Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.
greg775 replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What do you mean? Batting average? Who cares about that outdated stat? He looks good in CF and strikes out a lot. Increase his contact lift and pull rate a bit and he'll be fine. He's got the K's part down now he just has to elevate more. -
Man, our pitching suddenly imploded today. Cubs got some good wood on the meat our guys were delivering. Little surprised we got boatraced, however, no Elko. WTF. Give me more Elko.

JR seems like a guy who would get a recommendation from his GM to acquire a player and without discussion just writes "NO, DENIED" in big letters on the memo. But get rid of a salary of $20 mill no matter the player the memo comes back "YES" but tell me more about the players we are acquiring and their earnings." -
Not many people quit high paying jobs. Don't understand the hate. We should forgive him for flaws considering he works for JR the worst owner in sports history maybe.

And that's a 4-2 White Sox Winner for three in a row!

I guess I'd prefer a public apology or dressing down from the commissioner reprimanding the Sox at least the day they do trade Robert and any other of our future stars like Quero and Elko. -

Lip are you as appalled as me with the teams that refuse to attempt to compete? Reinsdorf should invest his money in other areas if he refuses to compete in MLB. Sell the team and invest in other areas. -

Not me. There's something to be said about his value now in entertaining the hard paying fans who go to games. What's wrong with paying him good money for the joy he can bring NOW? At Rate Field NOW??? We should be outraged we have to talk about money so much with Jerry's team. Pay the man and let the fans have some fun on summer nights 2025 instead of being zombies wondering why they paid to attend a Sox game. Pay and play baby! And be outraged at Jerry 24/7. The fans pay good money; management should pay some money as well to assure fans some FUN. Why is my position so outrageous to some? It's not our money to pay Robert. It's cheap Jerry's responsibility to pay a few guys so we can win. -

There should be Luka-like outrage if what you say happens. You are saying basically the Sox don't deserve to have a team in MLB. Cause their goal is not entertaining the fans (Robert's catches and occasional bombs) and it certainly isn't winning/contending. This is not what sports are about. I enjoyed your post. It was informative for me, thank u. But this franchise? If its goal is to do the things you said in your post, shame on them and shame on baseball for allowing this to happen. And thanks for saving me my 100 bucks. I will not renew mlb.com just yet after reading that. -

I meant Caulfield when will the "tankers" outwardly embrace having a star player to root for 10-15 years again like the old days (cough, Buehrle, cough) and Fisk and Baines and Durham and Robin and Ozzie, etc. I want continuity and not archaic tank stuff which does not work. -

This guy is healthy (knock on wood) and looking like a star. Why in the hell would anybody want to trade him except one who is a fan of the archaic "tanking." (See Dallas Mavericks; no need to tank, still got the pick). Seriously when are some of u gonna mentally allow yourselves to want a Sox player for say, 10-15 years like Konerko and Abreu? -

Look folks. I can be as negative as anybody. But I'm here to tell you. The painful weeks are over. The Sox with Meidroth, Quero and this no name pitching staff led by what must be an awesome pitching coach, is a decent team. This team conceivably could play .500 the rest of the way. What I'm telling you is if Vaughn and Robert would actually emerge, and Beni get healthy, our team can actually contend. Wake up Robert ... start mashing like a superstar. Vaughn, cmon. Lead us to more victories. This team is no longer a doormat, baby. Just think if Elko hits AND Robert and Vaughn awaken for good. ... Hate to break it to some of the tank lovers ... no reason to trade Robert. ... And by the way I heard one of the national talk show yappers say the NBA commish DESPISES tanking and says it's against all tenets of what sports are supposed to be. The tanking, baby, is over. KEEP ROBERT and keep winning. Trying to decide if and when I relent and return to mlb.com. -
Is he a good politician? I'm not too high on politicians.

Who is dat? Dennis DeYoung? I love Styx first known as TW4 and would play Rice dances.
-
We don't have a ton of famous alumni at Rice. St. Rita now has the most famous alum or teacher, whatever title you choose in Pope Leo. We have Reilly plus Kevin Cronin, Ed Olczyk, David Diehl, Pete Mackanin, Rico Hill, Michael Massey. That's about it. I'd go with Cronin and Ed as 1-2 in Rice history.

Great win. May record is 6-6? Wow. The worst days are behind us. It's obvious this team is better even with a lotta no-name players. Vargas, Quero and Sosa 7 hits between 'em. We must have a good pitching coach whoever he is. This staff blows on paper but excels in reality. The paper bag days are gone. Sox can compete and yes I still think other teams can't get up for our team cause of how bad the squad has been the past couple seasons. That and improved play and better managing means .500.

As expected, I see some media are scouring over all the past tweets of the delightful Pope brothers trying to get them canceled. I knew I'd only get two days to enjoy the happy, inspiring, positive coverage of the Pope, his bros, and the great city of Chicago.

5/11 Sox-Marlins (Happy Mother’s Day)
greg775 replied to Milkman delivers's topic in 2025 Season in Review
No offense, and I am not a Royals fan as evidenced by my attending 2 games total the past four seasons, but why do they win once in a while the old fashioned way? Ditto Detroit for gosh sakes and Minnie. All tiny markets. You can't tell me we're THAT poor we can't compete with those woebegone franchises. And yes, Lip, I realize Jerry won't open the wallet. But cmon even you Lip must be furious that we have to trade anybody with a pulse in hopes we land somebody with a stellar heartbeat who can help us win it all in about a 3 year window before they must be traded. This ain't the way to run any business. -

Dang it we're never going to contend again if we keep playing the trade game. Saddens me more than maddens me. ... Can't we just enjoy a hot streak of Vaughn, the emergence of Elko and Meidroth and Quero and the Pope? -

Nancy Faust plays na na on his home run trot. My gosh what a day. The Sox are back. If Beni was healthy the lineup at least would be way more potent than before. Elko and Nancy Faust. Wow. And the Pope. -
Those were the days. Caring enough to be mad after a game. Has been a long time since I actually cared about the Sox final score. Thanks Jerry and everybody for getting this team to the point of total irrelevance. Highlight of this season will be learning the Pope is a Sox fan.

Shouldn't we just acknowledge all managers are about the same. None of 'em know what they are doing really.

These interviews with the two brothers are a riot. "He's my younger brother. When I see him I'm going to take off his hat and give him a noogy." My gosh that's one of the greatest quotes of all time. It seems the Pope was calling his one brother after he got named Pope and the brother had missed two of the Pope's calls. The brother said he was with media all day and he said 'congratulations,' and the pope said 'thank you' and hung up cause he 'wasn't ready for any of that (media)."

5/9 Sox vs. Marlins 6:40PM - Beginning of the Pope era

Elko, Vaughn, Robert ... are wins coming? Easy win tonight vs. Miami. -
Good points, Milk. I was just thinking on a light note: Think of the trips the Pope makes around the world and a lot of times he makes himself available in Rome to chat with groups that visit or priests and even the masses, the public. I'm just going by my vision of the Pope all these years, stoic, somber, blessing people, listening intently, never getting up and doing anything crazy like the Trump dance. What will it be like when regular people in line say to him, "Do you miss that. Chicago pizza and beef?" Or "How bout those White Sox?" Or "who is your favorite Bears player of all time: Wasn't Butkus just great?" How it the pope gonna handle being from America and now having to interact with Americans who stand in line to meet him? I doubt he feels it's too proper to discuss his favorite italian beef and sausage places or his opinion of Leo High School and is that why he picked the name Leo. Wat u think. Will there be too much a temptation to ask the Chicago pope Chicago things?

Amazing that the original fake news report was he was a Cub fan. So the initial reporter had a 50 percent chance of getting it right instead said he was a Cub fan. WGN reached his brother who said he was a SOX fan. Geez, get it right the first time. It's going to be so strange to have a pope from the USA. I wonder if it's sacriligeous to throw out the first ball. Popes often seem so stoic and prim and proper.
