AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:27 AM) Melky's last 33 games: .385 5 HRs 25 RBI 9 BB 21 Runs 15 doubles and 2 triples and a partridge in a pear tree. Melky's bat might be the one thing that woke up our squad. Abreu has seemed to have shaken his funk. Lot of guys are stroking hits now. Melky would be the unofficial MVP offensively. I'd say the turnaround of late is the Melky-led offense and the Saladino/Lexi/Sanchez led defense to go with the fierce foursome mound corps. Nice pick at first today by Abreu as well. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:37 AM) He's going to add AJP I love AJP but don't want him back. I would assume he's not any better at throwing guys out and I would suspect he pops up a lot like he used to. He's too old. If we're gonna bring back world champs, bring back Buehrle even though we don't really need him right now.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:49 AM) Man the Sox are on fire. They have to be the best baseball team of the past week. It should be an interesting deadline but I would not want to be in a GM shoes. Personally I'd white flag the s*** out of this. Sox are one under .500 with eight weeks of ball left. They played so badly for such an extended period of time, there's no law that says they can't ride this great pitching staff to eight weeks of excellence. I can see why they'd stand pat or try to add just one bat.

7/29 White Sox vs Red Sox 6:10 CT
Do you guys agree with me that the biggest game of the year will be the game AFTER we finally lose? To put to rest any thoughts of an immediate 5 to 7 game losing streak? Or should I forget that thought and throw it out with some of the other incorrect thoughts I've had this bizarre season?

7/29 White Sox vs Red Sox 6:10 CT
Good to get even with Boston in Fenway. I seem to recall us getting swept there in a 4 game series a year or two ago or maybe in the Ozzie era, I forget. This winning is amazing. After all the s*** KW and Hahn have taken from fans like me, the Trib should do a story quoting Robin and front office types about how in the hell they've become (almost) a .500 team and why they actually believed the team would turn it around and play this kind of baseball.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:04 AM) Who will probably be gone once Nate Jones is back any day now. Nate and his funky delivery accounts for a lot of walks, as well. At least Webb battled back. Was he ever a starter in his career? He was lights out there after he got warmed up, after walking two guys. Shouldn't Webb be a starter in the minors with his ultimate goal starting in the bigs?

7/29 White Sox vs Red Sox 6:10 CT
Glad Webb is battling back a bit after the 2 walks. Walk 4-5 in a row and the game's in doubt.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:47 AM) I admit after supporting him for the longest time I caved in and wanted him fired about a month ago or so. Not so much because I thought he was an awful manager but I just felt enough was enough and something had to be done. Managers are often the scapegoat when a team is consistently bad whether that's fair or not. I'm happier than heck they've righted the ship. I wanted him axed, as well. I wanted him gone. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:47 AM) Saladino has a good approach and everything, but his hitting has fallen off a bit. I'm not worried yet. Still solid on defense and getting at least one hit a game. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:58 AM) Send Webb down. He sucks. Got to throw strikes with a seven run lead.
-

Inexcusable. Get Webb out of there.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:42 AM) Sanchez just had a sensational AB against a great pitcher I need a do-over as a fan on this season. I was wrong about him, too. I don't ever want to see Micah again. This Sanchez guy apparently is the real deal.

7/29 White Sox vs Red Sox 6:10 CT
Not trying to start anything up here, but remember when everybody except El Rockin and Dick Allen wanted Robin fired? If the team is able to keep this up, he'll be in Chicago for the next 20 years. BTW, the biggest game of the year is going to be the game after we finally lose. Remember this win streak followed a 4-game losing streak. Fair or not, the team has to prove it's not gonna turn around and lose 5 in a row.

7/29 White Sox vs Red Sox 6:10 CT
This winning is fun. I don't know why the team waited so long to quit being dysfunctional, but the good news is if this is the real White Sox team, there's plenty of time to grab a wild card.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 16, 2015 -> 04:10 PM) Jon Heyman @JonHeymanCBS 1m1 minute ago Jung-ho kang pirates deal is official. 4 years plus team option. Believed worth $11M plus. He looks good. We blew it if we had a chance to get him. Looks like a keeper.

Samardzija Trade Packages
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:55 AM) I think if you trade Jeff at this point you risk messing with their mojo... Once the Sox lose a game ... if they end up losing 7 of 8 again or something like that, we'll all be majorly pissed I'm sure. But I don't see what KW/Hahn can do. The team, which has an amazing rotation, has played itself to where it's right in the wildcard chase. How can you break it up now? You'd have to be buyers right now. The team could use a bat. What about trading LaRoche for Billy Butler and see if Butler can get hot?? The A's might help us out to get rid of Butler. He can't be any worse than LaRoche and might start stroking doubles. Or go ahead and make that deal with the Dodgers to get some hitting. Now that the Royals have traded all their pitching, maybe we could ship them a pitching prospect or two for Colon. They have no use for Colon at all now.

Royals trading for Zobrist
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:33 AM) They might not announce it, but it wouldn't be a shock to see Zobrist take over 2B after Alex Gordon comes back. It will be a bit controversial to bench Omar Infante, but Yost is going to play the player who gives him the best chance to win. The other thing to consider is it's not like Alex Rios at this stage in his career in lighting the world on fire. Rios and Infante are the ones who will lose the most playing time, IMO. I just read the AP story tonight said Gordon is expected back in late September. I thought Moore said late August/early September. If Gordon comes back late September, that will be dicey. You have to give him his job back but if he hits .120 in the postseason and KC doesn't reach the Series, Moore and Ned will be blasted for playing Gordon. Allegedly it took Rios a month to get his timing back.

QUOTE (kwill @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:40 AM) I know everybody is talking about adding another bat but one quick fix would be bring up Erik Johnson up and putting Danks in the pen. Danks will probably not average a 4.50 ERA the rest of the way. Lets see if Johnson can give us something better out of the 5th slot. If you are going to put Danks in the pen, just send him down instead to continue to work on starting as he recovers fully from that surgery. Danks in the bullpen to me is a dumb idea and the bullpen doesn't need him. It has two lefties. DFA him and eat the money or send him down in your scenario of Erik taking the No. 5 spot. I assume nobody will take him in a minor trade cause of $$$ and Sox won't send money with him.

Another Movie Theatre Shooting
QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 05:09 PM) Gregg, there are many reports of friendly fire killing troops in recent history (including Pat Tillman). Our military engages in tremendous amounts of training in high pressure and high stress situations, yet they are not infallible in difficult situations. This narrative that the "good guy" with the gun has the training and the ability to properly assess and remove the threat is not supported by any evidence. The point here - it's a very dangerous assumption to say that firearm owner X is "not going to shoot unless he has a good shot." Note, I'm not anti-firearms. I don't begrudge people using firearms for home protection (though I question the utility of this one, I understand why people feel that way), hunting, protection of livestock/crops, and sport. But when people carry a deadly tool like that out into public, that's when I start to question the societal value... I personally would never carry a loaded gun, but if society keeps going downhill ... and these incidents become commonplace, I might reconsider. Like Tex said, he wants to have the right as a law abiding citizen to blow away the Colorado movie theatre killers of the world. I understand what you are saying. I'd also hate to get shot by some guy who was trying to shoot bad-guy Holmes.

Royals trading for Zobrist
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:25 AM) They're not trying to simply win the division. This was a World Series move. Would they really bench Infante for Zobrist once Gordon comes back? That ironclad defense/team chemistry might take a little bit of a hit. He's gonna play leftfield now with Cain in center and Rios in right.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 11:53 PM) the same kind of formula does gets old. too bad. he is not as bad as his personality suggest. I think he reached the low point with Grown Ups One. That movie was one of the worst comedies I've ever seen. I wouldn't watch Grown Ups Two if you gave me 100 bucks. I almost walked out of Grown Ups One when I realized there was no hope of me laughing even once. But I stayed until the end for some reason.

THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE (venom4789 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:45 AM) I am now drinking the kool aid and loving it. Dick Allen has to be laughing at us Robin haters. If Sox avoid the usual tank job once this winning streak ends, they may finally be in the one-game WC race for good.

Wild Card Watch 2015
QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:12 AM) We are right in the mix, but the only thing that will be holding us back is trotting Danks out there every 5 days, unless we face someone like Kelly. Sox have four amazing starters in Shark, Sale, Rodon and Q. I mean how many teams have 5 amazing starters? That foursome is World Series caliber. And Danks is a suitable No. 5. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:16 AM) Sox are 5-5 in his last 10 starts. 4.37 ERA, averaging 6 innings per start. That's good 5th starter stuff...and something a lot of teams would like to have...just not at 14 mil. Exactly. Unless Danks runs out of gas and his last start is what's to come, he's not a bad No. 5 starter. As I've said 1,000 times don't hate the man for his contract. It's management's fault, not Johnny Danks! Join me on the Danks/Flowers bandwagon. You'll be glad you did.

Royals trading for Zobrist
After reading about KC's trade ... wouldn't Zobrist have been a good guy for the Sox to acquire? He draws walks and could have played 2B and DH'ed if LaRoche continues to stink. Sox may not have been able to beat KC's offer I guess.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:02 AM) I think the Sox are really chasing TOR and BALT. The Twins are going to fade. Their youngsters won't handle it. I wouldn't be surprised if HOU fades as well. On ESPN Stark says teams say the White Sox have been tellimg teams they won't trade Shark if it makes them weaker this season. I agree about Minnie. They could have a final two months like the Sox first two months. They blow.

Royals trading for Zobrist
I think this last Royals trade was dumb. KC is so far ahead it is a lock to win the division which means it avoids the one-game wildcard bulls***. With that amazing defense, there's no way they can blow an 8-game lead even with Dyson and Orlando filling in for Gordon. Dyson and Orlando are useful players. They FULLY EXPECT Gordon to return well before the playoffs. So this most recent trade for Zobrist strips them of more pitchers who figured to be huge contributors in the future. There's no way they'll sign Zobrist or Cueto for next season so I think this last trade was dumb. Cueto is needed FOR the playoffs; Zobrist isn't. Seems like a dumb move by KC to strip itself of so many pitching prospects for the future. These two guys are rentals.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:13 AM) win in the Central and win the Central....better to have said, they're capable of beating the teams in the AL Central head to head(other than the Royals right now) This season is so bizarre I'm not ruling out finally holding their own in Central Division games the rest of the way (though the bastard Royals may spoil the party with a sweep in Kauffman next weekend). This team is so bizarre it's impossible to track it. I mean there's no way this team will follow this win streak with another bummer that puts it 8 under .500 again. Somebody please convince me of that!
