White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert
I'd be absolutely floored if they got BOTH Arroyo and Petty for Robert.

White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert
Collier has a great bat and id love to have him, but Getz isn't going to want 50 different 3B, imo I believe he is laser focused on SS and CF. Basically I think he is waiting for either CIN to agree to Arroyo or PHI to agree to Crawford, whichever blinks first.

There is if you're trying to give someone reason to absorb some of Beni's salary, unfortunately.

Except Elias is doing it out of ego and belief that he is smarter than everyone else (and he might in fact be smarter than everyone outside of LA and TB) whereas Getz is doing it out of necessity.

White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert
I know people don't like BTV but here is their SV estimates for Reds prospects of note (Reds are one of the "free" teams this week on their site)... Arroyo 13.7 Burns 24.7 Collier 12.2 Petty 12 Stafura 8.2 Stewart 8.2 If Getz and staff liked what they saw of Arroyo in the AFL and are convinced hes healthy, if these estimates are even roughly accurate, Arroyo should be gettable for Robert. If it's a salary issue for CIN, if you throw in 2-3m of the 15m maybe that will help too. We're still shedding 85% of Robert's salary and also the option years so JR should still be happy especially if you can get a cost controlled young SS that can stick.

Baseball Trade Values breakdown To BOS: Crochet 53.4 To CWS: Teel 32, Montgomery 15.2, Meidroth 6.6, Gonzalez 2.8 (56.6 total) I think it's a sign that Meidroth is 6.6. Does that mean he will be our organization's equivalent of Mario Lemieux? Perhaps @Chicago White Sox is onto something...

IMO Getz wants Arroyo from CIN. He is hellbent on adding a legit up the middle talent (SS or CF) because C. Montgomery probably won't stick and Robert will need to be replaced.

Thanks Garrett. Good luck in BOS. It was a pleasure watching you pitch this year and seeing you meet your potential as a LH ace.

Keith Law seems to like the trade for Chicago ALOT in his Athletic article. Summary of key points: If ankle injury has no lasting effects, Law believes Montgomery with all star upside. Ranked No. 4 on his draft big board. Extremely hard consistent contact, switch hitter that is more productive from left side. Some scouts question if he can hit RH but he thinks he can. 70 arm in RF with above average defense. Teel...above average regular or a little better, strong reciever with plus arm and moves very well behind the plate, bat is well above norm for position. Gonzalez likely a reliever because delivery will prevent him from having average control but if slider improves and he notes White Sox have a history of that, he could prove Law wrong. Meidroth is a good utility infielder due to OBP but lack of power or impact prevents being a regular unless he becomes plus defender at SS.

Maybe package Quero and Robert together for a club that needs C...try to get CF and SS back.

Yeah flip him to PHI for Crawford.

Agreed. People are resisting giving up Top 100 bats and we got two. Getz did well. Maybe move Quero for a bat at another position?

Teel and Montgomery is a good return, IMO. That's 2 Top 100 bats and Teel should be a longtime above avg LH catcher that will not just stick but be pretty good at that spot and can probably hit at the league average which is very good for a C. Montgomery will be a very good RF with a cannon arm and a savage LH bat as a switch hitter with very good power from the left side in particular. Good job Getz...you gotta give him his due.

If the idea is that Preller wants Crochet but doesn't want to give up Salas or De Vries, the Orioles would be a weird trade partner, because 1) we could just get prospects from them directly rather than making SD the middleman, 2) Elias isn't going to give up anything meaningful for 1 year of Cease if he wasn't willing to give up anything meaningful for 2 years of Cease and 3) the Orioles no longer seem to be a great fit for the Sox, the guys we were interested in last year are now accruing service time and are older and don't really fit our expected contention period (Cowser, Kjerstad etc) and/or are likely to end up at 1B (Mayo, Basallo) and the younger guys aren't really anything special so I don't see how making SD the middleman in order to send BAL prospects to CWS makes sense.

It's certainly possible it could be like last year when people tried to wait us out, but let's also keep in mind, supply has not yet dwindled in order to truly spark demand. Fried just now signed, so likely Burnes is next and once that happens, its going to be a game of musical chairs where everyone is trying frantically to decide whether to pay alot of money for SPs with question marks (Flaherty etc) or pay prospects for good pitching or get left out in the cold. The wheels are starting to turn so GMs now need to s%*# or get off the pot.

Excellent.....now we need Burnes to sign in SD or TOR.

If both Fried and Burnes go elsewhere, Getz might even be able to insist on Anthony.

Good we need Fried to NYY. Cashman has fans in pitchforks at the gate he needs to give them a shiny object to play with.

Make no mistake, this is exactly how JR wants it. You hire someone that no other self respecting organization would hire for a lateral role so you can a) lowball him on salary and b) ensure he will do exactly what he's told, because he has no other meaningful employment options unless he wants to go way down the totem pole. As JR once said, the savvy negotiator creates his own leverage. JR is an awful owner but unfortunately he's a pretty sharp guy.

Can't Jerry have him work with some professional in the field of public speaking (Toastmasters) so he can sound a little more polished? I mean this is an MLB GM. He doesn't have to sound like a lawyer like Hahn as you said but at least he should come across as not a stuttering clown. Oh wait I forgot....Jerry can't get someone who teaches public speaking skills to help him because that too would cost money. My bad what was I thinking.

White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert
I'm glad it's not just Getz saying there is legit interest. If they move Crochet to BOS for Mayer and Montgomery, hopefully they could move Robert to PHI for Crawford.

This was a quote from Craig Breslow on the Red Sox subreddit forum... We’ve asked a ton of our fans in terms of patience and tolerating finishes well below where the Red Sox should be. It’s time to deliver and that may mean taking a bite out of the future in order to prioritize what’s in the short term.” - Craig Breslow today There was also a seperate thread on that site where one of their writers said the only untouchables are Duran, Anthony and Campbell. Make of those two statements what you will...

More likely he isn't getting anything significant and is trying to create the impression of the opposite.

BA is not that important. For those of us not still stuck in the 50s and for those of us who dont spend most of our days yelling at kids to get off our lawn, OBP and SLG are better correlated with offensive production. And .274 isn't super great anyway, it's like a 55 hitter....far from the Mr. 3000 t-shirts your boy was wearing. Let's have him hit .315 to .320 a few years in a row and then we can talk.
