  1. The area around Comiskey will never get redeveloped into a baseball zone. So move it to suburbia and make it a complex with the Bears. Make it a one of a kind destination area with roller coasters, etc. Maybe even renew the old dogtrack/racetrack concept out there too, or soccer.
  2. Is Colson Montgomery going to be the best No. 22 overall pick in history? Proves there's no need to tank when you can get this talent at 22. My gawd he is amazing. That HR tonight was crushed.
  3. No way. The Sox hat is perfect. The Sox logo is perfect. Just because our team has been an embarrassment has nothing to do with our hat and perfect jerseys. Changing the beautiful Sox logo would be the most ridiculous decision in Chicago sports history. That'd be like asking the Cubs to completely switch their logo. The Sox logo and uniform is in the top two in baseball with the Yankees. I do realize the Sox abandoned it with the block lettering Sox years ago when our unis looked like the Astros. But cmon. Don't mess with the traditional Sox uni.
  4. If you are a GM in the small market Central Division it's unacceptable to not try to "win soon,"
  5. Hey Harry and all the Rice grads: Is Bro Rice projected to be good this year in football and/or basketball? Special? Or will we revert back to mediocrity? Any additions on the recruiting/transfer trail? Thanks for the info. I actually may be in Chicagoland this year on a weekend in October but don't think I'll be able to make a game.

The good news is all pitchers in modern day MLB are about the same. Flamethrowers who get Tommy John surgery then return. Not sure why any team lets a starter go five. The analytics zealots certainly would tell you you'd be better off throwing max of 1.5 to 2 innings then move onto the next pitcher.
  7. Ozzie was saying on the postgame show 20 mill is nothing nowadays. Jerry is so wrong for this line of work. The owners caused this salary escalation mess dating to when Steinbrenner had to have all the good players and upped the ante. If you can't pay the ridiculous salaries, sell Jerry, sell. 20 mill for Robert is pocket change nowadays.

This is alarming cause I thought we had pitching in the minors. As high as I am on the young additions to the everyday lineup, I still think the Sox need pitching. Jerry may have to spend.
  9. Lineup is emerging as a decent one. Let's spend some cold hard cash and build a pitching staff. There are so few good relievers in baseball nowadays. Try to find a few and add 2 experienced starters. Work on the pitching since the lineup is contention worthy.

That's a joke about Getz right? He could be up for GM of the year if we continue to win the second half. The lesser knowns he acquired for this season turned out much better than the Lopez, Pham, DeBong's of last year. Also his no name pitching staff isn't the worst in all of baseball.
  11. Angels stink; Sox are good; Getz will be declared a genius someday it appears. Go for the sweep.
  12. I have to throw the advanced metric WAR stat out the window. My eye test tells me he was our all star this year if Tauchmann didn't have enuf at bats. A contender is dumb to not pick up Beni unless they concerned about his arm costing 'em games.
  13. I still say Beni is a fine ballplayer. 14 homers now. Excellent player IMO. Weak arm but so what?
  14. True dat, but he's the best we've got in terms of being the most legitimate-looking star player (aside from Colson who is amazing right out of the gate). It's not our money and Jerry saving whatever he'd save in dumping Robert is not gonna mean anything to him or any of us. He stays very rich; fans don't get a discount if he leaves.
  15. Good for the Sox keeping Robert. Not having one legitimate possible veteran "star" on a MLB team is just flat out wrong for a city like Chicago. Colson is a star, yes, and some other young hitters look star-ish, but cmon, to have a major league franchise you need to show you are half-buttedly at least, trying to win games and please fans. Robert on paper is a special player, at least defensively. He can't even consistently get two hits every 10 at bats but he's still got star potential on paper. I agree with the decision completely.
  16. Mead sounds good. They should call him "Lake." Simple nickname. Tauchmann deserves our praise not scorn. He's almost hitting .300 which puts him at No. 18 overall in AL. He is a stud.
  17. Probably cause owners want their own guys. But Getz working with no funds has a totally wreck of a team now just a little bit below average team (with horrible pitching talent and more but still not enuf excellent bats). Not bad job by Getz.
  18. Getz is gonna have a job a LONG time in Chicago if the Sox are as solid as they've been playing. LONG suffering fans may not have to wait much longer. ... p.s. Sox are winning at a good clip even with a pitching staff of ALL no names. Nobody's heard of any of these guys.
  19. He raked again tonight. This is probably the first time as a big leaguer he's been relaxed and having fun. Happy for him. It makes you wonder why he was pretty pedestrian to awful in Chicago.
  20. Is 34 old now in baseball or not? Some national writer should do a long study on the issue and report back. Dye was 37 when he retired. Konerko was 38; Ventura 37, Guillen 36, Dick Allen 35, Billy WIlliams 38, George Brett 40, Big Hurt 41.
  21. I thought Jerry abhors eating salary and won't do it often if ever.
  22. Montgomery is such a natural hitter. He's one of those guys who does better in the majors than the minors. Good thing nobody gave up on him for minor league stinkage. He can flat out hit the baseball where they ain't. Including over the fence. He and Meidroth and Quero should be around a long time.
  23. The team is light years better than last year's abomination but I hear your point. I was talking to a diehard Sox fan of many decades this week and I asked him if he would go to a game this seasons if he got free tix and he said no. Total diehard fan. Said it's not worth the risk of having a terrible time in a blowout. ... By the way, I don't care what anybody says, Beni is a good hitter. I mean the Royals started Pham in the playoffs last year. Pham is nowhere near as good a hitter as Beni. I know his BA still is under .240 but nobody cares about BA. Beni can hit folks.
  24. Past trade update: Andrew Vaughn on fire with the Brew Crew. He's just mashing the baseball. That would be cool if he became another Tatis. Pity the White Sox in terms of developing players.
  25. He deserves the Hall of Fame just based on that. He hit all kinds of home runs. Roof shots, high towering HR to RC, the only home run in Comiskey's little RC area out there. Using that incredibly long bat ... that memorable batting stance little kids copied. He deserves the Hall on style alone. I remember when he hit the homer to RC in Comiskey. What an amazing HR.
