  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 12:58 PM) I don't disagree, but I think you'd have a situation where Trestman gets rid of Cutler much earlier than he did and they start to distance themselves from him. You don't get the Kromer embarrassment. They point to last year where the same team was putting up franchise record offensive numbers when Cutler was out for 6-7 games. They'd point out that the defense was expected to be bad to average and it was the offense that was going to carry the day. And the worst player on offense was Cutler usually. The typical PR job of future hope that the Bears have sold fans for the last 50 years becomes much more believable. I think the whole storyline changes. They'd be a bad team looking to rebuild its defense and searching for a QB. Basically the position of like half the teams in the league. Who would have played QB? Because despite his "poise" or whatever he showed in his one start, Claussen sucks and isn't an NFL quarterback, it would have been as bad or worse with him playing a significant stretch. Unless when he benched a franchised Cutler he would have bought another year by selling "let me bring a QB in" scenario?
  2. Wow. We are on our best holiday behavior. Starlin Castro has flown under the radar here
  3. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 23, 2014 -> 12:05 PM) Good Lord...work is boring today. so is mine, but there's mixed excitement when people who have no idea how anything works thinks something is going to get done by years end when roughly 60% of the company is off.
  4. Have I listened to the Hawk too much to think some of it has to do with the ballpark? They had probably the most unique homefield advantage for years and years and were able to tailor teams to maximize that advantage, with the new park, some of that has gone away. Again, I'm totally 100% leaving the possiblity open that my above thought is just shell shock from several good Sox teams pissing their years away in the Dome.
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 19, 2014 -> 03:57 PM) Once the cap moves up, whatever we pay Jimmy in the summer will look like a steal My thoughts exactly, if Bulls can match what's out there and they don't it would be an extremely short-sighted move.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 01:43 PM) Interesting. I wonder who is in trouble? Can they send Nieto to minors now?
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 01:16 PM) Ricketts seems to be extremely strapped for cash now, I think he financed a lot of money to purchase the team. There's no doubt about it, there's articles out there about it, he bought at the hight of the economy at peak value.
  8. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 09:58 AM) getting Scherzer will be a major coup. but as Hahn said the other day, the team may not have the room to bring in a 20 + mil player, or something to that effect. a trade, maybe headed by Hawkins + prospects, can get the sox a 1 yr fix. someone like Leake. someone who can come in and be a plus at the #4 pitcher. I basically ignore every baseball exec when it comes to $$ talk at this time of year. Zero of them are going to say "hells yes we have tons o' cash we're just lookin' to burn up!!!"
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 04:19 PM) Yikes, a bit rich for my blood. Not much room for upside in that deal. For any FA, or in this case it would be keeping a good pitcher off the FA market, there will be an overpay, Sox have a little more flexiblity since they have good Q and Sale deals and Rodon under control
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 7, 2014 -> 09:20 AM) I'm obviously a huge fan of Punk but ya this is just a quick way for both parties to make some money. This is really something Dana hasn't done in the past but I guess with buyrates being down, he decided he wanted to bring in someone that will draw some eyes over. It's obviously for publicity, but it will be similar to Herschel Walker's fights in Strikeforce where he'll have to fight opponents a commission will approve, which will be interesting. it won't be like Lesnar where he'll get high end fights, they just won't be sanctioned. Ufc probably saw it as Bellator or WSF was going to do it if they didn't, so they may as well reap the publicity
  11. Punk signed with ufc, will be fighting in 2015, no weight decided yet, either 185 or 170
  12. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 02:46 PM) I don't specifically mean Boston. I agree re: their prospects. Any trade for Sale would have to be bananas and include multiple young MLB + players, not all prospects.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 10:33 AM) Rodon. But yes. Thanks!
  14. and hoping Rondon will be on next years!
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 10:05 AM) It always makes sense for the White Sox to put in an offer for a guy like this just in case the big offer from the Yankees doesn't appear. We set a salary floor. Exactly, which I'm fine with. At times I'd like the Sox to be a bit more agressive, but the I think the Scherzer deal is going to be nuts, so this one, I'm fine with them kicking the tires then moving on. Nice to hear they're exploring all options. Sox have payroll room, agents know it, they'll push the Sox out there to the press until the space is eaten up, only makes sense.
  16. Brandy by the Looking Glass, love that song and it's great for Karokee!
  17. Especially with FAs they'll constantly pop up since they shed a bunch of payroll and are well under where they usually are, I'm sure every agent of every FA is just throwing them in the rumor mill.
  18. If only espn suspended people for supporting j bug and house
  19. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 07:55 AM) as someone else said, i am very skeptical of this info. however, the sox will need to use someone |s| to get a trade done. a trade who can help the team get those missing pieces that the sox can't address thru FA's. but if they're willing to take on payroll, I imagine you can find a "salary dump" type situation with another team and don't have to give up Q. With common trend here, intrigued by Bruce, but not for Q, unless Sox are going to make a crazy move for a SP.
  20. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 08:05 AM) this morning, the Red Sox will make a formal offer to Lester. dang it. he was my #1 wish list signing. In a perfect world I guess, but I never really saw it as a fit for the Sox at this point, offense and bullpen needs money poured into it. Especially now with the teams involved, Lester is going to cash in big time.... unless you believe Cubs fans that he'll take the veterans minimum to play there and he'll bring cloned versions of prime Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays with him.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 07:42 PM) I can't decide if I would rather see Lester go to the Cardinals, or to see them drive the bidding up to a ridiculous price for the Cubs to swallow. He's a FA SP with a good track record, he's going to get a ridiculous amount of money from any team he signs with, he's not going back to Boston or the Cubs for a feel good story, he's going to end up in the place that offers him the most $$
  22. He's 30, I just feel with the numbers/years teams are going to throw at him team who signs him are looking at eating a lot of the back end of a contract, the question that teams will have to evaluate and make an assumption about is how much of it. Also, with Rondon and his potential upside, that's another LHP in the fray.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 09:22 AM) What flavor did they drop to start serving Ebola? Avian CashFlu
