  1. Cishek suggested earlier the focus was going to be on pitching in terms of the trade market. Perhaps they feel they can get Pederson cheap on a 1 year prove it deal after this year and with JR breathing down RHs neck on money issues they may have decided the only way they can realistically add a good cost controlled SP is via trade right now, not the offseason and no doubt JR will require him to show offsetting salary dumps after the season to offset the salary (ie EE, Cishek, Gonzo).
  2. I would get Pederson on a 1 year deal if possible and let him compete with Rutherford and Gonzalez. We need a proven LHH with power and OBP (besides Moncada and Grandal). If you look at his XSLG and XWOBA its actually pretty solid even though he has struggled. Ditch EE, Cishek, Gonzalez which will shave close to 20m off next years payroll. If Bauer wants 1 year deals we can easily do that.
  3. I'd bring up Rutherford pretty soon for Mazara as he seems to be impressing in Schaumberg. It can't be any worse than what we have seen at least.
  4. I wonder if they will give Moncada a day off today so he can have two rest days in a row. I assume the same will happen for Eloy.
  5. Yep....Dunning should be the 3 or 4 right now. Let ReyLo and Rodon compete for 5.
  6. He's living on borrowed time. He's going up against a crappy LHP. If he can't start mashing ASAP, he won't last long. It will be either Collins or if you believe the reports, Vaughn. They may be giving him just a few more games and then cut bait.
  7. Perhaps Clevinger threatened to opt out for the remainder of the year if the service time game was played thus forcing Cleveland to bring him up.
  8. Yeah that would suggest he isnt going to be traded.
  9. Lynn is only under contract thru the end of next year so I don't see the allure especially since Hahn isn't keen on rentals (this would be a semi-rental).
  10. Apparently Rutherford is doing well and making hard contact from what I read today. I wonder if, like Luis Gonzalez, he might get an opportunity this year if Mazara keeps struggling.
  11. Not Cishek is saying Sox are very aggressive and he now thinks a deal will be done but not involving a long term core piece. A poster above suggested ReyLo for Benintendi. That would be fine with me although I think Bloom is more interested in prospects not ML players. Perhaps Hahn now knows the money won't flow in the offseason so the next week is basically the 2021 offseason
  12. Collins ABs are few but more important far between. He needs to get consistent ABs in order to be able adjust. He isnt going to learn or develop at the plate getting 3 ABs a week. You cant get into any kind of rhythm that way. McCann will not resign here to be a backup. This is his one chance to get a good contract and to start. Given that, we need Collins as the backup next year. Hopefully he can keep developing to the point where he can catch 40 games a year.
  13. It would have been so perfect if he was a LHH. Right now, I want to see Collins DH against RHP everyday to see if he can be a viable major league power and OBP weapon if he gets consistent reps. We need to evaluate that issue before 2021 and right now he needs the reps. I agree with Parkman that EE should get a couple more series and if he cannot turn it on, its time to give someone else a shot at DH. As for Vaughn, while he is very advanced I still do not see a compelling benefit to calling him up now. It will still require a period of adjustment when he gets to the big leagues so i dont think he's gonna be an immediate 900 ops guy, so I'd rather get that extra year by calling him up in 2021.
  14. I wouldnt give up Dunning no matter what. He can very easily be our 3 and at least a 4. He has a higher floor than most of our pitchers and has good command. Law mentioned in a recent column that he continues to believe he should be a league average SP which is pretty valuable. Regarding Collins, I still like him (I am of course highly biased as a Univ of Miami fan) and he has a role next year as the backup. I think he'd be hitting more with more playing time. And his value would also go up once electronic strike zones eventually come into play. I would hold on to him for now. If EE doesn't turn it around, I'd like to see what he can do as an everyday DH vs RHP.
  15. How about Dalquist and a soft landing special assistant to the GM job for Eppler for Marsh?
