Banner year for White Sox docs. Had Last Comiskey, Fitted in Black, and now new Bill/ Mike Veeck documentary. I'm about halfway through but it's pretty excellent coverage of Bill's last tenure with the Sox. Rest will probably dive more into Mike but I recommend it.

With all that being said - I do not think Poles (nor anyone else in the building), expected Fields to be this downright bad. I think they all expected improvement and the only question was whether they would see enough improvement to make him your franchise QB or not. I think in zero scenario did any of them seeing Fields being as bad of a passer this year (if not worse) than he was last year. The reality is, through 3 games - he has been as bad, if not worse, and that is despite having better wideouts than last year and being in the 2nd year of the system.

Can't really have it both ways. If the Bears were wrong on Fields and the rest of the league is smarter...than what are you going to get for Fields on the trade market? Additionally, as others have said, I don't think the Bears went all in on Fields at all. It makes their job WAY easier if Fields ended up being "the guy" But you hedge by getting that extra Carolina first to have enough capital to do something to put yourself in a position to draft a QB if Fields ended up laying an egg. You use last years first on Stroud, you don't get much back for Fields, there is the chance Fields hits and Stroud doesn't, and now you look bad, and they also were able to acquire DJ Moore, who is still a very good WR in any other offense.

I disagree that this should have to happen. If the first year of his position was under the agreement with owners that he was blowing it all up and starting from ground zero, he should not be getting fired at the end of season 2 unless something significant happened under him that he ignored (like if we found out he knew about whatever Williams resigned over) the leash becomes a hell of a lot tighter though, this staff has to be cleaned out and next season if we are seeing the same clown show he has to go

I don't begrudge teams from building in the Suburbs, including the AHL Rosemont Wolves or other minor league teams. I've been to Kane County Stadium (for the Illinois High School Baseball Championship - Sadly Saint Patrick HS lost) and enjoyed it. That said, any Chicago team that moves to the suburbs are dead to me. The Staleys or whatever they call themselves these days are from Decatur, then Wrigley Field and are garbage, so don't give a s%*# if they move to Arlington Heights, Decatur, Gary or Mogadishu beyond hoping Congress passes a law allowing Chicago to sue their asses if they try to appropriate our city's name. You want to move, fine, just own it you cowardly FBI raid denying, fake ass Monster of the Midway losers. The Chicago White Sox are another matter. Unlike the Bears, Cubs or Bulls, I deeply care about the Chicago White Sox. They have been my favorite baseball team since I began following the sport in 1975. If they move to Addison, Naperville, or even Evergreen Park, they are dead to me unless they return. I will not become a Cubs fan, I will just give up MLB unless they rightfully restore a team to Montreal.

I doubt the 20% number, the CTA doesn't even run anywhere near enough trains to handle 4000 people before and after games. Anyway even if true it would be easily replaced by those who are suddenly only 15-30 minutes away from the park. Lots of people in the suburbs don't want to battle the rush hour traffic on the expressways for an 60-80 minute slog to 35th St.

I can't see the White Sox moving to the suburbs. 20% of White Sox attendance comes via public transportation. Most suburbs have no or little public transportation.

I really think if you read between the lines, he was always a bit more cautious. With that said - you can't go out there and state we are going to stink, etc, but he also had talked multiple times where they knew how many holes they had and that the reality was there was no way they could really fix it in one offseason and the reality is - this was really the first off-season where they had resources. His first actual year on the job - the cap situation was a disaster and they had zero draft capital due to the Fields session, so year one was almost like year 0 given how bad it is, so this is actually year 1. I truly believe the offensive side of the roster is materially upgraded, however, the QB is so bad you can't see it. This is why I legitimately wonder what they do because with a QB this bad (and with no real hope) - continuing to put him out there puts a serious limitation on your ability to evaluate others, whether coaches and/or skill position players (kind of key given that Mooney / Claypool are due for extension(s)). I'm guessing at this point - neither of them may get extensions, which than means, do you trade them and if you do, is there any value for them? The Bears also don't have any legitimate option to turn to at QB (other than throwing a DII player to the wolves and hoping he shocks us).

The whole "southside" team issue is based on a decision the Sox made over 120 years ago. Their fanbase hasn't been there for decades now. Move out to the west/ southwest suburbs and make the drive 30 minutes or so for a huge number of potential ticket buyers and watch attendance soar. The Soldier Field thing is nuts. Even assuming they tear it down and build a new park there it would be so inaccessible to the majority of the Chicagoland area it would be horrible. Many Sox fans would see their travel time increase 15 minutes or so, and it sucks now. Put it in the middle of the Chicagoland population to minimize travel time, not on the east edge of it.

Sox fans should want the Sox to hit that 19.1% shot of not qualifying to enable them a shot at a Top 6 pick in 2025, based on the better 2025 prospect pool and likelihood they will be fielding a non playoff team in 2024. Couldn’t find the exact list of “large market” teams. Washington will be eligible for a Top 6 pick in 2025, but the Mets, Angels, Yankees, Giants, Red Sox and possibly Rockies and or Cardinals will not be eligible in 2025 if they get a Top 6 2024 draft selection and or make the playoffs.

it is so upsetting that this year was only the fourth worst record even if there is a lottery. It was certainly first in the misery index.

I just think actual good coaches still bend this better. Everyone thought the cards would be trash and trying to lose. They had a terrible defense last year. They hired a d coordinator as head coach and he's had them playing incredibly hard against a difficult schedule. Everyone thought the dolphins were trying to tank. Brian Flores scrapes every possible bit of talent into a team that wins more games than flus could dream of. It's a huge red flag that he can't scrape together a competitive defense. Especially since a lot of these guys on d look hand picked for him, including these massive d ends that can't rush the passer, but also haven't shut down the run for us.

That's using quite a bit of hindsight. CJ Stroud was no better than Fields as a prospect. CJ Stroud also came into a worst QB class. Next year's QB crop is considered much stronger by many with two QBs who many believe would go #1 any other draft. Also, if you traded Fields and he was good, you would've been killed by the media. Lastly, it's been 3 games. You saw Fields have 8 pretty darn good games last year. Anyone could put together a string of decent games. It's a matter of, can you win with them and is their success sustainable?

I don't think Flus is a terrible manager as the head coach and I do think he is a good defensive coordinator. That clearly hasn't shown up here and a huge part of that is the Dline stinks. On the offensive side - I don't know if Getsy is good or bad....he clearly didn't design and entirely build a unique offense around Fields - instead took an offense he liked and tried to blend the edges around Fields. The problem is - Fields might be fine on those edge concepts, but there are only so many that you can run and that limits what you can do and Fields in anything more traditional is legitemently the worse QB in the NFL (yes - I think playing within standard plays - even Zach Wilson might be better - but not by a lot). And so I stand by my premise - if the Bears think you need to at least run a modern NFL offense to win in the long run - than YOU WILL NEVER go anywhere with Fields. In fact, you will be an adjunct disaster putting Fields in that system - which is exactly what we have witnessed going on the past 3 years (with literally ZERO improvement in this department). People should go see some of what Lombardi is saying - really coming to defense of Getsy and others and basically stating - if you were an OC, what could you call for Fields and stating that he literally can't make even the most basic of plays. The only highlights you will have is him doing something ridiculous running the football and/or the ocassional dime while everythign hits the fan. That is great - but if you can't do anything worth a damn the other 90% of the time - than you suck. Getting 200% on 10% of the plays while you get a 50% on the other 90% is an F. That is what Justin Fields is as a QB and the entire team is being made worse by having him on the field. Most notably the oline and skill position players.

I don't even think it's that, it's all just cliche's out of the coaches press conference playbook. I understand different philosophies and not taking the approach of throwing players under the bus or going really hard, but that's not even what I'm asking for. I'm just asking for a bit of transparency and being realistic. As you said, which I agree with, it's ok to say "That was awful and unacceptable. We all got to get better in a hurry to turn this thing around. It's on all of us, right now, to dig deep and be the team we know we are." Instead, we got him talking about how they didn't have a lot of time to practice with each other, this is a new team and it's going to take time for this team to gel. YOU made the choice to not play multiple people in the preseason. You have the worst defense in the league since taking over, and you can't point to a single player that has gotten better since you arrived. You're 3-17 with the Bears. I need to hear a little more sense of urgency after your 13th straight loss, you absolute douche. Sorry, that was a rant on Flus, not you. But I'm just so sick of the bullshit from this city. We deserve so, so much better.

Meh. Would be nice to see him get to 40, but maybe not getting to 40 (because of health) would keep him motivated to get to 150 games played next year.

If they move to Arlington (why not Naperville instead?) they'll definitely have a suburban flavor to them. I'd think the diehard loyal south siders won't go out to Arlington much if ever to see the Sox. I would think the Cubs would love the Sox moving out there. They'd have everybody in Chicago proper coming to Wrigley IMO. I would guess true South Siders would be very upset and would not go out to Arlington. But again, suburbia is enough to average 30,000 a game me thinks.

Fields looks like one of the worse pocket passers to ever play. And he is really that. He is clearly a huge part of the problem. The oline and skill position players are good enough. Fields clearly can’t execute and NFL offense. His only chance would be to be in some unique once every ten year offense. I would rather have Lance - cause he is just likely to suck. Fields has 3 years of game film not being able to anticipate throws.

ISFA (located at GRF) will almost certainly make a deal with the Sox for a new lease at 35th and Shields before the current lease expires, especially if the Sox want to rehab or rebuild there. Meanwhile there is nothing structurally wrong with GRF ...a facility than can last for decades if properly maintained. Infrastructure (streets , sewers gas/ electric), parking facilities, access to public transportation, expressway access...it is already there. The ONLY option that might attract the Sox and the City of Chicago is Soldier Field...a very remote possibility and that only....IF the Bears move out and a deal can be worked out, including TIF financing and a share of gaming, hotel taxes, and other revenues. Frankly, I don't see the Sox moving anywhere for decades and any thoughts about that will be put to bed when they get a new lease in place.

Maybe in 10 years the Sox and Bears will be good again. Maybe. I'm 29 years old. I got hooked on the Sox and Bears because of their 05-06 seasons respectively. Neither have had much to show since then. I've basically been a disappointed sports fan throughout all my teenage years and 20s. Why do I continue to be a fan of these teams? Am I just easily duped?

Only the White Sox can see a disaster take place on a supposedly positive individual performance. The baseball gods continue, time after time after time to say, "Until JR is gone we're going to keep shitting all over you..."
