Potential Crochet Trade discussion Thread
Yea, if his OPS reverts back to .850, his 3/$60 salary going forward (with the team holding the options on it) looks good and he'll have 3x the value at the deadline that he has now. The Phillies, for one, have a CF who can't hit.

Of course not, but the discussion was about Robert who, like Gimenez, is coming off of a terrible year, could be traded. At least Robert is who I was referring to. And I'd prefer to hold onto him anyway.

Sox will select Smith #1 in Rule 5 draft
He looks interesting. There’s nothing wrong with putting any of these ML-ready guys in the bullpen, without crowning them as a career reliever. It’s a good way to get the feet wet in the major leagues.

Well, the Guardians got back something for Gimenez and his .638 OPS; and he had a $100 mill contractual liability attached and has had really 1 good season on offense out of 5 (2 partial seasons). Now they didn't get top prospects or anything, but they got some pieces.

Rule 5 Draft
I know it's a lot easier to keep a underdeveloped pitcher on the roster than hitter. But looking at that preview list, Ryan Ward of the Dodgers has raked at all levels, and has spent 2 seasons in AAA. He shouldn't need development - at this point he can either play or he's a AAAA hitter. You can always send him back if he can't play. It's high risk, but also high reward. Or the guy from the Cubs - now he does need development but his D is elite so he can at least be used as a late inning OF. There will be an interesting pitcher available in round 2. And the Sox already have a lot of interesting pitchers who they can throw into the pen and who are as ready as they ever will be for MLB. On Edit I see they are picking Shane Smith. i hope he brings the Saints with him for some good jamming.

Rule 5 Draft
Unless there’s a pitcher who really stands well above the crowd, I hope they pick one of the hitters. A pitcher with good stuff will be available around two. And lord knows the White Sox need hitters.

Mike Tauchman to White Sox
The Sox have several players that they really need to audition in right field. I can’t see the point of signing marginal veterans like this.

Potential Crochet Trade discussion Thread
I can’t argue with your logic that the market should be there for crochet. But, I just think that teams just don’t want to trade their good prospects. From their perspective, the risk > reward. If a GM doesn’t make the deal, and crochet turns out to be good and the prospects do nothing, a GM will be yapped at a little bit but it will be forgotten If a GM makes the trade and crochet turns out to be bad and the prospects turn out to be good, a GM would be absolutely destroyed. And I think this is true, even though the odds favor crochet being good much more than they favor the prospects end up being good. And if you consider the teams that have successfully rebuilt, they have rebuilt through the draft and international signings. Not through dispersal trades. The White Sox were the exception to that, but they had a lot to trade: players who were still young and signed to long-term deals at below market prices. A competent GM would’ve never needed to rebuild in 2016.

Winter Meetings Catch-all
That’s a great trade for Cleveland. How do they keep doing this? and after seeing that Gimenez contract again, I take back everything I said about Adames’ deal.

I understand the hesitation as time depreciates value with these guys. Also, the GMs that he's dealing with are top-shelf; they probably want to rip him off like the Dodgers/Cardinals did. I wish the Angels or Mariners needed him. Even Philly - Dombrowski is a top-shelf GM obviously, but he will trade. They should at least be able to do a good volume trade with them that starts with Crawford + a couple of other prospects + a couple of prospects they get from the 3rd team who gets Bohm. Not ideal but acceptable imv.

This is feeling like it will end up like the last 2 big trades: Lots of teams say they want Crochet, but they won't offer much; Getz never gets a really good offer, and is stuck with taking the least sh$$$y offer right before Spring Training.

Jett had an OPS of .656 in 2024. I think he was hurt much of the year, with only 148 PAs. He also Ks a lot and is listed at 5-6, which I mentioned as that is oft mentioned about Madrigal and Fletcher. Overall, doesn't seem like the ideal headliner.

Who do the Mets have that we want? Yeah, I know Batty , but Sox should be able to get him for a middle reliever ( if we had one).

Dick Allen HOF
Well, he is still called by his White Sox name, “Dick.” he was Richie Allen with the Phillies. congrats to Dick Allen. Long time coming and much deserved..

For trying to acquire a couple of top 50 prospects, it seems so.

The attitudes were Eloy, Yoan and some veteran pitchers. Hard to understand how the farm director is supposed to change attitudes, especially when they were in the "system" for less than 2 years and 1 year respectively. Their attitudes probably explains why Hahn was able to acquire them in the first place. It reflects on the lack of due-diligence from the right-honorable former GM. I guess Crochet has a bit of an attitude, but it's just because he wanted to start, which he was right about. Getz built a bad 2024 roster, did meh on the Cease trade and was just obliterated in the Fedde/Kopech trade. I'd like to see him improve on those aspects of his game starting now in the winter meetings.

Orioles sign Gary Sanchez — 1-year, $8.5M
Sanchez and O'Neil hit homers. Discernable production. Both contracts are reasonable to me; but I consider contract duration as a factor. Lower cost Santander. Slater is hurt by recency (really bad last year) which also inflates O'Neil. I didn't realize we signed him - good move. Orioles should trade for pitching - they really don't have anymore top prospects to hug, so maybe they will be willing to deal in volume and find a receptive team.

Giants sign SS Willy Adames — 7-years, $182M
Yeah, it’s probably market value. The Giants, and especially the Mets, can sign whoever they want at the market price. But I still think it’s too high and not the best use of resources for most teams. I like that Orioles’ signing of Tyler O’Neill. They have him for 3 years on similar terms that the Sox have Benintendi for 3 years.

Giants sign SS Willy Adames — 7-years, $182M
OK. 5-10 ranked SS still not worth $25 million a year for 7 years. You can get your offense from other positions for a lot less cost. I like young players for that middle infield position due to the economics. Hopefully we can get one for crochet.

Giants sign SS Willy Adames — 7-years, $182M
That’s not really what he said. Regardless, that .248 batting average is complemented by a .322 OBP and a .766 OPS. The contract seems a tad steep.

I can see Caissie being involved...it's easier to trade non-homegrown prospects. But what I don't see (from his stats) is Caissie's eliteness. A lot of K in his game. His D doesn't project to be much. You're betting on that hit tool really delivering 30 HR+ per season. Could happen.

White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert
If Bohm is part of it, and the Sox should try to accommodate that for Philly, they need to bring in a 3rd team in. Those prospects will be part of the package and could affect what we want/need from Philly. This "flip" stuff never works. I don't think Philly is trying to give him away; heck, they still may be pushing for him to be their main piece, similar to Edman in the Fedde deal. Hopefully Getz performs a lot better this time. As for Robert, I don't see much downside in keeping him around for $20 million, unless the Sox would actually dispatch that $20 million for player they think can be more productive than Robert. Of course the Sox should spend $; need to spend $; Getz can finally make inspired trades and draft picks and it will still be extremely difficult to rebuild this operation from ground zero without spending.

Dodgers defenestrating Sox, Snell signs 5 years, $182 million
Isn’t this a good thing, as it tightens the supply of the elite available left-handed starters? And the size of the contract versus Crochet’s also should enhance his demand.
