I see no way Gordon Beckham will be in the big leagues next season. Which begs the question. Is he one of the most disappointing players in White Sox history if not baseball history? He was a can't miss prospect and just could never hit the ball consistently. He'll be remembered as a guy who got hot a handful of times in his career when he was simply remarkable but 85 percent of the time he reeked. Do you all agree he's pretty much done? And will NOT be on a team next year?

Sox are gonna have to play great baseball to win a game this series. Angels have a good team and have to be incensed at their play on the road of late including in Chicago. In other words they want blood.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 02:31 PM) I'm really disappointed in this Dem field. Way too thin, and just poor candidate depth. You've got a Clinton, a guy whose ideas are wholly impractical (Sanders), O'Malley, and... anyone else? Really? The Dems have the advantage in that they don't suffer from the MUST FOLLOW PARTY LINE problem nearly as badly as the GOP does. But the Dems have a real lack of leadership bench. The Dems also have no debates by design. Hilly is the entitled choice. It's not even about issues or the future of our country. It's letting one lady get what is rightfully hers -- the queenship; I mean first woman presidency. It's her destiny and it's not even about democracy anymore. It's about letting Hillary fulfill her destiny. Sad.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 10:48 PM) https://www.yahoo.com/politics/trump-says-h...6838527651.html The odds of Trump actually wiining the nomination just went from negligible to a fighting chance... Why would that one issue matter? I do think he's a lock to win the nomination at least. Virtually all the Rebub candidates besides Trump are despised by the masses. Not one of them can possibly pass Trump who has the name recognition. Then Trump just gets blistered in the general election and we have Hillary for 8 years. I think women's hatred of Trump would turn the election into a Hilly landslide for certain. Women aren't going to pick the somewhat slimy Trump over the first woman president.

Is Sale the best pitcher in White Sox history, pure talent wise? The answer may be yes.
-
Q: Would you approve of this move? Robin gets fired Monday and Ozzie signs a 2-year deal with easy out-clauses for the team regarding behavior issues of him and his family. I would take it, though I would feel sorry for Robin. He seems like a good guy and no doubt he knows baseball. It's just not working out on the South Side for him as manager.

Nice to win and split it, 3-3 against a team that is better than the Sox. 3-3 is a good season series all things considered. You have to wonder. If we had Madden are the Sox 19 over and the Cubs five under .500? Maybe. Now as far as today's nice win ... nice to see the old winning formula for games in the Cell. Good pitching plus lift and pull. The return of the homer and good starting pitching usually is a winning formula for the Sox.

Thank goodness Boni is gone. No offense to him if he's a good guy but the purge must continue. Dump Beckham next. Bring up Micah. He needs no more minors. Why bury guys like Micah. When it's time it's time. Look at Semien. He's playing for A's now. Look at Giavatello of the Royals. He's playing now for Cali. It's time for Micah and Davidson for better or worse. See if they can play; if not get rid of them as well.

Chris Tannehill/Score trying to make Harrelson look bad...?

QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 04:49 AM) A. Bull! B. Legend?, he's an embarrassment. You love his catch phrases? They are just crutches. He's not a legend? He's legendary. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 03:37 PM) I think announcers should be homers. But Hawk is the biggest one in baseball, possibly sports. To say he's not a homer is asinine. Hawk criticizes the White Sox a lot. That means he is not a homer as much as all the other announcers in baseball who are apologists/homers. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 04:56 AM) http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/16/upshot/i...=0002&abg=0 All your answers are here. Thanks. That's what I was afraid of. She's firmly in command. That email thing isn't going to bring her down. It's just going to add to her "greatness" legacy. ... "She overcame all obstacles even the ridiculous campaign to bring her down through alleged secret emails. She proved those accusations false." Listen to this Michael Savage attack on Meghan Kelly. He makes some great points. The debate ended and Kelly interviewed some Hillary worshiper and that person had the nerve to say, "This debate tells me the Democratic nominee will have no trouble winning. And the Republicans are having so few debates because they know they don't fare well." Huh?? Will there even be a Democratic debate? Should be interesting to see the Journalists toss Hillary softballs and ruin their careers if there ever is a Democratic debate. Now she'll probably have one soon IMO before Gore and Biden decide to run and tear her apart. But listen to Savage and tell me what u think. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yawAyr4Ch-o

Chris Tannehill/Score trying to make Harrelson look bad...?

You guys also have to remember one other thing. ... With the Cubs apparently going to be strong now for years to come it's going to be easy for the Sox to completely drop off the map. It's good to have a colorful announcer like Harrelson. Good to have a colorful manager as well but we already went that route with Ozzie. Sox are in danger of dropping totally into irrelevance with the Cubs rebuild complete. Hawk/Stoney forever! -
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 06:17 AM) While I hate losing to the Cubs, I enjoy watching us creep back up the draft board. Our losses place us in a better position to draft, perhaps, a generational talent moreso than any other means. We're not going to fleece anyone in a trade deal (if anything we'll continue to unload what's remaning in our baron system), and we're not going to spend 150+ million for a FA. Did anyone else look at the Cubs lineup in envy? And come next June if we were to pick Top 5, no one would care how these games end. If Sale and Rodon (the only two players I care about) would lose every game 1-0 (unearned run) I'd be happy. im not even concerned about 16' either Why would you not be concerned about 16? What makes us so magically good in 17? Anderson at short? He's no lock to be good. I guess we could draft another star pitcher like Sale or Rodon who could move right into the rotation. But right now the minors aren't providing the Sox with key replacements in the field. Micah? Any guys who can hit home runs and field the ball? We need power hitters for the Cell and guys who can catch the ball but not hit .220 like Saladino and Sanchez. Why is 17 so magical? Just cause of pitching?
-
Holy crap. I didn't realize the Cubs had that kind of a W/L record. They are locks for the playoffs. Hard to believe there will be postseason baseball in Chicago this year. If they can't win the division, though, they got to play in the one-game wildcard, right?? That would suck for them if they end up with the kind of record they may have.
-
Not trying to be a one-trick-pony guy, but to my Democratic friends, is this just a lull in the process time, or is Hilly really drawing yawns from Democratic leadership and they are not against Gore running or Biden getting in the race? I stand my my "Hillary wins in a landslide over Trump or Bush" but can I get my hopes up? Is there a chance the elder stateswoman is boring everybody and is there a chance she could lose the nomination?? Can I get my hopes up at all, or is this just the normal lull? It sure seems like Hilly is exciting nobody even on the Democratic side at this juncture.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 05:43 AM) Well for starters, DJ does it way more than Hawk. That's just in town. The Royals also have the second worse broadcaster in baseball, Rex Hudler. (The worst is Tim McCarver) DJ better watch it. If anybody notices he could get the boot. It doesn't work except for announcers that are legends. Harry Caray had a Sox sidekick fired once cause he and the guy spent a rain delay trashing the team. They didn't blame Harry; they canned the sidekick after the season. Kudos to DJ but DJs are a dime a dozen. If the team gets mad he'll be shown the door. -
QUOTE (Saufley @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 05:34 AM) If the Sox lose the Sunday game and get swept there better be a news conference after the game with the firing of the manager!! Nah. It'll be same ol same ol waiting for the club to become the "good Sox" again and creep ever so close to .500. Sox just don't compete. They don't believe in down and get dirty competition even in trying to salvage a 3-3 split with the Cubs. Sox have no rivals; they can't get up for anybody except the Yankees. They'll probably even start a Sunday lineup, though Robin doesn't do that as much as Ozzie to be fair. Boni will play; I bet u Beckham plays and LaRoche of course will be in there. Add Sanchez and Soto and that will be an awful stretch of five hitters. Even Saladino can't hit anymore.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 08:37 PM) Hawk is the Wink Martindale homer. You're bass ackwards. By Martindale, I meant the fake announcers voice. Most teams have a Steve Physioc who ENUNCIATES and talks like nobody in America actually talks. "Fans ... it's runners on first and third and nobody out." QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 08:44 PM) You do realize that Hawk is THE homer in baseball. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it but he is the biggest homer ever. It's the definition of homer. Hawk CRITICIZES the team he works for. He did it again tonight. Why can't you guys admit NOBODY else in baseball does that??? He bites the hand that feeds him and it's GREAT. The Royals announcers like most mock the opposing team as part of their biting commentary. The Royals can NEVER do any wrong and it's sickening. Hawk is different! QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 04:59 AM) Sometimes a good thing can last too long. Hawk doesn't believe in advanced metrics, he says things that are blatantly wrong ("Those days when you raise your own players in the minors are over"...ARE YOU KIDDING ME?), he does not relate to younger fans (for example, no one under 40 knows half his references). It's not hard. WAR is important, not everyone is the next Yaz, Trayce Thompson is not a 30 HR hitter, and he's an absolute bore. On days when Stony is out, the White Sox broadcast is unlistenable to anyone who isn't a simpleton. Hawk actually does know baseball. Cmon. As far as advanced metrics, how come the producers don't even put OBP on the screen in most broadcasts? It's still BA, HR, RBI for hitters and WL, pitch count and ERA for pitchers. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 05:23 AM) Honestly, all of this is just flat out wrong. Hawk actually has referenced war a few times. He does not turn a blind eye to advanced metrics contrary to popular belief. His highly publisized beef vs MLBN, he certainly took a black eye, but he came out better for it. His references are found often across every kind of baseball media. To pretend his references don't exist to those under 40 is a joke. You can't go a week without watching sport center without seeing one. Every deadspin baseball comment section mentions him. AMEN! I hate the fact some Sox fans criticize this legend. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 04:40 AM) Either way, what does it matter? There was no one to trade other than Shark and it doesn't sound like anyone tempted us too much anyways. I disagree. I think we could have dumped Shark, Lexi and Robertson and LaRoche for sure, all to NL teams. We also I think could have dumped Melky and Avi. At the very least I think we should have traded LaRoche, Shark, Robertson, Melky and Lexi. It would have taken guts but Hahn could have re-generated the team with trades right there. Instead we're left with the same crap for next year. Not good.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 03:05 AM) Even a great sale game and the BP cup, this white sox team can't exactly afford to win 1/3 in any series any more. It's August not April and we continued all in at the deadline by not trading our soon to be free agents. We're supposed to be right there at the end, Rick Hahn promised me so. Hahn or Kenny or Jerry ... somebody was too scared to pull the plug and make some big trades a month before the deadline when it was obvious this team sucked. If the Sox weren't gonna make any moves 2-4 weeks before the deadline, they should have at least fired Robin to see if a new voice would have mattered at all. You can tell Hawk thinks Robin is overmatched. He kept mentioning all the mistakes. The fact he's NOT mentioning Robin at all, ever, shows how much he blames Robin. A lot. If he thought Robin was a good manager, he'd be saying players are accountable, etc. You just know Hawk realizes Robin is a buffoon or at least not a leader. Sadly, Robin's teams have sucked. How this team beat Madden 2 of 3 in Wrigley is an anomaly.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 02:46 AM) The league realized he can't hit fastballs up and sliders away. He looks like every other Sox prospect that's been called up the last 10 years. It really shouldn't be surprising, he wasn't a good Minor League hitter. True post. Saladino is a dandy fielder but can't hit. Another utility guy on a team full of utility guys (minus the ones we've already gotten rid of like Gillaspie, Semien, etc.; although have u noticed how hot Semien has been)? QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 02:54 AM) All I have to look forward to is a Bears season that is shaping up to be 3-13. Just f***ing shoot me. We shouldn't be TOO greedy in terms of our city's teams. The Blackhawks are fresh off a world championship. Some cities (Cleveland) would kill to win it. We've had the Hawks to cheer about and the Sox have won a title in modern history and Bears reached a Super Bowl in modern history. And of course the Bulls were dynastic not too long ago. Our city is not long suffering anymore. The Sox blow, however. This team has been disgustingly bad except for one, ill timed 7-1 road trip. Typical Sox the one week they needed to suck to clear the roster of all these stiffs they excel.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 02:57 AM) Tomorrow is the game where anything less than a great effort would be inexcusable. Ace on the mound against their #5 with Cubs going for a sweep. I hear you, but what about tonight? A lot of people think Q is pretty good and the Sox had screwup after screwup (mentally) tonight. Robin should be ashamed or embarrassed at least. What a joke of an organization this is. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 02:57 AM) Historically from as far back as April 18, 1981 10th inning show, EE and JR have not considered the Cubs a 'rival'. That's been a huge mistake in my opinion. Mark Thing is ... Sox have no rivals. The front office probably thinks the Yankees are their rivals because of the amount of WS they've won. When are the Sox gonna have a team that gets down and dirty and plays solid baseball?
-
QUOTE (Saufley @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 02:47 AM) I can't see how they don't BENCH HIM now!!! Give the young guys a chance and forget that our GM screwed up and gave him a 2 year $25 mil contract!!! You'll save a lot of anger/angst if you accept the fact Sox and most all teams will ALWAYS start and pay the guys making big bucks. LaRoche will get 600 at bats next year as well, even if he's hitting .210 again. Just the way it is.
-
I know the White Sox under Robin have been the cool, calm, collected, never break a sweat type team whose motto every season seems to be, "It's still early; there's plenty of time left," before finally time runs out, but .... I would think the owner of this team would be flat out embarrassed by tonight's game. If this were a regular business there'd be hell to pay after playing such a s*** game tonight against one's in-town rivals. Oh wait, the Sox players I'm sure don't consider the Cubs a rival, just like the Royals aren't a rival, the Tigers aren't a rival. Sox never get "up" for any team. They're too cool for that. I wish Jerry would throw a fit publicly about this miserable, effortless team.
-
Just getting caught up on the game. I see the Sox have played like crap. This ballclub is an utter failure this year. Never any sense of urgency. Never any extended periods of alert, good, solid baseball. Whether or not it's Robin's fault, this team blows.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 09:32 PM) Seems a bit harsh when "policy proposals" are usually pie in the sky dreams that they have no hope or actual desire to see implemented. Demeanor is often a key characteristic. Does he/she look/act/sound "presidential" or not. Sure, basing it on that ALONE would be silly, but I don't see why that can't be factor or even a significant factor. Thank you, sir. Great post. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 02:06 AM) Every year, it's the same thing. Cut government waste. Cut foreign aid. Help our own people, etc. The fact of the matter is that numbers aren't going to be adding up over the next 15-25 years with entitlement programs. Other than raising taxes or raising retirement ages, how are you going to control costs when a higher percentage are retired than working? Lots of super rich people think it's basically ridiculous they still receive social security, but try taking it away. Indexing that in terms of net worth would be one step, but even progressive moves like that aren't palatable. If you want to cut waste, why don't you take on all the churches/charities/501 c 3's who take in billions of dollars and spend it on executive salaries, fundraising, posh dinners and congratulating themselves when the lion's share of money isn't going into direct services that are beneficial to everyday people? If you held them accountable and actually withdrew their tax exempt status in the case of poorly run organizations, you'd probably be more effective than trying to reform the government. College sports shouldn't be tax exempt, that's for sure. It's totally big business. Churches? I don't know if you are right there. As far as raising retirement ages, that'd be fine if any business besides fast food would hire somebody over 50. It's all about young, cheap labor now.
