  1. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 09:42 PM) This could turn out to be the worse bullpen in the history of the franchise. Trading David Robertson was nuts. On paper this is a miserable bullpen. Nate and Soria are very bad and they are the best of the bunch. Sign Holland or lose 105 games
  2. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 06:38 PM) You're only looking at one year's worth of data....and even then, his second half was a lot better than his first half, even with a bad September: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...mp;t=b#all_half I'm just trying to use the same standards regarding Avi and Abreu as Hosmer and Manny. For instance except for Hosmer's defense, Abreu looks like the better employee. Avi and Manny are about the same age and one is considered a god and the other a blah.
  3. What about Manny Machado's stat line last season makes him worth all the money he's going to get? If he has an off year it should be interesting to see the excuses of fans still wanting to pay him 30 mill a year. Last year .259, 33, 95 RBI. His OBP .310 with 50 walks against 115 strikeouts. Since everybody's talking Avi's BABIP, what does Manny's suggest for this year? Decline? Or he's going to be great? I mean I like Machado's traditional stats OK enough. .259 is blah. But at a similar age, Avi hit .330 with 18 HRs, 80 RBI. 33 walks, 111 Ks. Avi's BA was much higher, Manny's HRs and RBIs greater. Manny had more than 100 more at bats. Hosmer, who is considered a god and about to make 20 mill or more year hit .318, 25 HRS, 94 RBI, 66 BBs, 104 Ks. He's about to enter his age 28 season and wants 8 years. Abreu hit .304 with 33 HR, 102 RBI and .354 OBP with 35 walks, 115 Ks and he's entering age 31 season. Arguably he's better production than Hosmer only 3 years older.
  4. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 07:43 PM) Yeah for sure. And looking at the free agent tracker, you have Morrison, Melky (teammates seemed to like him), Bautista, Duda, Ethier, and Carlos Gonzalez (rotate between DH and OF) just to name some. I wouldn't mind Davidson getting a chunk of the at bats (he'll still get a decent amount between 3B/1B/DH and based on what other positions a new primary DH can play) but I wouldn't be mad if they signed someone else. Or depending on what else comes over, a deal for Kemp. Good point about Melky. If the Sox truly were going to go after a Kemp-like DH, you'd think they'd just sign Melky for a year or two. It's pretty odd that so many players have yet to sign. It's getting late. Normally teams are pretty set by now, just a couple weeks out. Hosmer and Moustakas need to sign with somebody as well as a ton of other guys as you mentioned. Melky isn't that old and he doesn't have a job yet. I guess there are so many rebuilding teams a lot of veterans are going to be surprised when they get zero offers.
  5. QUOTE (Real @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 01:41 AM) SANDERS didn't have the name recognition nor had the corporate media behind him. We also know that Clinton literally funded the DNC herself and had all of the strings of power. Exactly. Bernie had no chance because accept it or not, the DNC and Hollywood and everybody on the liberal side wanted to coronate Hillary President because it was her time, her turn, her career achievement award. Bernie may have had a tough time winning it all because of the Socialist tag but he wasn't given a fair shake. In a way I don't blame the Democrats. You'd think anybody, any candidate, could beat Trump. So give Hillary her achievement award and let her claim what was rightfully hers in terms of coronation. I think Bernie had time to win more people over and I do think Bernie would have beaten Trump. He had a lot of momentum with the youngsters who loved him. Just as Trump mania was understated in the media, so was Bernie mania. I remember Hillary spoke in KC before the election and they couldn't fill bartle Hall. Half full maybe. Meanwhile Bernie came to Lawrence and the building was sold out and lines around the block. DNC didn't give Bernie a chance to sweep the country with Bernie mania cause of the aforementioned reasons.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 09:27 PM) the replies on Ken Rosenthals tweet about this are so stupid. PEOPLE SHOULDNT BE ON THEIR PHONES THEN THEY WOULD BE FINE. Come on now, little kids have been hit by foul balls and bats, and it has had nothing to do with a phone. True, about the little kids getting hit and others just simply not paying attention. However we could start a whole thread on phones. I drove thru campus today and counted 60 percent of all students were on their phones while walking. Six out of 10 is about right. It's crazy how to millenials and those under 25 how their whole worlds are tied into the phone. It's pretty crazy when six out of 10 students on a very cold day were walking on campus using their phone.
  7. Davidson/Delmonico would make sense, especially if we still are trying to lose. Not trying to be a smart ass. Why add some veteran slugging DH. Let the kids bat and if we lose, we lose. Addendum: (My stance hasn't changed. I like to win, but I've accepted the rebuild).
  8. ESPN the Mag has a good article on Nasser. It seems to me he could have been stopped a long time ago. Very very sad. My heart goes out to the gymnasts and I hope they can go on to lead fulfilled lives despite this creep violating them and removing their innocence as little girls. He is a rat. I don't wish for him to be beaten in prison. I'd prefer him be in solitary forever. Or just one hour a day near people; 23 to think about what he did.
  9. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 10:19 PM) Would anyone had noticed if they did this but didn't announce it or put out a press release? That is a fantastic post. Now that I think about it, they should have not even put out a press release. Just don't use Chief Wahoo and move on. Excellent take.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 08:33 AM) This was exactly what Trump and Fox News (certainly after the bloom wore off the rose in 2010) were calling Obama, or worse. Let's not forget that Trump wouldn't even acknowledge for many years that Obama was an American citizen, nor had he the right to be president. Or the times that they said Obama wasn't patriotic simply because he didn't wear an American flag lapel pin. "THIS GUY" was a much more racist term in many parts of the US that refused to believe that an African-American was in charge of their country for the first time after 220 years of white males. Don't you remember "YOU LIE!!!" being shouted at him during a SOTU speech by Representative Joe Wilson, Greg? Remember I miss some of the political stuff. I thought "this guy" sounded weird coming out of Matthews' mouth. It was like some peon announcer on TV was taking a stand refusing to call Trump the President or by his name. I thought it was disrespectful. Not trying to compare to Obama perhaps because I liked Obama. If you say Obama to me I think "White Sox fan" and I think "class act." He is a classy guy IMO. Say "Trump" to me and really I think of the word "chump." QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 02:37 PM) I think it's time I block greg, his posts absolutely make my blood boil. It is not my intent to anger you. Pardon me for thinking "that guy" was weird on a TV show coming out of Matthews' mouth. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 04:05 PM) You are right greg. People didn't refer to Obama as "this guy". If they had, it would have been a compliment. They called him much, much worse. Then they should be ashamed. At least show some respect to the guy "we" elected. He's the US's president folks. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 04:15 PM) Alot of smart people are saying you will thrive under this policy I still feel many hate me because I speak my mind. The world is round folks. Not everybody is meant to agree with each other. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 04:15 PM) Greg, Every day in office for 8 years, Obama was disrespected by republicans, Fox News, Rush Limbaugh...all of the places you go for a few minutes to see what's up. Did you miss it? He's out of office now, but they still give him crap. Maybe not every day anymore. Trump has blatantly lied more than any other president. Why is it bad to call him out on it? Why do they still give Obama crap for saying "if you like your plan, you can keep your plan". Why is that OK, and Trump's big beautiful wall will only cost $8 billion because that is what he does, and oh by the way, Mexico is going to pay for the wall, and now he needs $25 billion for said wall, which he now admits wouldn't be nearly as long or bold as it was when it was $8 billion, since he went on an expedition and discovered there are places on the border a wall could not be built? Well it's OK to disagree with the President of course. I don't remember people calling Obama names or using the "that guy" routine on him. If Rush was calling Obama names well I don't agree with Rush there. I think we can all agree Obama represented the USA quite well. He never did anything I would consider rude or crude. For that I applaud him. s***, I voted for the guy at least once, maybe both times I forget. Or maybe I sat one of 'em out. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 07:06 PM) There’s no escaping greg. Even if you block him, you’ll see all the responses to his outlandish posts. The best you can do is hope it’s all an act and try to look the other way. Contrary to popular opinion, I do read the responses to my claims on here. I take them into consideration. If it seems I don't, then my bad. It's just when I post I feel strongly about the subject matter. You must at least give me that. I hold my breath until I become passionate about a post/issue. Why can't you accept my posts and realize they are good intentioned.
  11. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 07:55 AM) Baseball Common Sense 101 tells me when you hit .330 you did a lot right and just didn't get lucky. There's a lot to be said for actually watching/studying baseball. Not to the stat lovers (tell me if I'm not allowed to use term statniks; I prefer that one). It's all about advanced stats and Avi doesn't stack up. QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 12:44 PM) He mainly just got lucky. I watched a lot of White Sox baseball and he got lucky on a lot of the nights I was watching. He was a pleasure to watch hit. He had a clue, folks. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 02:33 PM) Maybe because he was in better shape his swing loosened up , maybe it got a touch quicker. Maybe his knowledge of how pitchers were approaching him got better . Maybe it was all of the above. These are things you cannot measure .The best hitters are smart hitters to go along with their physical gifts. I like this post. QUOTE (turnin' two @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 03:06 PM) Avi could win the MVP, Triple Crown, cure cancer, dress in tights and fight crime by night and control the movement of the heavens and there would still be people that hate him and think he should do more. This is all I've been trying to say. I just want to feel Avi love on here and I don't. No love for his 2017, just saying he got lucky and he can't do it again and he should be traded. If Avi is a bum this season you can pile on me all you want, but I thought he had a great 2017 with no using the word "but. ...." Now if he reports fat and out of shape, fine, I was wrong about him. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 07:49 PM) some of us will be right and claiming victory and I'd much rather be right or wrong predicting success rather than failure. I won't claim victory; I just want him to succeed and for the Sox to win big. QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 08:27 PM) We’re all rooting for him. I hope so. I don't feel very much Avi support on here. I think Sox fans on message boards follow the cliche. They are much more excited about unknown prospects even though Avi is in his age 26 season. He turns 27 in mid June. It's like nobody is taking into consideration what he did in his age 25 season as being a huge progression. The same people will make excuses for youngsters struggling in the minors like some of our pitchers and make excuse after excuse for them about how they are developing fine. Well, Avi developed on the big league stage last year. If you watched him, you saw a professional smart hitter who hit a lot of lazers. Instead of laying off the inevitable advanced stat "he can't sustain this!" and just flat out support him, there's too much negativity IMO surrounding the guy. Again I take it all back if he gets fat again. I feel the same way about Abreu. Four incredibly consistent seasons and there would have been more joy than angst had we traded him this winter. By the way I will NOT be rubbing it in if Avi remains excellent this season and I'd appreciate if you all resist the temptations to blast him if he sucks. (Unless he's a fat slob; if he's in great shape like last year, please lay off).
  12. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 06:29 AM) It was available for your consumption and thoughts, yet you wait for the review. Why not just watch it yourself and tell us what you thought? Let me guess, you heard it was great from a ®eal news news source. Chris Matthews disagrees - fake news. Matthews keeps calling him, "this guy." It's funny how cocky some people are. Their candidate didn't win so they don't even recognize the winner as President. When Obama won, nobody referred to him as "this guy." If you are an American you have to admit he's your president at least. We voted him in. So he's the USA president. U live in the USA so he's your president. Trump may be a chump but a lot of smart people are claiming the economy is thriving under DT. If we can get him impeached, fine, go for it. But if not he's still the US president until a scandal arrives that dictates he be removed. Just cause u lost doesn't mean u have to call him "this guy."
  13. Just heard he did a great job on his speech and it was a big hit. Hmmmm ... Chris Matthews disagrees.
  14. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 08:59 PM) One thing I never understood about teams holding on to these weird old racist names and logos based on Native Americans. There are so many cool names to go with. Cleveland Spiders was a really cool name. That would be bad ass if they changed to that now. I saw some of the alternate logos people did for the Redskins, some really cool ones. The Spiders would really be good. The Cleveland Spiders. Wow. You have something here. Send some tweets to their media.
  15. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 01:03 AM) The advanced stats say that 2017 was likely an aberration. Because of BABIP? One stat. He's destined to drop. Hopefully Avi reports to camp in as good shape as last year and doesn't get fat and happy. If he remains the "in shape" Avi ... look out.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 06:58 PM) Avi got a ton of hate up until this past season. Even now he gets more doubt per square mile than any other player on the roster. Let's face it, there are people on this board (I'd say 40 percent of the peeps, maybe a bit more) who will never "believe" in Avi. His age and his production scream "excitement" and "potential" but Sox fans just can't unequivocally support the guy. That's fine. He's got to prove it again. I'd say if he has the same year this year as last there still will be severe detractors. I guess they will want at least 15 more homers from Avi, a ton more RBIs. The funny thing is that the advanced stats all love Avi and still the advanced statniks here can't buy that Avi is a star. Again, that's fine. We Avi lovers can't win; and Avi can't win. If he sucks in April and May ... wow the naysayers will want to run him out of town. If he excels? Big deal. It's not sustainable. Tough tough crowd and it makes no sense cause of Avi's age and his WAR. p.s. Would the nontender crowd like for Hahn to just dump him for scraps ASAP? Dat's a good question. p.s.s. The Royals getting rid of Moss?? Now that makes sense in all aspects. Avi being dumped? Makes no sense. BELIEVE.IN.AVI. He will deliver, folks.
  17. Scott Baio may not be guilty. He provides evidence.
  18. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 04:30 PM) So you admit that the economy got better under Obama but he didn't get enough credit for it. But if the economy suddenly started getting worse under Trump, it somehow wouldn't be his fault? What I'm saying is it's 100 percent partisan how most see it. The economy is allegedly better. Since Trump has only been in a year, the Demos are saying, "Duh, it's because of Obama." The Trump-ies are saying, "Trump has completely turned around the economy. The stock market is so confident in him it's amazing." My stance? You won't like it. My stance is I have no idea. I'm not the smartest cat on some issues and economy is one of them. My gut feeling is this is not an all-Obama fueled economic resurgence.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 05:52 PM) Plus no one agrees on what his actual worth is. There are so many questions with Avi, it is almost impossible to see him dealt right now. We'll know a lot more in a few months when he either hits like he did last year or regresses some amount. I can buy this take. If Avi is as productive as last season, somebody's going to be acquiring a very good hitter for a number of years. If those other Sox outfield prospects are much much better than Avi I guess it's win/win for everybody when the Sox finally trade him, hopefully for good relief pitchers. But I remain happy Avi and Abreu will be with the Sox this season. I'm sure "many" will be discussing flipping he and Abreu at the deadline all season which is always annoying.
  20. Like everybody said they had to get rid of the logo. They ought to change the name of the team. Times change and unfortunately for them it's very offensive to many.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 02:46 AM) I'm just surprised we haven't seen a comment yet about the Bush SNL impression from Greg... Bill Maher has dissected President Donald Trump’s oft-repeated defense that he’s “the least racist person anyone has ever met.” On Friday’s broadcast of “Real Time,” the comedian said that if Trump kept on insisting it was true then he had to explain “why the single most consistent thing in his whole life is he loves to pick fights with black people.” “Of all his myriad insanities, if I had to pick one line for his tombstone it would be, ‘Here Lies Donald Trump: Picked Fights With Black People,’” quipped Maher. “Think of the list,” he said, before reeling off the names of people that Trump has attacked over the years. “Is it just a coincidence that he’s perpetually pissed off at the NBA and NFL but golfers and hockey players never seem to bother him?” asked Maher, before lightheartedly suggesting another group of people that Trump may like to aim his anger at instead. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/bill-m...4b0ddb658c6a899 Voters of color won't be fooled by Trump's claims on black jobless rate https://www.cnn.com/2018/01/26/opinions/eco...nion/index.html You know what, I did watch SNL again. I generally like Will Ferrell. I only liked one skit quite a bit on the show. It was where a bunch of couples were sitting at dinner and were uncomfortable discussing sexual harrasment issues of the day. It was good stuff IMO. I thought the Bush thing was not good. I mean, it's been too long. I didn't see the point of it. Again, I love Will Ferrell. I think I may have smiled at one of the jokes or something but it was dull skit. Again, I thought one skit in the whole show was funny or sort of funny. I really like Kate McKinnon and wish she was in more skits. I will say I do respect Ferrell. He was probably in six skits in 90 minutes, maybe more. That has to be hard to do live with just a week memorizing lines (i realize there are cue cards). In conclusion ... Ferrell on the whole A-plus. Ferrell on this particular show - D, but not through his fault. Bad skits.
  22. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 28, 2018 -> 08:27 PM) Funny thing is, is that if the rumors were flipped and it was reported the Sox had no interest in Machado or Yelich this winter, these same people would be complaining about it. Whiners are gonna whine. One thing ignored is that Hahn has said repeatedly they would continue to seek players that can be apart of the next contender and come with long term control. Yelich fits that and until Machado made clear that he would not sign an extension, so did he. I see no inconsistencies whatsoever coming from Hahn. Wrong. Whiners are not going to always whine if you are referring to me. I've accepted the rebuild and am not clamoring for trying to acquire Machado or Yelich. In fact, I don't want to suddenly trade the young guys Hahn has stockpiled. There are plenty of things I've praised about the Sox on my time on this board. Some things, however, make me mad as well.
  23. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jan 28, 2018 -> 08:21 PM) Greg you make me want to swallow my gun. Why. I try my best. I can't help it if people think I listen to Rush hours upon hours and Hannity (I actually can't stand his voice and won't listen to him more than 30 seconds) when in all reality I catch a take from Rush if I'm not in the mood for the Beatles channel or local sports talk radio in the short spurts driving around town. I want prosperity. I don't see much of it the past several years.
  24. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jan 28, 2018 -> 08:03 PM) 1. Neither do I, and he's done nothing in his first year to change that. 2. I also want prosperity, but personal wealth (mine, yours, Trumps') shouldn't be at the expense of our rights, the environment, etc. Money isn't everything. As a Catholic, you might recognize "whatsoever you do to the least of My people, that you do unto Me." 3. Ultimately, I want Trump to succeed. I try not to think of politics as an us vs. them thing. If everything is good for the vast majority of people due to the policies of the current administration, what do I care if the person getting credit has a D or R next to their name? Truthfully, I don't notice much of difference personally no matter who is in charge. And, my response to your earlier post was that you wouldn't take the time to look up the stock market results for preceeding years. They were not all negative, as I recall. But, I don't recall Rs rushing to credit Obama. Good point on No. 2 Buffalo. Trump certainly does not qualify as a good person I don't think. I should blast his social agenda more on here. Good points. 3. I agree. As I've stated most of my presidential votes have been abstain or for the Democrat and I am a Republican. I have heard about Obama deserving the credit for the economy being better. But in the story I read it said if the economy was bad now, the Obama lovers would be blaming Trump not Obama. So it's all partisan.
  25. QUOTE (Quin @ Jan 28, 2018 -> 06:18 PM) Greg, you bit on that one hard. I usually believe all posts are true except for the ones from sincity about Avi in the Hall of Fame, etc. That's the only example of baiting/trolling I feel exists. That's why those who say I troll are incorrect. I speak what I perceive is the truth at all times.
