QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 06:57 PM) We don't "have to move him" by any stretch of the imagination. The only good reason to move him is if some team offers a ton for him, so much so that it would be dumb to say no. The Tigers are one team we could conceive of doing that. I'd want four can't-miss prospects and one or two of them really really really great players to give Detroit an automatic division title and likely WS like that.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 03:28 PM) Sox fans are a funny bunch. Nobody dogged it more than AJ. Seriously, he loafed, complained, and cried more than anybody, yet people put him on a pedestal. I guess you have to throw your bat to prove you care. You thought AJ dogged it? I think he was a "shoulder shrug" runner at times, but he may be all time Sox leader in TWTW. One of the best "gamers" in White Sox history without a doubt. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 05:10 PM) Nobody would have cared about Rios dogging it if Ventura didn't pull him and mention it to the media. But now it's a national story. I don't see why you are condoning babying Rios. The guy has a history of loafing. Every GM in baseball knows everything there is to know about Rios including his penchant to dog it. It would have taken a lot for Ventura to ignore that. You should be furious at Rios, not Ventura. If you think Rios' trade value has declined for that incident, your anger should be directed to Rios IMO. Ventura would have to resign if unwilling to discipline a guy in that situation. He'd not be a leader at all.

I think it'd be wrong to trade him to the Tigers. Just find a team in another division to deal him to if the Sox have to move him.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 06:50 AM) Well avoiding her until then will be nearly impossible, considering we work together 5 days a week. That would be way too obvious and s***ty of me to not even speak to her at work. Texting, however, could be where I "make my point". And no, I am pretty sure none of those female friends secretly want me. lol. I would absolutely take any of those 3, they are beautiful girls, but no, they genuinely though it was adorable and figured she would be smitten by it. Hell, I thought the same thing, really. That's what I don't get about women. If it happened to them, they'd be creeped out, but when they hear such a story they get all emotional and think it's a great idea.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 05:53 AM) Lol man greg you are classic, the Ozzie Guillen of this message board no doubt. What are your thoughts on PK famously dogging it to first ever so often when he hits a ground ball right at a guy? I believe soxtalk even started using the phrase "mean mugs and shoulder shrugs" (or something close to that, idk if we went all Nelly on him) at his lackadaisical-ness when it came to running to first. Now I know PK isn't the athlete Rios is so I can feed your rebuttal with that but still...Is he lazy? Is he stealing a paycheck? It was a hard hit ground ball right at Simmons, who by the way was being praised for his D in todays game, that should have been as routine as it gets. I don't blame him for being frustrated with the ab, putting his head down, and basically becoming Paul Konerko for a second. I'd venture to believe a good deal of major leaguers would have done the same. I think Paulie should be disciplined as well if he's obviously dogging it. He's so slow, however, it's hard to tell even with the shoulder shrug.

Are the Royals contenders or pretenders? Win the first two vs. the Tigers. If they sweep and cut it to five do they have a chance? Or are they still the Royals?

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 04:05 AM) So you advocate playing the "hard to get" phase now? It's something I'd definitely do if I have more time, but with 3-4 weeks left at home, I am thinking I need keep showing that I'm interested. I really think this time table is really hurting me more than anything else because I can't afford to slow play this like I normally do. My last "Jazmine" I slowplayed for 2+ years before I had her WILD, texting me dirty things and trying to come home with me after work. Of course I never pulled an adorable move like the rose on her car either, so maybe there is something to that. Yes I think you have no choice but to ignore her even with time running out. Maybe if you ignore her all the way til the day or two you go back to school, then see if the time is right for a final "date" of some kind. The rose on the car was a killer. I wonder if any of those female friends who condoned that secretly want you.
-
Chilihead, that is one crazy story. I think you are already aware of what I'm going to say. This ship has sailed. The card thing was a big big mistake. You hadn't even had sex yet. I can't believe the female friends of yours encouraged you. Like you said earlier, the fact you rejected her the first night when you wanted to watch the Blackhawks game was a big plus in your corner. You played that perfectly. Of course you weren't 'playing' anything, you wanted to watch the Hawks. Giving her the card took away the flirtatious stuff, took away everything cause it was way too early. I loved your long post. It was revealing and I'm sure you are already aware of what I'm saying, that it's over. Even if you talk it out, the magic is gone. Only way you can POSSIBLY get her back is to get her wanting you again. You need another Blackhawk night moment, but I can't for the life of me figure out how you can blow her off when she now thinks you want her as a GF. Oh well. I'd completely ignore her starting NOW and see if that works. I don't think a meeting for coffee will help at all.

QUOTE (Harold @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 02:47 AM) I was at the game (took my grandson to his 1st Sox game ~ have to help raise him right!) and met Shingo on the concourse. He was with his translator and I shook his hand, it was loads of fun. I bet he could still flip the frisbee up there at at least 75 mph, although he did bounce his first pitch about 6 feet in front of home plate, so maybe not. Good job, Harold. Baseball is for wide-eyed little kids. Hope it was a memorable day for your grandson and you. Out of curiosity, how much did you spend on the little fella? One hotdog, one cotton candy, two Cokes in the heat, one hat could set you back about 50 bucks I'm guessing. When I was a kid my granddad took me to a ton of Cub games, yes Cub games. He was a Cub fan and I was the only one who would go with him as I loved baseball and as a little kid was enthralled by the scoreboard and ivy. Thankfully my dad had Sox season tickets for many many years and I went to way more games of the good guys on the South side.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 10:29 PM) The organization shouldn't really care if the team wins for the rest of the year or not. Rios not running out a ground ball that cost the Sox 1 run in a more or less meaningless game isn't a huge deal. What is a big deal is Robin Ventura telling everyone he benched Rios because he didn't run out a ball hard. Now you might be stuck with Rios because nobody else wants him. How does that help the future of this team? Ventura blew up a non-issue. If you're Robin Ventura, you probably shouldn't care about what kind of baseball player Alex Rios is at this point. He's going to get traded. But it's so f***ing stupid to degrade the guy's value right before he's going to get traded. You're not seeing the big picture here Greg. Losing one run during a game in a lost season is meaningless. Losing out on a better prospect who can help the team in the long run is meaningful. I know you hate Alex Rios, but that doesn't mean you have to hate what he's going to get traded for too. First of all, Sox fans are being ripped on Twitter for being mad at Ventura, so I'm not the only one who feels the way I do. Secondly, you and I disagree on Rios certainly being traded. I, for one, don't think anybody is going to a.) give up any real talent for Rios and b.) isn't going to take Rios without wanting significant dollars from the White Sox. I personally don't see the Sox giving a team a lot of money in the deal when the return will be very very fringe prospects. Now, the fact the Giants once acquired Jose Guillen from the Royals makes me aware some team MIGHT be willing to take the sometimes lazy Rios off the Sox hands. Guillen also loafed at times and the Royals were finally able to dump him. But I do believe that was in the LAST YEAR of Guillen's deal with KC. In other words, I think it's 40-60 that Rios actually even gets traded. I do believe he may remain a White Sox til that contract mercifully expires. I don't really understand how Robin gets ripped in this Rios scenario. Rios is the guy who dogged it, do we agree on that? Robin did the only thing he could do to maintain respect in the game of baseball. Rios dogs it in the opening game of the second half of the season with the score tied for godsakes. If it was 8-2 Atlanta at the time, MAYBE you overlook Rios' stealing of a paycheck, but not in a 2-2 game. Robin's reputation was ON THE LINE, folks. Robin did the right thing and he has a new fan in me. I want Robin to manage the team as long as he wants to, now.

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 10:48 PM) If we trade Rios, we have no chance to win the division. Sin City, cut it out please. El Rockin is the only Sox fan on this board who truly believes in each and every player and the team. El Rockin, yes, it's sincere. We're not fooled by your fake posts. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 10:57 PM) Pulling Peavy after 5 has to be a Hahn call. Robin probably would've sent him out there for two more innings. Guys, I happen to believe Coop runs the pitching staff, not Robin. Why would you guys think otherwise?? Coop is the pitching genius. Robin is not a pitcher. Why the wrath of Robin regarding pitch counts when it's got to be Coop? p.s. DeAza is starting to look like a decent hitter. Does he have a chance to be a decent to above average big leaguer?

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 10:14 PM) My biggest issue is that this has been going on for two months and it seemed like an odd time for Ventura to finally act like a manager. Probably would have been a better idea to do something about it right away two months ago instead of letting things escalate with it. I can buy that. I'm just glad Robin finally had enough of Rios' crap and pulled him. That's how some people have to be motivated and obviously it worked. Grand slam.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 10:08 PM) Greg doesn't think Rios ran fast enough around the bases! Sign of a great manager!!! It worked. Discipline works!!! Robin Ventura may be White Sox manager a long, long, long time! Congrats Robin and good hit, Rios. p.s. I'm a little surprised fathom you don't want to run Rios out of town for his loafing. I thought what he did and his response in the interview was horrible.
-
I wonder if Jerry has to approve how much money the Sox have to throw in to the team that acquires Rios/Peavy/Dunn. That's kind of a critical issue there.
-
It's pretty obvious Sox are going to wind up with the No. 1 or 2 draft pick by the time this carnage of a season is over. So many of you will be very very happy at that. I won't even pay attention til the draftee is ready for the bigs. Don't care about baseball draft. Yes I care about the result of last night's game, fathom. I care greatly. I didn't watch 5 innings hoping we'd lose.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 09:55 PM) God Morel sucks. I bet he's released soon.

QUOTE (mike89128 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 09:52 PM) Comcast on Yahoo sports reported Rios upset with Ventura for taking him out of last night's game. "Ventura should have spoken to me privately." I'm surprised there's not more outrage. The guy does make a decent salary but hey, he's not willing to give above average effort. Nice. His lack of hustle blatantly cost the Sox a 3-2 lead in the first game after the all-star break, which is kind of a symbolic night - new start to the second half, etc. At least I now have a least favorite White Sox player of all time. Alex Rios tops my list forever.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 09:50 PM) I wonder how many 27 year olds with horrible stuff and a career ERA of 5.10 get a lot of chances in today's baseball? I hope he got a college degree, because his stuff belongs back in the independent league. I don't know how he was so effective so long, bless him.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 08:41 PM) I am on board with those who say Rios isn't the only guy who loafs to first on a hard hit ball to the SS. 99.9% of the time that is an easy DP. Rio knew that and put his head down in disgust.....Can't remember how many times we've seen our captain PK do the exact same thing. I don't think RV handled correctly. Until the White Sox start to care (defensive errors and baserunning mistakes are mental as much as physical), the team will remain a laughingstock and one of the worst in baseball. At least this is a start. Get players in Chicago who respect the game or at the very least don't rob the owner by loafing and stealing a paycheck. This is a start at least.

QUOTE (lilnicky @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 08:30 PM) Was rios booed in his 1st at bat? I really hope so,tired of his attitude... I wish he'd been booed as well, but he's not worth expending the energy on. Hopefully we'll be rid of him soon.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 07:36 PM) You want Rios traded? Stop pulling him out of games to decrease his value. What Ventura did yesterday hurt the team. Rios hurt the team. Not Ventura. Every GM in baseball knows what they are getting in Rios. .... Can you say, selfish?
-
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 07:15 PM) How does the media get a chance to talk to him before Ventura does? Wtf is that? Ventura obviously doesn't want to talk to him. Like he said last night, "he knows." He knows why he got pulled from the game. Should be interesting to see what happens if Rios drops a fly ball or loafs again. Really puts pressure on the situation.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 03:43 AM) Can't argue that... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz You should hear Steve Physioc of the Royals? My god he is the worst. He uses a Wink Martendale voice and likes to preface sentences by saying, "Fans." He speaks right to the fans. Puke. I will give Denny Matthews credit. He is not a homer and last night he freaked out when the KC official scorer gave Alex Gordon a hit on a blatant error. Hawk, however, is a gem. I hope he announces until he can't see any more. He seems to have improved on fly ball depth since some early-season mis-reads. I love Hawk Harrelson. I'm a little surprised he didn't blast Rios hard after the loafing. At least Stoney mentioned it right as it happened. I'd think Hawk would have been furious at Rios disrespecting the game like that. LONG LIVE HAWK HARRELSON!

Alex Rios should be booed heavily today. Please trade him soon. I respect Ventura for pulling that high-paid clown from the game. Please get rid of Rios as soon as possible, Hahn. I seriously question the team that would want the guy, though. He's gonna be a tough sell to the fans of the contending team he goes to. My scout of Alex Rios: "Aging right fielder who basically plays for himself. Does not care about team. Might remain interested in earning his keep as long as team stays in the race." --- (Spoiler alert ... Don't read on if you hate reading bout Ozzie) Also liked this part of the story as an Ozzie fan.... In June of 2011, former manager Ozzie Guillen pulled him from the game in Colorado for the same reason as Ventura. "Rios don't run the bases; that's why I got him out of the game," Guillen said. "It's not the first time it happened. I don't like the way he runs the bases. And that's a message for everyone. If they don't (bleeping) run the bases, their reputation comes on me, and I have a greater reputation in this (bleeping) game to do it that way. "They don't run the bases, they're out of the game. I don't give a (bleep) if it's Paul Konerko or Adam Dunn or anyone. You don't run the bases, you're out of the game."

QUOTE (mataipaepae @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 06:11 PM) I don't get the hawk hate. I actually really enjoy him. I think he does a very good job with our games. I guess it helps that i am not from chicago or live around there? either way the documentary was very entertaining and i like listening to hawk and his stories. i also think he is very entertaining as an announcer. some of you just seem to damn crabby about every and anything possible. I love Hawk immensely. Can't find the documentary on youtube. Is it available? I wanna watch it tonite.
