  1. Meidroth appears to be the real deal. Bring up Elko while the Sox are sizzling for gosh sakes. Elko's presence might finally wake up Vaughn. The Sox passed rock bottom a long time ago it appears. The new manager obviously is way better than what we've had.
  2. I think the Sox are going to win way more games than last year. When you are as bad as the Sox have been, the opponents just can't get up for us. Instead of sweeping the Sox, they win 2 of 3 or 3 of 4. Eventually Sox are gonna start winning some series maybe even sweep a couple. Again, when you are this bad over a period of time, the opponent just can't get up for you. Nice win today. Getting Meidroth back helps our lineup and Robert is starting to emerge. Is Burke for real? Nice win.
  3. Glad to see Bill mentioned. He still lives in Lawrence, Ks. He even lived here most of the time during that multi-year stretch he had with the Red Sox. ... I will never forget Bill in his yearly Baseball Abstract (in which he rated and had a comment about every player in the game which was neat) said flat out the cliche that a slugger needed someone to "protect" him in the order was bunk. Let's say Big Hurt batted fourth. According to cliche, it was vital that Hurt had a stellar hitter batting fifth in the order so in theory the pitcher would have to pitch to Frank out of fear of facing the strong No. 5 hitter who was protecting Hurt because of that player's status as a studly hitter. James said it made no difference at all and throughout life I've gotten in many arguments arguing the point.
  4. So our favorites have lost three in a row and four of five. Not good. Just studying the box score seemed like that was a very dull game. Was it? We did get 10 hits. Should win on nights we get 10 hits; won't happen too often.
  5. Young kids with great ability in 2-3 sports should not pick baseball. For hitters, the lift and pull b.s. ruins them. The old days being able to hit line shots to all fields was way good enough. Not now. Lift and pull baby and if you whiff it's OK. Pitching? We all know what happens to pitchers now. 1-900-callthesurgeonnow.
  6. Trade the poor kid. Let a real organization help him re-start his pro career. For the Sox to make this move, he's definitely hit rock bottom with the inept organization. Somebody will take him for 2 average prospects.
  7. Yeah before long every pitcher will go 1-2 innings max. More boring baseball as the pitcher will have an amazing fastball to go with the sweeper/slider as the out pitch. Lot more lefty/righty matchup b.s.
  8. Could an opener start two or three games in a row in a playoff series? If he works just one inning? I wonder if we'll ever get to that point.
  9. I see. Thanks ... Interesting we have a smart manager who thinks of such things. Even my guy, Ozzie, wouldn't mess with such minutia. I like it. To Lip ... I haven't watched any games. Are they deathly boring compared to even last year cause of the 3-run stat you've mentioned?
  10. Two tough losses in the three game series. Does the fact the Sox have gone to openers mean the Sox starters are historically bad and can only go 3 max?
  11. Frustrating. Maybe we'll at least spend as much as KC and Minnie.
  12. At some point he's gonna be as beloved as Salvy in KC. So the new owners will keep him IMO. Jerry's family can't hold onto this team forever.
  13. Sox are on their way. Quero is the next Salvy Perez. He's only 22 and raking. He ain't going anywhere for 10 years. Now we got a SS in Workman. This Cannon guy turns in a performance. With Quero's emergence this team is already better than last year's wretched squad. When Elko comes up, another bat.
  14. Good point about all the guys who have gotten in trouble legally. Seems to be a lot of them in sports allowed to compete.
  15. I was thinking about Sanders. The NFL made its point in overlooking him this long. Tomorrow, the first team that needs a QB or a good backup/potential starter someday should take him. Why? Well if he goes undrafted he'll still get an offer to go to somebody's camp as a rookie free agent. So if somebody's gonna work with him at all, which will be the case if he's a free agent acquisition even, might as well draft him in case, uh, he's special. I will say this: If I were a head coach and wasn't convinced Shadeur is the next big thing, I sure as hell wouldn't want to have to deal with him. Not saying he's a bad kid/guy, but he definitely has a HUGE ego and I simply wouldn't want to deal with him. I'd beg my GM, "You're not gonna stick me with Deion's kid are you?" But again ... somebody's gonna sign him whether he gets drafted at all, so a team in need might as well get him drafted. He's got to be at least worthy of 4th round.
  16. That's pretty good progress. Don't think they are gonna lose 120. More like 101.
  17. Tough loss actually. That last at bat, by Robert, was typical of his career. Wave at the slop. A contending team would NOT want Luis Robert IMO. He can't hit, folks.
  18. Maybe our manager is better or the fact we've already tried a lot of different players this year but Sox seem better than last year. Quero and maybe Palacios look intriguing of late. And like somebody said our division appears worse.
  19. I haven't followed their stories yet. Still can't believe we only have five wins so far. Seems like the team has played better than that. You have to admit, however, this pitching staff is way worse than last year's which is kinda scary in terms of total wins cause our starters are limited to about 4 innings and change.
  20. Is this Palacios guy a good acquisition? How the heck did we acquire him. He got on base two of four times tonight. Nice.
  21. I once had a bowling teacher at KU named Mr. Boozer. He had a deal. If you agreed to a three game series head to head against him he would give you an A for the course if you beat him. If you lost you had to take he and his wife out for a steak dinner. Legend has it only 2 people tried. Both lost and had to feed Mr. Boozer and Mrs. Boozer. Addendum to story: My grandmother died as finals approached. Popular excuse but it happened to be true. I had to go to Chicago for the funeral of course. All my teachers believed me and let me reschedule final or they just gave me an A. Only one who didn't believe me was Mr. Boozer. I said: "Sir bowling is fun. Why in the world would I lie to get out of a bowling final?" He said, "Good point. I believe you. Your A will stand but I would feel better if you brought me back proof you actually were at a funeral: i.e. the funeral program." Peace out. I am rooting for the Sox Booser in memory of Mr. Boozer.
  22. Pity the Royals. They haven't been able to feast on Chicago, hence their record in April has been abysmal. The Sox really do affect the pennant races depending on who they play and when.
  23. Beni is our only good hitter (even tho he's around .240). I don't believe in Robert. He's another flop like Moncada and Eloy. I'd like Beni to be my leadoff hitter if I was a contending manager. Yeah a bit overpaid but the guy's gonna hit between 20 and 25 homers, knock in a lotta runs if he bats sixth. Maybe his arm blows and will cost u games there. But Beni is the only guy on this team I currently like cept for Mr. Meidroth of course. Each and every pitcher is a LOL to me. Maybe Quero will be likeable soon. p.s. Eloy has one HR in 88 at bats in Durham this season. Yikes.
  24. Do the Sox beat the Twins or officiallly let them end their losing ways against us again like last year? Sox like to give Central teams hope.
