Am I missing something???
Legitimate concerns, gosox. You made me cringe thinking about it being cold next April and the team sucking again. That would suck. I personally think we need to keep Mark, Vazzy and Jon as a solid threesome, at least on paper a solid threesome. But I guess Garland is gone from what everybody is saying. He needs to overhaul the bullpen and needs to let Erstad walk. We do not need or want Erstad. We need 2 new middle relievers; we need a new ss not named Eckstein. We need Hunter. I love Rowand but he had a pretty amazing season in Philly and I can see the meltdown coming if he has a bad April and May from Sox fans on here. He might actually be due for a down year. He's been good since leaving here. And we have been awful bad since he left. I would say the odds of the team sucking again are much greater than the odds of being a .550 team.

September 29th: Detroit vs. Chicago
I'm with you Seal. I never thought I'd have to defend winning, either. But it's been going on a month or more now. Amazing.

September 29th: Detroit vs. Chicago
Exactly. Great post. Tizzle I can't believe you called the fans idiots. Basically anybody who doesn't hold your position on this matter is an idiot, right? If the White Sox sat all their veteran players this past month to get a draft pick, in my mind the commissioenr would be right in banishing the team from the league. It would be as bad as the Black Sox scandal. How come fans at the park are cheering when we win?? Because they paid good money and want to see a win. They want to see Paulie and Thome homer. Tizzle, you are not god. People have the right to disagree with you or do you not see it that way?

Forgive the repeat question, but could somebody give me Ozzie's email address? Thanks very much. I always forget to save it when somebody posts it.

White Sox, A.J. Pierzynski agree on two-year extension
I don't know why everybody wants Jon gone. I know the money, but losing Garland will assure us being a noncontender. We'll have two decent starters in Mark and Vazzy and question marks in the next three. You don't win pennants without good starting pitching. And our bullpen currently is the worst in baseball except for Bobby. Jon, Mark and Vazzy would be a decent threesome. I don't see how they can have just two reliable starters, I'm assuming Jose is gone. He's too old. If they truly bring Myers back, that could be the nail in Kenny's coffin. That guy is finished. He cannot pitch.

White Sox, A.J. Pierzynski agree on two-year extension
I'm glad they resigned him. Like Dick Allen said we do need somebody to step up behind him so AJP can be rested more vs. lefties. But all in all he's a pretty good hitter.

Bobby Freakin Jenks
I don't think it's crazy to ask the question. a.) There's never much new discussion on here except the perceived value of a No. 1 draft pick versus winning at all costs. b.) I think the fact he has 40 saves and that incredible consecutive out streak and doing it on a horrible team is even more impressive than if it would have been a good team. I don't think he should win it, but my point and hope was that he would be in the discussion. At any rate ... great year, Bobby. --Colorado beat Oklahoma today; Kansas State leads Texas by 10 at half; I believe MSU was leading Wisconsin as well in second quarter.

2007 Post ASB White Sox Catch-All Thread
It's neat that there's been no discussion of the Cubs clinching on the Sox board. I assume you are all like me, shrug of the shoulders and who cares. Since we won it all two years ago I could care less if they win it all. It will not bother me either way. We got there first.

Bobby Freakin Jenks
Considering Bobby's 40 saves and his sensational record-setting streak of consecutive outs recorded, I was wondering ... should Bobby receive votes for AL Cy Young winner? I think he should. He was outstanding all year long.

Thome Season Total
Numbers mean everything in baseball and Thome now has had a very good year. He drove me crazy like everybody else in making tons of outs when the season was not yet over, but numbers don't lie. He had a very good year.

If the Sox would have missed the playoffs in 2005 would you be calling
I'll play the hypothetical game. Yes I'd probably be calling for his head if we hadn't reached the Series at least in 05. Because like Yossarian said, the team appears on the verge of insignificance. However, KW DID lead the team to a world championship. To me, firing him or Oz this season would have been cruel and inhuman. I mean Chicago does not win baseball championships (if the Cubs win it all this year they can thank us for paving the way; the Cub routs of the Sox this year turned that team around twice). So yes if the Sox had not made the WS in 05 I'd probably be calling for his head and likely Oz's as well. But he did win it all and that may even get him one more year in my eyes to show he has a plan for a return to prominence. Winning it all should mean something. KW and Oz can't go from world champs to guys without a job in 2 years.

September 28th: Chicago vs. Detroit
Just to let you know ... I am laughing as hard at you "draft guys" as you are laughing at me. You are aggravated with playing three veterans in our final home series? Uh ... maybe the f***ing fans who pay top dollar to go to the games want to see these three players and do not care about the f***ing baseball draft. Have you ever thought of that? I myself love the fact Thome homered again tonight and Vazzy again is pitching well. I could care less about the June draft but I care greatly about tonight's game and beating the f***ing Tigers. You people that want to lose, I mean not to be disrespectful, but tanking in games makes me sick. You play a game, you should want to win. If not, why have sports at all. f*** THE DRAFT!!!! GO SOX!!!

Lance Broadway
Great post. Very informative on what you saw out of Broadway. I think it's dangerous to deal Jon, but that's just me. I would not trust Danks/Flod/Gio/Egbert. Hopefully we'll get some new long relievers if our rotation consists of just 2 reliable starters and a bunch of unknowns.

September 27th: Kansas City vs. Chicago
Yeah, it was nearly perfect for me. They got the 11-0 right, but the Royals got three hits. Bummer, but I'll take the 11-0. Think I'll go grab a beer to celebrate. Very nice win and hopefully we can finish ahead of the pissants royals.

September 27th: Kansas City vs. Chicago
Moving runners over, veterans hitting, good pitching, if they'd played like this all year they'd have won the pennant again. GO SOX!

This year's worst
I go with MacDougal because his early implosion helped set the tone for this horrific bullpen. I also despise Uribe's season for some reason. He sucked.
-
September 27th: Kansas City vs. Chicago
I'd like to see an 11-0 Sox win and a no hitter by Lance. Or an 11-8 win and have Bobby get another save. Three homers by Fields would be nice as well.

Grade the Sox
My grades for "this year" only. Mark Buehrle: B-plus Javier Vazquez: B-plus Jose Contreras: D, I wouldn't argue F. Jon Garland: B Jon Danks: C, I wouldn't argue C-. Bobby Jenks: A-plus. Mike MacDougal: F David Aardsma: F Boone Logan: B- Ehren Wasserman: B Mike Myers: F Matt Thornton: F Ryan Bukvich: F AJP: C-minus Paul Konerko: C-minus Jim Thome: A-minus Iguchi: C- Richar: C- Juan Uribe: D to D- Josh Fields: A-minus or B-plus Scott Pods: C- Erstad: D Jermaine Dye: C Jerry Owens: B, I probably should give him an A- for good rookie numbers. Toby Hall: F Andy Gonzalez: F Alex Cintron: D-minus Buckwich - F. Ozzie Guillen: D (not a good year for Oz though I love him) Kenny Williams: F (horrible year for KW though I like him) The Fans: A The team, which is most important: A resounding F. A total embarrassment of a season. The veterans with the exception of the starting pitchers failed miserably when it mattered if we had runners. Absoultely no team speed again until Owens played and he didn't hit much until lately when it appears he just might be a damn good player. All the veteran hitters did was strand runners when it mattered. The bullpen was one of the worst in modern Sox history if not baseball history. The managing was poor as Oz couldn't motivate the troops this time. The general managing was awful as KW made all the wrong moves. Terrible decision to bring in Erstad, horrible calls on the bullpen. Disgraceful season. Fans deserve credit for showing up all year.

He ain't killing me. 33 home runs and counting! Way to go, Jimmy. You've put together a fine season stat-wise after all.

2007 Post ASB White Sox Catch-All Thread
I thought the same think, Squirt. Of course many vocal people on this board wish we would have lost all the games to the Cubs, then we'd have gotten a higher draft pick. Admit it, several of you wish we'd gotten swept by the Cubs, right?

Royals @ White Sox Game Thread 9/26
Getting rid of Jon Garland is not necessarily a way to become a contender again. Have you noticed all the bad pitchers in baseball today? If I was a GM I would want Garland over a lot of other pitchers. It's easy to take guys you have on your team for granted. Garland is not half bad. Tell me, who do you want in the rotation next year? If you say Danks, Floyd, Gio, Haeger etc., you are looking at a lot of 5 inning outings.

Mike Myers Signs/ Andy Gonzalez optioned to Charlotte
Exactly, Dick Allen. Hopefully KW will realize the guy is a slug and eat the contract. I truly believe I could get a base hit off Myers. Yes, I'm a righthanded hitter.

Royals @ White Sox Game Thread 9/26
Now that's the way to handle a s***ty team!! Great job Garland!! Tremendous victory. I didn't realize Owens had 30 plus stolen bases. That, if true, is a lot. Maybe he is the answer. GO SOX!!!! Keep on Winning!!!!

Royals at White Sox
I'm not whining, I'm pissed we lost. Pissed we're behind KC. And you have no right to tell me what to do. So lay off. I'm embarrassed we are worse than KC. It means something to me. Who cares about a no name draft pick.
