We can't put much stock into what beat writers say. Of course it's speculation. No one is divulging 2020 payroll to a beat writer because the Sox themselves might have a number in mind but that can change if the right opportunities come along to higher or yes even lower if they can't sign anyone.

I don't understand. Anyone who listens to Stone knows he is extremely knowledgeable of the game, and is just a very wise person in general. What if Reinsdorf really has done so much for so many people that never gets publicized and now one false claim is put out there against him and it blows up, and now this is what everyone thinks of him? What if Stone is just defending the truth? I would commend anyone for doing that. Hell, the people that work for Jerry are the ones that know him the best, which happen to be the Sox employees. I mean, if it were me, I'd move Moncada again, sign Rendon, sign Grandal, sign Strasburg, and sign another quality pitcher, say Keuchel. It's not ideal, but the talent at RF on the market isn't going to help the Sox be competitive, certainly not nearly as much as moving Moncada to RF and signing the two best position players on the market. It was a “one off joke”, because that’s not what I typically post here - jokes. Admittedly, many of my posts during my “tenure here” - all ten years of it - have been reacting to the facts surrounding the owner’s current and ongoing record and results on-and-off the field. Even you must admit, said results haven’t been particularly good this past decade. Nevertheless, I’m sorry if my reactions over these past ten years have sounded a bit repetitive, but that’s only because the of the repetitive nature of the results.
