes are from, places like ND, MO, IN, AL. These are not exactly Democrat strongholds, so they also have to play the game to try and keep their seats. I get that you want something more, but sometimes you have to be pragmatic.

Randy Johnson was called up when he was 24 years old. Pedro was used mostly as a reliever initially. Kopech is averaging 5 innings a start. That would most likely go down if promoted. I would think at the very least, you would have to be pretty sure he can average 5 innings a start before a promotion or you will be killing the rest of the staff, just so you can show off the new toy to play with.

The Cubs called up Soler and Baez in 2014. They called up Bryant, Russell, and Schwarber in 2015 and started competing. That’s five of their major prospects with several (Almora, Torres, Jimenez, Contreras, etc) still in the minors. Moncada, Lopez, and Giolito are already up. Jimenez and Kopech will be up in 2019 at the latest. That’s five of their major prospects with several still in the minors. Not sure why you’re projecting the Sox will need four years after their first main core is called up to compete—that really has no precedent. This doesn’t even count Anderson as a “major prospect,” or account for the fact that Collins and other prospects may be called up in ‘19 as well. That’s a lot of the core talent. You shouldn’t need to fill the entire roster with 40 hot prospects within a 6-month window to get your rebuild going.

Greg, don't confuse REDDY with widespread hatred. Frustration sometimes, about his (over) support for 2nd Amendment gun rights (but this is true of many Dems from rural areas, not just Sanders)...about his lack of interest in foreign affairs, leading him to focus almost exclusively on domestic (economic) issues, but he's actually "loved/admired/adored" by many people under 35 in America. They might believe a lot of his ideas are impractical from an economic/budgeting standpoint (pie in the sky), but the Republicans just sold an equally preposterous tax package that gives 90% of the benefits to corporations and the rich/elites, and they got away with it...so who's to say what's possible anymore and what's not.

I think everyone understands the concept, they just don’t buy it will work. In the past, it has worked 1 out of 3 when the extended Freddy Garcia. It was a bit different because he was really tight with Ozzie and he didn’t become a free agent, and signed a slight discount. Samardjiza, Bartolo Colon are 2 guys who didn’t seem to find it a place they couldn’t leave, plus it would have cost good prospects. Right now Russell and Schwarber is what I hear it is going to cost, so they would have had to beat that. I personally think the whole point was he was going to like losing so much in the frigid empty GRF, that they would convince him to take a discount. It wasn’t going to happen. If they offer him the most money this winter, I like their chances. I don’t think they have a chance if they don’t. And I don’t think they would have had a chance if they traded for him during the winter and didn’t offer the most cash.

Dont agree with the more pure form of basketball than college. What makes college basketball so great is that you actually see different types of offenses/defenses being run. NBA is dominated by on ball screens, pick & roll and iso. Sure you will see some teams run off the ball screens, but you dont see one time running swing offense while the other team runs motion. NBA is dominated by stars, most teams design their offense around the star dominating the ball or shots in some way. College is more of a team sport, which I really think is the more pure form. Im also confused by the "actually play defense" as if you look at Kenpom adjusted defense many of the top teams are defensive powerhouses https://kenpom.com/ In comparison, NBA teams today arent really that good historically defensively : https://nbamath.com/adjusted-team-ratings/ Only the Spurs in 2016 come in the top 15.

I still think there's a #2/3 starter in there somewhere. Everyone compares him to Floyd. Floyd had lost considerable velocity when he was traded here(was throwing 89-91 and maxing at 93 vs 94-96 as a top prospect, similar to Giolito) and eventually after being able to finally repeat his mechanics was able to get it back. Floyd struggled during his first stint with the big club, and made great strides his second year with the Sox, even at lower velocity. I think the same will eventually happen with Giolito. We probably won't see the best of Giolito until the 2nd half of 2019 or 1st half of 2020. I'm willing to be patient, because Coop has a track record with Floyd.
