  1. I was curious about this, so here's a list of all the MLB contracts Getz has signed players to during his tenure, organized generically into 'good' or 'bad' signings (according to me). The categories could probably be more targeted, ie the Maldonado tier, the Fedde tier, the Slater tier and the Tim Hill tier (Clev is in a tier of his own...I'm adding it). I think it's a complete list, let me know if I'm missing anyone. Not including minor league contract players who are potentially 'blocking' a younger, better player. Good Houser, Altavilla, Martin Perez, Fedde, DeJong, Tauchman, Tyler Alexander, Michael A Taylor, Flexen Bad Rojas, Bryse Wilson, Tim Hill, Brebbia, Maldonado, Pillar Ugly Clevinger. the guy just looks like s%*# regardless of his personality.
  2. I’d love it if they come up with a new bit. They only do one bit. I think we know why they’re calling it “America’s team”. I’m a Chicagoan thus I like homoerotic performances, it’s just like, come up with a new idea, bros
  3. Cubs got Sammy, Sox got Eloy. You take that 10 times out of 10.
  4. He’s bad at baseball for a couple years now and is still nuts.
  5. Manny just collected his 2,000th career hit. Farm Boy Sheets struck out right after on a pitch in the dirt. I debated putting this in the old Sox thread.
  6. I think this is only in your imagination. He isn’t lolligagging. I’m not sure he’s even had an opportunity to lolligag, ie beating out an infield hit. He does look really fuckin slow though getting started, like a freight train. he’s busting his ass at short, man. That’s something more to look at, I think. His offense has been pristine so far if you ask me. He’s super impressed me beyond my expectations, and I’m a homer.
  7. Giolito maybe? Think it was that season. I’ll look when I’m in front of a computer if I or anyone else even cares at that point lol. Burke is a reliever I think. I wanna see McDougal this year.
  8. Can’t recall who we were trading him for. Maybe Fedde. Toronto traded kikuchi for him. if it was even him. Hard hitting second baseman (who can’t play 2nd) who was old for his level but killing it. I could’ve imagined this whole scenario
  9. Loperfido…didn’t we want to trade for that guy when he was in Houston?
  10. sick walk. that was a strike, right? Colson the vet gets those calls.
  11. Nice defensive inning. Hard hit balls, a near Homer, you don’t love to see it.
  12. I think we’ve pretty much got all the hitters up from the minors who were likely to come up this season. Time to make some noise! Why can’t the Sox play .500ish ball the rest of the way? A forum poster can dream anyway.
  13. ezwin. Toronto is not that good, their streak of good luck against bad teams like NYY is about to come to an end.
  14. Does being in Madison count? The town is going wild for AV’s debut
  15. He’s a good writer, looking forward to it. I’m actually surprised he hasn’t already written about the WS team.
  16. I wish him good luck! Maybe the Brewers can knock the Cubs out of first place.
  17. Pujols was genuinely good. His final season was so memorable. Cabrera did get the nod I guess despite being bad. Pretty dumb if you ask me. If the fans wanted to see these guys, they'd vote for them. NBA fans vote for bad players they want to see play. That's just democracy, only you have unlimited votes. that's good, but I don't think he should pitch over somebody who actually deserves it. I agree with your point to give Smith a break, however, I bet he'd really like to get out there.
  18. Tend to agree, but too low volume of innings. He could blow up by inning 60 or whatever Shane is at. Smith is probably “the most deserving” simply because he started the season with the team. why is kershaw the first “legend pick”? What the f*** is that? Did Pujols or miggy get one of those? Which deserving player was passed over?
  19. It’s a wild thing to say, that’s like telling a beautiful woman her elbows are too pointy. What’s him being slow got to do with ‘hustle’? One probably might prefer 1.300 OPS to, I dunno, Duke Ellis. It’s also never gonna happen, it’s why I think he won’t last at SS (especially as he gets a bit older), but looks like a perfect third baseman with his arm strength. From Pipeline: Montgomery exhibits below-average speed out of the batter's box but is an average runner once he gets going, albeit not much of a threat to steal. He moves well at shortstop, making plays with a quick first step, good agility for his size, a fine internal clock and solid arm strength.
  20. Should’ve waited for him to get to rule 5 status…oh wait. Something tells me he’s not gonna bat .600 the rest of his career, but I’m certain those “he’s here too early” posts are not going to age well. Reminiscent of how Crochet couldn’t be a starter since he didn’t have the prerequisite “required innings”. Precedent is overrated.
  21. Yeah, we like historical preservation! Even better when the structure remains functional. I see your point though, I think Wrigley is 'just another park', but old, whereas Fenway is genuinely unique. I've never been, I think you're probably right that it sucks to see a game there compared to a new park with 'optimized' sight lines, but it's such an interesting baseball field with wacky dimensions largely because of the historical moment when it was built, when the builder might've had to conform to an asymmetrical site because urban land was limited. Didn't have some giant site in the countryside because you couldn't just drive out there in 1912. Wrigley is similar in that its a key fixture of its neighborhood whereas, I dunno, Dodger Stadium or SoxPark or even Yankee Stadium are 'placeless' and could exist anywhere. The sites are gigantic, most of which is devoted to parking spots, which function like buffer between the ballpark and the neighborhood. You might just walk past Wrigley or Fenway on your day-to-day and not even like baseball whereas the only reason you're walking past Dodger Stadium or SoxPark is to see a game. Of course, the new style is 'cookie-cutter nostalgic'. Every park is designed to evoke nostalgia and they all do it in the same fucking way because only one firm designs them and every team wants the same thing. The parks are "more intimate" but that just seems like marketing speak for "there aren't as many seats because we needed that space for box seats and restaurants, anything else besides watching baseball."
  22. Can’t watch the game tonight, but I understand Colson is debuting! Wish the guy good luck!! Go Sox!!!!
