How’s that pitching development team “blossoming” lately?

The truth is that Hahn drafted Crochet and Getz is reaping the benefits of the team being so bad and cheap that they would have never extended him anyways so Getz got to trade him for a haul.

He was probably one of the few catchers available that would have been worth a claim. Everyone is upset with Romo but there isn’t much out there. We just have to hope Quero is better this third time around.

I do not envy the position Getz is in. The Sox probably aren’t good enough to go deep into the postseason with their current rotation and catcher situation but Getz may feel the pressure to go for it and make some trades. And pitching is going to be massively expensive. I doubt he adds a catcher of note and just hopes Quero snaps out of his funk instead. Just don’t trade away any good prospects chasing the dream of an unlikely WS run and keep building for the future.

For a team that is so often wrong about injury recovery time and associated delays/setbacks, one would think they wouldn’t quickly readjust their initial timeline and just see what happens. Cuz like you both said, they are usually wrong. I mean, it’s almost like we saw the same player go through the same exact situation once this year already…

That acquisition doesn’t really fit his description of a “fat contract”. Liriano was in his last season with the Twins in 2012 and was an impending free agent. Liriano earned $5.5 million that season. Obviously they gave up too much talent in Eduardo Escobar, but the Sox only had to pick up $2.1 million of Liriano’s money for the remainder of the season. The Sox picked up $27 million remaining on Shields’ contract.

It worked well for James Shields. He still got paid the rest of his contract.

Depends if it’s Grade I, II, or III. My son came back from one in 2 weeks playing OL but it was a Grade I. He just taped it up. Definitely wouldn’t be fun as a catcher.
