  1. Yeah I'm not sure how he got on top there and didn't hook it foul.
  2. Yes but who said anything about bunting when down? When you need one run, and one run only, bunting can increase your chances of scoring one run.
  3. What? Why? You think the Sox have some abnormal amount of unsuccessful attempts compared to the 5 teams ranked ahead of them? That's just not true.
  4. For example, a runner on 3rd base with one out has a 64% chance of scoring while a runner on second with no outs has a 61% chance of scoring.
  5. No it does not. All he calculates is expected runs scored. He is not calculating the likelihood of scoring just one run. Bunting decreases the possibility for a big inning skewing the expected runs down, but if your goal is to score just ONE run, bunting increases that.
  6. Home park, Oregon state has three really nice top 3 in their rotation - one of the best ones in conference and adley never has to face them. Despite the numbers Vaughn has actually hit the ball harder as well.
  7. For the record, bunting CAN increase your likelihood of winning late in a game more than not bunting. Bunting early in the game and bunting when you need more than one run is unacceptable though. That said, bunting does have the ability to increase your likelihood of scoring ONE run which, if that is all you need, means bunting does have a place
  8. I consider most team directed doctors - or recommended ones - to be a lot like HR is to a company. You may be sold that they are there to protect you and your rights but in reality, they are there to protect and enhance the companies future even if it comes at the expense of one or two individuals. My team doctors job was to get me on the field, not to ensure my arm or body feels good at 50 years old.
  9. Sure but it was sold as an opportunity to continue his career - his only one - and it effectively actually ended it and caused pain. This is no where near the Luol Deng nonsense so I don't even want to use that strawman but I'm curious as to your take on how the bulls handled that.
  10. Because at the end of the year, having played the red Sox will grade out as a difficult match-up but had you played them in April, it was actually an easier match-up than 99% of teams. The streaky nature of the game, and the limited scoring in baseball, means that there really isnt much difference at all between the easiest and hardest schedule in the league. When you play someone, who you face, the health of the team and etc pretty much normalize any SOS discrepancies and make SOS a pointless baseball stat.
  11. There may not be anything more worthless than MLB SOS when evaluating a team.
  12. A OPS+ of 110 for a guy with zero defensive or base running abilities is not a player who belongs in the big leagues. It's truly baffling that anyone still wants Palka around. He can't be a useful platoon because he has ZERO position.
  13. He always sucked. His stuff just isn't very good.
  14. Daniel Palka does not belong anywhere inside an MLB stadium if he doesn't buy his own ticket.
  15. Why would Daniel Palka ever play again?
  16. Adam Eaton played more games his final year with the Sox than he has played since. He's not getting younger. I wouldnt bet on him staying healthy, that's for sure.
  17. Eh, the players play hard for him and seem to respect him . That's like 90% of the manager impact in baseball. His in-game strategy sucks, but in-game strategy really has such a negligible impact on a baseball game it's just not that important to me.
  18. Sure, but obsessing over and enraging yourself about whether or not Ricky should bring in a pile or shit or a cockmeat sandwich out of the bullpen is pointless. You can criticize him for a lot of things, but the bullpen management just isn't one for me.
  19. I've said this a few times, but... NO ONE looks good managing a bad bullpen. The Sox bullpen is bad. No manager can make it good. When you only have 2 arms you can rely on out of your entire bullpen, there aren't a lot of good decisions to make and you can't abuse the two guys you do have. Especially given that they are assets moreso to the Sox than they are to a good team.
  20. apparently, when his pen is already short and awful, he was supposed to already have a pitcher warming up the minute jace fry came into the game - despite clearly hoping Fry would get him through the inning. just terrible takes.
  21. LOL Cooper has completely revamped his delivery from a clearly broken delivery at the end of his time with the Nats. This place loves to blame the coaches for everything that goes wrong and every mistake made, but they won't even give credit for a guy who has been rebuilt from scratch.
  22. Mental setback. My lord. He's a professional baseball player. If he can't handle an inkling of failure then he's done.
  23. Be critical of other short comings, sure, but LUCAS GIOLITO is NOT a 14 year old kid. Enough with this... let's let Gio leave on a high note. If the guy bounce back from giving up a base runner in the 8th inning of a 2-0 game then he is a loser. 105 pitches is not a crazy amount of pitches by any mean. Gio needs to learn to keep his delivery with some fatigue as well. Enough babying the guy. It was 105 pitches, not 150, and there was nothing wrong with letting him pitch to a batter in the 8th.
  24. His final pitch the inning before was 96 mph.
