Good stuff to hear. Interesting that the Sox tossed experience out the window, but they seemed down to Ozzie as the alternative. I think experience is overrated in baseball anyway, the pace is so slow a manager has time to think things through, and the concepts are pretty basic at the end of the day. The only problem with lack of experience is the inability to judge their quality with confidence..

Sure, why not. Hopefully the Sox don’t wait until only Ozzie is left in the green room. Because that would be the wrong way to hire Ozzie. That’s kind of why I don’t think it’s Ozzie. You can’t sell him if he’s like, an afterthought.

This year, the mountain came to Muhammad ?

The adverb I would use is thirsty. Not that I necessarily blame anyone for being thirsty at this point.

If upset means he was who I was hoping they would hire, then yeah, upset. The whole thing that is bordering on absurd levels is the idea that Latin players need a latin manager so much that it determines ultimate outcomes the field. That’s what is being implied with the whole situation. Reminds me of how NBA players supposedly play better for black head coaches

So far, not so much for the decision makers in the rooms with him

We fell in love with Espada because he is a Latino that interviewed a bunch of times. Unless we knew more than that. Seemed like it. What we knew Im not sure however when pressed.

English is fine

I replied earlier, but to clarify the full thought, this is correct. Players are responsible for themselves. You cannot expect a Spanish speaking manager to get a guy to focus on improving and then improving. That is done on the player side. There is no need to be concerned about the latino manager getting this team to play better if they speak English a second language. These guys are good pros or they aren’t.

What happened to Grifol?

Exactly. Hiring based on clown salvation is wagging the dog

The Sox are driving the Ozzie thing with interviews. It would be stupid and twitter driven if there were no interviews.
-
Its not going to be Ozzie, Greg. The Sox are likely not going to make anyone happy about any one thing.
-
Sort of. But OTOH, to hell with them if they need a latino manager to perform. And Im done worrying about catering to players that don’t perform

For the most part. He definately wasn't a raging apologist fior the bosses like Stoney. If anyone of us would have to talk for an hour of TV after every game you are bound to get on people's wrong side, and if Ozzie ever did, God forbid. For the most part, Ozzie was on the sober side of watching this team operate. I was a skeptic too, but I think as said above, outside this board there would be some happy enough people in town. And lets not forget that hiring brand new managers has a pretty poor success rate. I will be hopeful and be offering a clean slate.

That's funny. But again, I don't see the need to be overly negative about this. The game has changed, and I'm reasonably sure he's young enough, and attentivre enough to understand what's going on with it. Like, do I believe he is going to have a modern lineup that bunts all the time based on what happened decades ago, I don't.
-
I'll just say that while I don't have him at the top of my list, maybe he isn't even on my list. But at the same time I have no reason to believe he won't do a good job with this team. Unless you count not being able to deal well with the dysfunctional YoYo's in the office. In which case there are't any other options that have a good chance of succeeding. either.
